Can't believe someone threw that wagon out. Thank you picking that up! When we get the chance, my wife and I still play out each of those games you mentioned. As a kid, we used to make Battleship grids on paper. You placed a box in from of you so your opponent couldn't see. I've never seen a Navy version of the entrenching tool. If not too much trouble I would like to see it somewhat original. Great show! Thank you. 😀👍
Nice restoration of the z-pliers and the beginning of the e-tool. And yes, the old card table that turned into a fort, tent, homework table, and the "little table" for all the holiday meals for the kids. Very fond memories. 😀👍🏻🇺🇲
Picked up a T handle entrenching tool at an estate sale recently. I have a couple of the folding blades, one WWII with the canvas cover, but that T handle intrigued me. It was stuck in a dusty corner of a shed. I saw the US on the blade, and quickly paid them the $8 they were asked for it. Looking forward to your restoration, and will follow your tips to get mine in shape. 👍
Wayne- Awesome score! I too am fascinated with the T-Handles and also the early European versions! You have to have some deep pockets to get into collecting all different types of entrenching tools. 😂👍
Those are rare! They came home with Doughboys and were used hard. Many were carried in Model Ts before there were good roads. They were essential tools back then!
Hey John, Tin can mafia 😂😂 really made me chuckle… I remember those mop buckets when at school.. was fascinated then.. I remember the caretaker let me use it once .. I was over the moon 🤣👍 love the restos 🙌all the best Rob
Another great video, ScoutCrafter! 👍🏻 I too have many fond memories of playing games and eating with family around card tables growing up. The card table was always the “kids table” and you didn’t get promoted to the dining room table until you were out of high school. 😅 The cleanup on the z-bend pliers was nice and the e-tool is looking good so far. I have an old one that belonged to my maternal grandfather that someone painted red that needs to be restored. Thanks for giving me encouragement to tackle my first tool project!
Wow, if that poor man's flea market doesn't inspire one to walk, I don't know what would. Love those finished z-pliers and that shovel is coming out great.
We call them Crimped wire wheel and knotted cup brush😊 Loved the Z bend pliers for throttle cable linkages. Very unique. Looks great. I enjoy seeing the older items from poor man’s flea market Brings back memories.
lol I remember when the trucks came through where I lived as a kid on Staten Island to spray DDT. (1960's) OMG we kids loved it! They had guns spraying up high, and guns spraying low. We kids of course ran out to the sidewalk and jumped in the spray as they slowly drove by spraying. Then i guess we went back to playing Cowboys & Indians, Probably using a surplus entrenching tool to build our 'fort' and making 'dirt bombs' to throw at our opponent's
John, what the heck does lead taste like?? Around here they kept us kids from eating lead. Except the skeeter truck, it used to go down our street and it was a dead end so we got sprayed twice and we would run or ride our bikes behind it and I still remember that smell, man we were dumb. I cant believe they still do that. My eyes lit up when I saw that wagon, glad you grabbed it. Glad you didnt get a shank to the back from the can man.
Hi John, are you sure you didn’t live in my house? Boy, did you hit the nostalgia spot. I’m so with you on things bringing back great memories. We played Monopoly so often, we didn’t have to move our pieces square by square. We just moved to the right spot. Everyone kept a keen eye to keep everyone honest. Our games lasted a very long time. The card table just waited for us. Every game you mentioned was in our closet. The can mafia, so funny but so true. Funny you explained the mop bucket, but I’ll bet lots of young folks had no clue. Very cool trenching tool. I have one that’s Vietnam era. It’s got the shovel and pick. Mine is all original and I’ve spruced it up with some oil. I have the original leather cover. There was no paint on the handle. So here is a show idea. I know that sometimes you get cutters with buggered up blades. How about find a pair that resembles the crimper, and make your own out of it. Just a thought. Loved that tool. Best Regards, John P.S. just got my renewal for my ticket. I’m good until 2034. I’ll eventually get my station set up.
Great score with the wagon! Lots of fond memories with card tables, too! Ours had a padded, vinyl like top...greenish color. My mom had bridge club and the ladies would drink wine and cackle so loud it was impossible to sleep! Thanks for sharing your stories with us!
