  • This video is three segments that aired on WDIV and WXYZ on Sunday evening, March 29, 1987. WDIV was and is the NBC affiliate in Detroit, Michigan; WXYZ was and is the ABC affiliate in Detroit, Michigan.
There are alternating clips between Sports Final Edition on WDIV and Sunday Sports Update on WXYZ. These clips are the coverage of WrestleMania III at the Pontiac Silverdome. Jay Berry is the WXYZ sports reporter, but we're drawing blanks on who is on Sports Final Edition.
UA-cam copyright policy forced us to edit out clips of the Hogan-Andre main event, thus the jumpy cuts. Sorry about that.

I watch that Steamboat and Savage match at least once a year, it was so good. That, and the match between Rey Mysterio Jr. and Eddie Guerrero from Halloween Havoc 1997.

Excellent matches. We prefer WM3, but that's just because that's our era.

Ironic because 19 years later, WWE would use Big Time as the theme for Wrestlemania 22.

That's right!! Always curious that they used it for WM22, since it was so far removed from when Big Time was released. Thanks for watching our channel!

@@TelevisionDetroit McMahon was notoriously loof about popular culture, not watching many movies or television, or knowing what was hot on the Top 40. In the 90s, he made Jim Neidhart into a masked wrestler named Who, just so he and another commentator could do Abbot and Costello's "Whose on First" bit.

He was still a big name in Detroit wrestling circles at the time. No one remembers now (except us, of course)!! Thank you for leaving a reply!

@@TelevisionDetroit i first heard of larry chene when i started become more conscious of wrestling history. i think it was espn started running a program golden age of wrestling and their were airing what i think were old episodes of fred kohler wrestling, chene was featured on it. there's a color match of larry from the amphitehater on youtube, it's pretty cool to see that era in color

Ah yes. A local news program using a licensed 80s song for WrestleMania well before WWE officially uses it 19 years later. Certainly a massive coinicidence.

Wow alot of good guys lost on that card.

We think that was because they were looking to build opponents for Hulk Hogan until the rematch with Andre. We appreciate you leaving us feedback and watching our channel.
