Mikaela is an amazing skier but so are her competitors. The other day I watched a recent UA-cam video of Lindsey Vonn skiing downhill at night in Austria. She still has the courage and technique. Congrats to all the women athletes in the world, I admire their dedication and skills.
Night skiing can actually be an advantage; you can see the shadows of the terrain easier than in white out conditions during the day. For Lyndsey, it was having the courage to run the Streif at all. And she skied it really well too.
She's a legend! Flawless moves with no visible aggressiveness. Almost a second faster! But I'm really happy to see Petra. Wish their competition tandem will continue

edges so sharp they will cut your fingers if you dare and thats a polished edge for speed. that edge lasts for one run down the race course and then touched up by a master ski tuner for #2 run or maybe a second pair of skis for the 2nd run.. most non competitive skiers cannot even turn those skis on a normal ski run as they will hook left or right so hard you end up face planting.😲
Paula Moltzan, you looked like you were in the back seat a bit as you went over knolls onto steeps. This caused you to skid/brake/slow in these areas. You want to keep your center of gravity roughly perpendicular to the slope. This means that in these situations you will need to move your upper body a bit farther forward in order to avoid being in the back seat. You probably need to specifically practice going over knolls onto steeper terrain. You do not want to get into the back seat. You may need to course inspect better. I hope this helps. David White
Paula, If you are leaning backward (perhaps because you are temporarily a bit frightened of the steeper terrain), that means you cannot really pressure your front edges (cannot carve well or at all). This means you can only skid turn (very slow and out of control). It also means you can get thrown around easily because you are already back on your butt. If you hit an unexpected mogul type bump, it will send you flying when you are are already compressed to your butt being virtually on the snow. There is no where to compress to further. You don't want your butt that far down (close to the snow with your knees already bent) if you can help it. Moving your upper body a bit farther forward will help you not to compress you legs too much (bend them so much that your butt is almost or is on the snow). It will help you to be more well balanced and in control.

Yup. Also, can't compete well at Biathlon, Ski Jumping, or Moguls. I guess she just has to settle for being the GOAT overall Alpine skier. But, good on her. 😋
the hell she can't. she hardly trains it and gets top-five finishes, racking up vital points to win the overall. She has a world title in Super G. If she focused on downhill I believe 100% she would be dominating it. She is without a doubt the most complete skier of all time.
She has won three downhills, and there are specialists in the discipline that haven't done that well. There are also lots of downhill specialists who don't even try the slalom and giant slalom.
Currently Shiffrin is ranked 9th in the world in Downhill racing. I wonder how your comment flies with the brave women that are 10th our lower in the rankings.
She’s much better racing downhill (currently 9th in the DH standings) than the current "GOAT" Ingemar Stenmark, who never really competed in the downhill. He wasn’t comfortable going very fast. I remember watching him race in a downhill once (he needed the points, I believe) and he was practically standing up for much of the race. That's much different than Mikaela, who things it's really fun:)

I've always said a run in deep fresh snow will change anyone forever. Please do yourself a favor and find one quickly, and do it natural style: skin up and earn your turn. As to arrogance, check yours at the door buddy; you don't know every one that skis or their 'impact'. As to narcissism, do you understand the word and how does it apply to the ski industry?

Mikaela is so much quicker in transitioning from one edge to the other. She gives up so much less ground in her line during her transitions.