Great show. Love the PMFM! When I was a kid and the bug man came through the neighborhood, we would follow him on our bikes riding in that cloud of toxic chemicals, just waiting for the effects to kick in any day now 😬. Can't wait to see the finished entrenching tool.
Great score on the shovel. I had several that I refurbished and handed out for snow shovel work in the great white north. The wagon is a nice addition to your picker tools array.
We bought 3 of the tower fans for our bedrooms.,they are great. You scored with the wagon. The shovel will be red with a natural finish handle is my guess. Great show. Oh we’re going to move, come on by so I can load you up!
Great show today John! Thank You for starting the shovel today. Nice finds on your poor man flea market. I remember the bucket and they are pretty cool. Thank You for sharing.
Glad you saved the wagon. I would have grabbed the skis. With wood legs (2x4) the skis make a nifty bench. I like to find snow boards to make benches. Entrenching tool old look please. Great video. Thank you.
The Tin Can Mafia! haha. I think behind them I saw a group of the Patina Boyz coming after you too. I'd love to see you make that shovel look brand new if possible.
If I recall lead has slightly sweet taste. As a kid when I didn't knew better I sometimes used my teeths for re-crimping loose fishline sinkers. I believe that the taste comes from lead acetate aka "lead sugar" though perhaps someone who knows chemistry can confirm it.
You’re still the best channel on UA-cam Scout. Nice work on the pliers, they look brand new. The entrenching tool is a tough choice , but it would look great with just clear Shellac on it now. Cheers mate, Stu🇦🇺
Thanks John, a great episode, I always wanted one of the Radio Flyer carts, they are a classic, amazing that you can just pick them up like that ! We always had a games table, cards were a big part of my childhood and particularly the winter and Christmas period ! My grandparents had a round pedestal table with a polished top to allow the card to glide and it had bakelite glass holder that swung out from under the rim, I thought this was so cool as a kid ! The mop bucket is a great practical find, and I like the Z-bend pliers, I was going to say go to town on the Entrenching tool but as its a 1944 model perhaps stick to the olive drab !
What the heck... as a kid growing up, nobody ever warned us about the pesticide as they drove by late at night, but then again, I never got covid. I guess I was inoculated from covid as a kid... good show
Hey John, I remember having a card table when I was a kid. We always had a puzzle being worked on one. They were very handy and I forgot all about them until you brought them up in this video. Love your walks and the poor mans flea market. You should do more of them. Later
You almost got "agent oranged"!!!!! Stay safe, my brother! That folding table was a great trip down memory lane. Can't believe they just threw that wagon away!
Great show I love those z pliers. I think the entrenching tool should be painted the original color. It's just amazing what people throw away, why not a pawn store
Trenching tool, OD GREEN, has my vote, thanks for the poor man’s flea market tour. The card tables, when holidays came and families got together, everyone used to bring a card table and chairs, that was the kids table at meal time, and right after dinner, we organized card playing tournaments, pair as traveling partners and the losing team had to rotate to another table, fun way to get a chance converse with everyone at least a little anyway, fun times. Thanks for the video, enjoyed watching..
So glad you took that wagon. I know you will find a kiddo that will enjoy it. That card table was in really good condition! I would have brought that home as well ! Can’t wait to see the entrenching tool finished!
I remember shopping at SS Lind as a kid. They had a great selection of Matchbox cars and Testors paints. Glad you were able to rescue that wash bucket.
I'm not sure if I would all that comfortable on those walks of yours!! I went to a car boot today and bought one of those wide cold chisels after all your promo😂
I love that Radio Flyer! I have one of the old wooden ones. When I was a kid a long time ago we used to follow the mosquito truck around the neighborhood like idiots. Back then we didn't know any better. Very interesting video!
When I was a kid my uncles kept an entrenching tool in my grandfathers barn. I think us kids played with it more than any adult ever worked with it. I was fascinated by folded up and locked in different positions.
Lots of great stuff. Love both of those tools you cleaned up and look forward to seeing that entrenching tool finished and done upright. As always, thanks for sharing with us and have a great day.
There were two U.S. Navy destroyers, the USS Wood. I think you have one of their e-tools. Nice historical find and another beautiful restoration. I get so much pleasure from your videos. I have a Red Army e-tool you can have.
