  • Was horribly awful to hear the news from one of the best and most innovating artistic ones in a legendary genre that is Krautrock.

This is the first I've heard about Damo Suzuki's death. Damn. I love Can. Tago Mago, Ege Bamyasi, Future Days and Soon Over Babaluma are some of my favourite albums. Their discography after that was patchy at best but the first few were amazing in so many ways

I was privileged enough to know Damo a little bit having made a gig poster and album art for him in the early/mid 2000's. A true purveyor of the avant-garde, wide awake, who can now rest.
A very nice tribute, and yes it was horrible finding out, which I happened to on instagram(!)

@@TheStrongBoyz19 Thank you. We stayed in touch but I hadn't heard from him for a few months prior to his passing, so it was a shock to find out like that. Around the time of the artwork he played the Thekla in Bristol with a local band called Fuzz Against Junk, and arranged for me to sleep over at Ian, the guitarist's flat that he (Damo) would also be staying. The three of us sat up for the rest of the evening talking and smoking.
Damo was such an easy person to get along with. I learned from him that Tago Mago is a place in Tenerife and the girl on the right on the cover of Country Life by Roxy Music is Michael Caroli's sister! He ended up getting comfy and crashing on the sofa so let me have the spare bed which had been set up in the same room. Next morning, Ian drove us to the train station where Damo departed for his next tour destination, giving us both a hug. That was the only time I met/hung out with him in person. A unique artist and lovely man who is very sadly missed.

@@TheStrongBoyz19 Thank you. I posted a longer reply about the time I met and hung out with Damo (even sleeping in the same room!) but for no reason whatsoever, YT deleted it...
I HAVE to stop commenting on here, it's now a coin flip whether or not my comments even remain visible.

He did sound like an awesome guy. I understand why you want to stop replying, but I see your comments and they're visible.

@@TheStrongBoyz19 Including the longer one about the meeting in Bristol etc? It's completely gone from where I'm looking!

What kind of cancer did Damo Suzuki have at the time of his death? Sorry for his loss and his friends and family.
