As someone who appreciates the ENTIRE mm catalog, I can wholeheartedly say that this song is sublime. What could be above this? I’m sure Paul will think of something and surprise me.
Definitely sounds like Debut album era. I love Mutemath and have been a fan since Reset EP, I was really bummed when the band lost almost all original members but Im excited that Paul is carrying it forward.
Roy quit touring to be with family, so they got the first bassist in the band back, and Darren explained on a podcast why he left, while also telling a bunch of fun stories during his time in Earthsuit and beyond.
lilmanjs166 never heard DK’s podcast I’ll have to check it out. I’ll always see Roy as original bassist even though he didn’t write Reset EP. Roy was the original main touring bassist for mutemath up until play dead tour. Hope I can see mutemath one more time some day
Actually also not true! Johnathan toured with them during the Kraftwerk phase of the band, When they'd wear outfits that were inspired by them. Roy of course was the bassist from the Album release tour for the S/T through Vitals, and playing on all the full albums.
I was listening to some of the newer uploads (EN20180) and thinking "Man, I wish Paul would release more music and live performances. I want him to show us why he is the solo artist and bad mother that I suspect he is...." and, sure enough......Paul and the universe delivered. Thanks Paul.
This sounds a lot like your old stuff and play dead. I feel your style arching into a timeless representation of what you've been going for this whole time. Keep it up. (Simultaneously, I really do love your varied styles and think you could bring out some more of the cutting edge feeling of vitals along with the gritty goodness of odd soul.)
This some epitomizes/PMA. Makes me take heed to awesome lyrics and love finds us sooner or later. Even if you did not attend a real concert of theirs an exaggerated amount of positive emotions to everyone whom came across these comments or uploaded song! 🙌😊
Sirius Rainbow I’m aware of that, but this is Paul’s take on it. It may have been written a while ago, but my understanding was that he recorded this track recently. Which hopefully will continue MM’s journey beyond this EP. Either way, I love the sound of this song. Old or new.
Can anyone confirm that MuteMath is basically just Paul Meany now? I honestly wish he'd just start his own new project. I'd still support him 100%. But for me, as someone who has been a fan since 2005, MuteMath will forever be Paul, Darren and Roy. This is great, but it's not "MuteMath".
@@markmartinez3578, oh so I'm not allowed to have an opinion? I'm a freaking drummer. As such, I miss the complex rhythm section of Roy and Darren. That isn't here anymore.
Kyle Platz, please read my previous reply to Mark Martinez above. My comment wasn't about nomenclature. While you consider Paul's lyrics to be the heart of the band, ultimately that's your subjective opinion and we'll have to agree to disagree. His lyrics have always been excellent, but they've only been a piece of a whole. Let me ask you this, have you ever seen MuteMath live? Specifically in the pre-Vitals era? Because to me, THAT is the heart of Mutemath. The rhythms put down by Darren and Roy were legendary, and even rarer still, they were able to flawlessly execute them in a live setting. MuteMath is one of the only bands I've ever seen where they were actually significantly BETTER live. As a drummer myself, nobody (except for possibly John Bonham) has inspired my playing quite like Darren King has. And while Paul never ceases to amaze me with his endless multitude of talents, looping a simple drum fill on Ableton Live just isn't the same. Paul just doesn't have Darren's presence on the drums. Paul is a brilliant musician in his own right and my comment was by no means a criticism of him. Paul is great and I wish him all the success in the world! The problem is that he is but one man, and MuteMath needs a BAND. If MuteMath were to continue without Greg, Roy and Darren, I'd rather Paul had kept Todd around, kept Roy in the band (just not for touring) and really tried to find a worthwhile replacement for Darren. Instead, MuteMath has become a studio-only one-man-band. To me, that's a Paul Meany solo project, and there's nothing wrong with that! All that to say, I'm still hurting over the breakup of MuteMath. To be honest, I tend to blame Darren more than anyone because of how he handled his departure. But exactly where am I supposed to mourn for my favorite band?
SSPspaz well what do ya know.. I drum too. Dks playing is what got me into drumming as an outlet in the 1st place and yeah I agree with you it sucks that he bailed on the group the way he did, but from what we’ve seen and heard, Paul is talented enough to keep making great music behind the name. Not everything needs ultra intricate fills, which I wouldn’t be surprised if paul can do. Paul’s keeping it simple for now. This ep is mostly reworked old tracks. I’m looking forward to what sounds he’ll make on his own, under a name I respect.
@@reoskit4672 ppl only watchin' Nicki's ass and Kiki's cars so I got to complain about that commercial shit who takes all the light from the real artists this world is not fair .. anyway i love mutemath and fuck plastic boobs and 808 feelings
Paul, I'm in love with your beautiful voice and the tenderness in your compositions. ❤️ I feel so blessed that you release something new so close to my birthday. There could be no better present. Thank you so much!