Hey !John, promenade de nuit et des trucs intéressants dans les poubelles. La table de jeux est superbe, les deux tours aération aussi. Le chariot pas mal. Le nettoyage de la pelle génial. ❤
Great episode love the pliers,I have to hunt for a pair. I can relate to the card table portion, my mom belonged to a bridge club that met every Monday night. Glad you grabbed the wagon and can't wait to see the entreching tool finished. Thanks again and see you Friday
awwww come on! we used to ride our bikes behind the mosquito sprayer truck 'cause it smelled so good. 3 speed, green metal flake paint, white banana seat and a sissy bar. pedal like heck and cut thru back yards to pick it up on the next street. ahhh, the 1970s. never hurt me. i think. what, me worry?
We are in New Orleans and the mosquitoe truck comemby about once a week in the summer down here. Also, I think your lead paint checking method explains alot about you! Lol
That city fog truck and those warnings late night like that reminded me of Omega Man. Don’t want to get caught outdoors then -Yikes! Loved the cleanup of the Z pliers and excited to see which direction you go with the E-Tool.
The trenching shovel is a neat find because I have always seen them painted green not Navy battleship gray. The same goes for the WWII Jeeps. When people restore them, they never paint them gray, always green. This was, of course, because the Navy ones always had duty on waterfronts exposed to salt water. In other words, they all rotted away and anything usable has been sold back to us as Toyotas. My vote is to paint it Navy gray.
We still have a card table here. Very handy even if you don't play cards. The wooden one you found looks like good quality, and in good condition. I have several inherited vintage Dover funnels, still in use after who knows how many decades. The entrenching shovel I have is also dated 1944, but was manufactured by Ames. Thanks.
👍🏼 our family still use our card tables. Have to give credit to our parents for the importance of taking care of the little things, that are just as important as the Big. Thanks SC good video.
Can't believe that wagon was out there.. great score! Also glad you didn't have a aluminum can.... 😳 you may have to get and start packing a dirty harry saw like magdad just found..lol
1944 on the E tool. If you are not going to use it, shellac the whole thing. Glad you got the wagon. That wouldn't have made the garbage truck. That card table would have made it home as well. Refresh the wood and replace that insert with some nice leather upholstry material. The way things are where you live you could probably get enough off of someones leather coach they are throwing out. Still they have some relly nice looking upholstery leather out there to buy. Well back to mowing the lawn. Water break is over.
Great Scavenger! That was a great episode. That wagon should be the new"Show Cart" Fix a seat so you can rest during your three hour jaunts, coffee and donut, iced tea in the shade...and way easier than totin' a 5gal. pail.
I was always told to do an accurate test to determine if there's LEAD or not in paint is to gather a few chips and eat them, chewing them thoroughly. Works best if you cleanse your pallet before with a shot of paint stripper of course 😉 👌 🤪
Oh man we used to play loads of different card games when I was a kid, most I don't even remember the names of now and those I do remember I can't remember how to play them.😂 The mop bucket with the roller wringer reminded me of the old electric spin dryers that would dance their way across the room when you used them.
We didn't have a card table, I think it was more of an American thing, but we did have card games. There was checkers/draughts, snakes and ladders, monopoly, battleship, chess and others. One of the iritating issues was if you lost pieces of a game, then the whole set could be useless.🍃
That was a pretty nice card table. Did you take that home? We have four different card tables of all different construction. We have a solid oak one, a super light old one with a top made of a durable cardboard, and several in between.
You should take that wagon with you on every walk.. I had an army shovel like that and like most everything, it disappeared.. My x wife probably sold it while I was at work.... Good video S.C.. See you Friday...
Every time you talk about the poor man's flee market I want a sandwich. There is a store around here that used to sell what they called the poor man's sandwich. It had what ever sliced meat and cheese the deli did not sell and it was always good and always a surprise.
Good stuff again! You need to come to Toronto and check out all the junk being thrown out. Our basement was flooded with 16" of sewer backup water. We have a back flow valve, but it did not stop the back up. Same thing happened in 2013. So, too busy to check out any of the junk, there is lots of it.
I got caught out walking the dogs when the spray truck came by two nights ago. When we were kids it was probably DDT. It’s probably pretty benign today
I have to tell you they were moving pretty fast and I had to run as not to be gassed. Luckily I turned down a block that was one way and made it to safety. 🫣😂👍
My uncle had one of those World War II entrenching tools, he was a World War II Navy veteran and he purchased it right after World War II. Unfortunately, he kept it in his trunk of his Buick, and the one time he parked it outside instead of in the garage, the car was stolen, along with the entrenching tool!
My favorite- www.amazon.com/Brownell-Oxpho-Blue-Professional-Grade-Cold/dp/B00SOUKFLW/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_pp?crid=1SWQOA5WAJLBO&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.hSC4XxXb-mlMldM1dSlJuEmZKQ67e2-wNknbPg_ctXRfbo1uK40NbZuNr4-nJAJdgEbYbdo-Fk0bFu90wbCgPtObHAHnQw64SGB9wXlKhBC-dXVnp4OFbXb6kQupB-ntcSRSqrDrwbcFQmYxK4S-3GbGTBo9vp6ZjWdLFvdIMCstF5UO4R_iWPb2QXh4rNZ7IuOmSxA4i5XODYNxqUKItw.YVa-C2m7CtLXWiT1YnPNgMRRHXjHqQ8V7Fn93Y8XXd4&dib_tag=se&keywords=cold+blue&qid=1721887869&sprefix=cold+blue%2Caps%2C82&sr=8-1
Wow I'm number three that's new...was there mosquito problem up there sounds a bit odd in the city... The razor blade method really works well it's my first step when redoing an old hand saw...great video...🖖
Seeing those flashing lights moving down the street with the announcement sounding made it seem like something out of a 1984 type novel... Seems the y found another way of making us stay indoors now that covid fears faded. Wonder what's next and why they wanna be able to keep us indoors
Twenty years ago you could pick one up at the shows for $10-$15 however now they are $25-$35 at the shows! When I saw this for $10 I snagged it “for the show”. 😉
Do you remember when all the old timers would be sitting outside in the summer nights talking . while all the kids were playing man hunt etc. What happened there is no one out anymore . I miss that . I grow up in Staten Island and every body knew every one . How the world has changed .
Curious to know why USN would have had these and painted that way. Perhaps USN beach demo teams like in an early scene of Saving Private Ryan or for emergency use by SeaBees mounted onto construction equipment. (Obviously they would have used more conventional shovels on projects) Repaint as was to USN specs.
ScoutCrafter was moments away from getting Shanked by the Tin Can Mafia.
Scout, I laugh my ass off every time you show that photo of the doggie with the look of doubt on its mug.
My favorite too...
I went around tasting various painted items, and I couldn't tell which ones contain lead 😵
I like your lead paint test! 😁
The best part is I am puppysitting a mini dachshund right now!
Got to be safe! 😂
Nice restoration of the z-pliers and the beginning of the e-tool. And yes, the old card table that turned into a fort, tent, homework table, and the "little table" for all the holiday meals for the kids. Very fond memories. 😀👍🏻🇺🇲

Those are rare! They came home with Doughboys and were used hard. Many were carried in Model Ts before there were good roads. They were essential tools back then!
Everyone is a Bodyman Lol!! You're killin me Dawg!!☻
😂😂😂
Great show, ScoutCrafter. I don't know why you didn't taste the mop bucket too. I could have been hazardous you know.
:-)
Hey John, Tin can mafia 😂😂 really made me chuckle… I remember those mop buckets when at school.. was fascinated then.. I remember the caretaker let me use it once .. I was over the moon 🤣👍 love the restos 🙌all the best Rob
Thanks Rob! 😃👍
That free pile wagon was a nice score!

Ryan- Everyone loves a good entrenching tool! 😃👍
I knew that wagon was going to follow you! They still spray for mosquitos, that surprised me. I like tools to look like new. Thanks

That E-tool takes me back to 1966. A lot of our 782 gear was WW2 and Korea vintage. (As was the C-RATIONS)". Oh the joys of Pendleton, Semper Fi
Great video! I would love to see you do another Vintage motor restoration. I love watching your old motor videos!

I've seen Adirondack chairs made of old fiberglass skis. Nice as an outdoor chair you don't have to worry about rotting away.