@@MarkusJunnikkala same here. If you haven't found the demos from those early songs, they are awesome. Sad to see Darren and a few others leave over the years. Hopefully this songs tone will spread again to more new music.
Alex T I have indeed, great stuff. Yeah, life throws us around and things change. Happy to see everyone playing music though. They did have something magical together.
You know know know when its good when your 10 year old does his school project on mutemath! Your killing it right now per usual. Your reaching hearts and minds. Even young minds! Keep it pure and honest and you'll never die!!
A beautiful work of art, per usual. Well done!! I’m beyond happy that the music keeps being made, no matter the ups and downs. As long as it keeps being a source of passion for you, never stop.
Why there is almost no comments and likes? This is an awesome song! Maybe UA-cam sooner or later will recommend this to everyone, and Mutemath will be recognized (Or maybe someone says something about this band and then it gets what it deserves).
This is honestly a great track, I will be listening to it for a long time - but I still miss the dynamics that the old crew brought to the table and as good as this is - to me it doesn't carry the same oomph. but - Go Paul!!!
Really interesting sound guys 100% lovely. Amen sooner or later Love Is! His name is Jesus Christ! And I have a testimony of believing and receiving a message of "right believing" that changed my prayer life in a beautiful way Pastor Joseph Prince taught on Mark 11:23 in a new way and the Holy Spirit opened my eyes! Thank God for His Spirit, the Holy Spirit. I had pains in my legs as a side-effect of health issues I've lived with since I was 10years old mind you I'm now 25. So learning about "the power of right believing" really as a doer changed a lot, my leg pains I rebuked directly, which no Christians really realize is a gift of authority in the new testament. It took Joseph Prince (a pastor on tv) to break it down for me and I was focused on looking at the gifts given through Jesus Christ as the giver of life covering these areas of it all and being seated with Christ as a partaker. I know that was a lot big Gods doesn't scoff at big faith, I prayed and thanked God and the Lord was there and put it in my mind to lay hands on my back where my kidneys are and speak life over that situation, and I did in obedience (or really trust) and at my doc appointment I had literally that week my doc mentioned them and said "they look stronger!" which is exactly what I spoke in the authority of the believer that they would be strengthened and not overwork! strengthened kidneys have given me strengthen faith as I used the little God gave me, Father God, the Holy Spirit & Christ Jesus are real and deeply love you too, I'm not important, so if God did it through me He can use any kind of person from any walk of life or background, it just takes faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and saviour believing He died on the cross and rose again putting the right that sin and death had to the grave! We can choose Him and this free gift in Jesus every day :) He helps it just take that personal decision and relationship with God (though fellowship matters) The church is not there to save they are there to encourage Jesus is there every day to save the lost and broken-hearted, like me. Be Blessed Jesus Loves All of YOU SOUL(MIND AND HEART) BODY, & SPIRIT
Always fucking gold. Why does this have only 12k views? They inspired me so much in my college days to do music. And I managed to get a strong following online cause of the dedication I learnt from these guys !
People loving this have a royal class in themselves!
You're not wrong
I like to think Paul pulled this out of a time capsule from the self titled era.
Brilliant, just brilliant...
This song is absolutely perfect. Everything about it. Paul never disappoints, brilliant musician.
Just as I search for Mutemath
As someone who appreciates the ENTIRE mm catalog, I can wholeheartedly say that this song is sublime. What could be above this? I’m sure Paul will think of something and surprise me.
Hell of a good song
Reminiscent of Sting, while still being very Mutemathy. Beautiful job, Paul!!
My thoughts exactly!
Ya Sting totally. Also has a "Fly like an eagle" by Seal feel. Like these songs could be distant cousins or something..
Sounds like 90s Semisonic... a lot... but they also sounded like Sting
Great analogy! Very true
I miss Darren King.
Just ridiculous!. No one can do this better!. Really miss these brothers 💔🙏
Excellent tune! Sooner or later! Thanks a million Paul and Mutemath.
If I could live in a song, I choose this one! Simple, sweet and awesome

why did they leave?
🤷🏻♂️ bassist left, then drummer, quit right before play dead tour. Never gave any real reasons. Only original member was Paul.

I have no words to describe the feelings I had listening to this song. Paul Meany you rock. I follow your works since Earthsuit era.

Your voice is so unique
God, I love you guys. This song is amazing. Thank you.for this, Paul. Can't wait for more new material.

I really like these mid tempo songs Paul you are very gifted my brother
Paul bringing things back to square one MM sounds! Loving it!
I'm getting a Sting vibe from the progression and vocal attack on this one :)
Same feel i felt hearing peculiar people on the radio.. Great release right here. Haven't stopped listening. Both mutemath and this song.
Super stoked for this album!
Sade vibes... This is soul music right here. Is it my birthday? cause I feel like this song is a gift to me.