The Tin Can Mafia! haha. I think behind them I saw a group of the Patina Boyz coming after you too. I'd love to see you make that shovel look brand new if possible.

We used to do the taste test on aluminum parts to see if we rinsed all of the H2SO4 off after anodizing!
Sulfuric Acid! 😳😂👍
Make the entreanching tool look old in my opinion.
Nice score on the radio flyer wagon!😊
The card table was the kids table at holiday parties. Would you believe I’m still at the kids table at 57 years old? What does a guy gotta do?🤪😜😉😄🤷♂️
😂😂😂👍
Glad to see that took the wagon looks new and I'd make the intreanch tool look like it was new back in 44
Tin can mafia is a real thing! Those Chinese ladies are no joke!😝
We had a squeegee bucket like that when I was a child. I grew up about 40 miles south of Parkersburg, WV. Great memories Scoutcrafter!

Can't believe someone was throwing away a Radio Flyer. Thise things, even in poor condition, are over £100 here in the UK.
Hi John. Love the wagon. Had one as a kid. Not that fancy though 😅. Make that shovel like new and original. 👍👍❤...
Nice work on the pliers and can’t wait to see the shovel all done up and great picking on that wagon 👍
Philip I had no idea you were having drought conditions. Here in NYC they encourage watering because they charge a small fortune for water!!! 🫣😂👍
@@ScoutCrafter Drinking water. No drought this year, in fact many of my plants were drowned.
That wagon should be your new companion on your walks. Just lengthen handle so it doesn’t hit the back of your ankles.
😂😂😂
Great show John loved the shovel really cool they are quite expensive down here
In New Zealand crazy money god bless take care 🇺🇸🦅🗽🇳🇿🪖🦔🐝47
Oh man we used to play loads of different card games when I was a kid, most I don't even remember the names of now and those I do remember I can't remember how to play them.😂
The mop bucket with the roller wringer reminded me of the old electric spin dryers that would dance their way across the room when you used them.
I think it would look good fixed the way they would receive it in the military.
Yes! We had a couple Heavy flooding rains over the past few years and lots of basements got flooded the picking was great for two weeks! 😂👍
Stain the handle and leave the metal bear with a clear top coat to protect it. Looks great as it is after day one.
I have an entrenching tool that one of my brothers in law gave me from the Vietnam era. I need to do a restoration on it.
My uncle had one of those World War II entrenching tools, he was a World War II Navy veteran and he purchased it right after World War II. Unfortunately, he kept it in his trunk of his Buick, and the one time he parked it outside instead of in the garage, the car was stolen, along with the entrenching tool!
That mop wringer bucket is when you got what you paid for. What blueing do you use? I have some tools i would like to blue. Thanks man!

Great Stuff!
Wow I'm number three that's new...was there mosquito problem up there sounds a bit odd in the city...
The razor blade method really works well it's my first step when redoing an old hand saw...great video...🖖
Believe it or not years ago we had a huge encephalitis breakout here just blocks from my house! A few deaths and it was quite serious.
I think you should just put a few coats of shellac on the shovel. Show of its bones.
Does anyone know of a source for replacement measuring tape blades? Of course they don't sell them anymore as they want you to buy a new tape measure.
Well I don't know about gold being in them there hills but, it can certainly be found in your neighbourhood. 😍😍
Seeing those flashing lights moving down the street with the announcement sounding made it seem like something out of a 1984 type novel... Seems the
y found another way of making us stay indoors now that covid fears faded. Wonder what's next and why they wanna be able to keep us indoors
Gunstock and shine it up. Lol
I, too, have an old entrenching tool! It says US, Ames, 1945. I assume Ames was the manufacturer. Can't believe someone asking over $100 for one!
Twenty years ago you could pick one up at the shows for $10-$15 however now they are $25-$35 at the shows! When I saw this for $10 I snagged it “for the show”. 😉
We played 31 with 15 cents.
I would like to see it in an original condition.
Do you remember when all the old timers would be sitting outside in the summer nights talking . while all the kids were playing man hunt etc.
What happened there is no one out anymore . I miss that . I grow up in Staten Island and every body knew every one . How the world has changed .
It’s true! I remember as a teenager walking all over the place and seeing lots of other kids doing the same. It’s a whole different world here now.
Zombies walking midnight 😁
