Ha ha, I see people are giving grief about the title.Yeah, this is San Bruno in San Mateo County. I was class of '82' El Camino High, this mall was one of our stomping grounds and yes, South city, San Bruno and San Mateo were all very territorial, so the SF title is out of place at least for us old-timers. Well, I hadn't been there in years and I guess not many people have still what a shame there goes with another memory but I'm sure the folks that lost Tanforan Park race track said the thing before me.
Hi Friend! The shops are located in San Bruno, which is a suburb of San Francisco. This area falls south of main metropolitan SF and sits right alongside the San Francisco Airport. As you mentioned, this area is broken into a different county, with that being said, San Mateo county spans most of the San Francisco Peninsula.
@@StephByStepTravel Yeah, SFO is located in a different county as is this mall. Has nothing whatsoever to do with SF, the city. Very misleading title trying to capitalize on anti-SF right wing propaganda. Dick move.
@@TohaBgood2 I didn't realize that adding SF for SEO, especially as this area is located within the SF region is "anti-SF right wing propaganda". I actually LOVE the city of San Francisco and visit on a regular basis, just last weekend FYI. You are entitled your opinion but it's unnecessary for you to make such abrasive remarks on the basis of nothing. If you've seen any of my other content, there is no political agenda. My goal is to share the environment and places in the SF Bay Area.
I agree, I grew up hanging out at malls and doing my back to school shopping at places like this. Weird to envision a childhood/teen years without a local mall.
I saw your video a couple of days ago and so yesterday I went. Yes it has slowed down, but it's not closing for at least another year. As it is, the campus will not take up all the mall area. Lots will remain. I visited and made purchases at Gyros (appetizer combo, w. great pita and some baclava ❤. Then I stopped at Stone Cold Creamery where they made me a fabulous strawberry supreme thing with nuts, caramel, chunky crunchies, real whole strawberries ❤❤. Next stopped at DimSum on upper level and got 5 different yummy dumplings / buns ❤❤❤. Finally dropped in at Hallmark to start Xmas shopping ❤❤❤❤. Didn't have time for a movie, but next time I will get another icecream goody to munch. BTW Santa will be there for photos 2024
Hi @wendysinclair-smith984! I'm glad you had a chance to visit Tanforan Mall. I agree, though it has slowed down, there is definitely still some life left in this shopping mall and its many offerings such as Coldstone, the movie theater, Barnes & Noble, and more. Also, thanks for sharing and confirming that Santa will be visiting here for the holidays - hopefully this will help to drive more foot traffic.
Where is there a Hallmark in this mall? Last time there was a Hallmark I used to work there and it was located on the 1st level on East side of the mall. I’m curios to know if Hallmark is still there.
I used to work at that Sears about 4-6 years ago. Although I don't know the day of the week this was filmed or the time of day, it is frightening to see the decline of foot traffic since I worked at that mall.
Do NOT call us SF - the SF insanity does not go on around here. Also, I was in JC Penney's yesterday, 12/28 and it broke my heart to see new merchandise being set out as if all is well. So sad.
It’s an extraordinarily unattractive mall. The remodel was a disaster. No one I know ever enjoyed going there. It’s downright creepy walking around there now. And the mall really is as deserted as it appears in this video.
Hi @XXtheJUMPoffXX this mall will be transformed into an office space for a biotech company. You can read more about it in this article by the SFGate: www.sfgate.com/local/article/The-Shops-at-Tanforan-is-closing-for-good-16915374.php
I just Google searched Bayfair mall in San Leandro and it says its permanently closed. Darn. Sad to see another mall go and I wish I had a chance to visit before it officially closed.
This is the location (when it was a racetrack) that Americans of Japanese descent were forced to live in horse stalls until they were shipped off the prison camps throughout the West. Each family was allowed one footlocker to fit everything they will take with them. Everything else was left behind. Many Germans and Italians face similar fates on the Eastern side of the country. I know in Hawaii and I assume in the mainland Japanese was outlawed to be spoken. Many elders had little or none English skills so raising their kids had to be done with no language unless they knew English.
So when I was forced into homelessness, I learned about the evil world of trafficking because I, too became trafficked against my will. There are always at least 2-4 people following you wherever you go, and some of these people linger in places someone who was just made homeless would go (the mall, the library, because its a place we can go to try to feel normal). At 2:11 in this video, there is video of one of these traffickers. They all fit the same profile, suffice it to say. They wish us to know that there are bad people present to steal from us our peace, because when people are not in peace they do stupid things. They do this to golden children, people who can make an actual difference in the world. They do this to people who have rejected them. They do this to people they wish to bed. It is false imprisonment because they are literally EVERYWHERE you go. I tried telling the assistant district attorney of Alameda County two years ago, as they spearhead the trafficking division, and he laughed at me. He made everything I said into a joke, and acted as if trafficking people was a normal thing and like I should just suck it up. Anyhow, simply pointing out that the person sitting there is one of those who participates in false imprisonment of others by being everywhere trafficked people would go to rob us of our sense of freedom. Thanks for reading. If you want to argue trafficking is not a thing or be a butt and make fun of me, whatever....I'm used to it. Just know that you are showing to the whole UA-cam community that you are ignorant about what other people go through.
Yeah sad and depressing. I used to play in the field there before it was even built. Then seen it built and grew up with it through grade school and high school. Used to go and pick up chicks there and xmas was always jammed packed.
When was your last time shop at the mall ? Last 4 or 5 years maybe. What is a chance of getting your car's glasses broken ? 5/10 😂. Sorry I shop online and forget about those mall
For anyone that wants busy mall nostalgia go to Stonestown, which is actually in San Francisco. I was there yesterday and it was a madhouse!
It was an outside mall when I was a kid

Exactly.San Francisco and San Bruno are two totally different cities and counties.

I am so sad to see another mall go like this. 😢😢😢 it is heartbreaking!
It's still got plenty of business open.
I agree, I grew up hanging out at malls and doing my back to school shopping at places like this. Weird to envision a childhood/teen years without a local mall.
Last I check San Bruno is San Mateo county. Growing up even in the early 90’s this mall was always dead.

Reminds me of northgate mall as well, on its last legs. 😢
This mall is down the block from me. It's been here for basically forever.
The mall in Tracy is one of the loneliest malls I’ve ever been to.
Those escalators by the food court are still broken… ☹️
This mall was remodelled less than twenty years ago.
Thanks for sharing this insight @marychan4625

1980’s this place was great, but today looks so sad😢
i think you forgot a s in sf in your title to make it ssf or South San Fransisco
What are they planning to do with this mall?

Looks like bayfair mall in its final days

It's in san Bruno..
I remember seeing Tanforan race track burn down.

The Amazon and Biotech Industry will be taking over this shopping mall?
@divinediva6320 I'm not sure which corporation it is. Their website just states that it will be a biotech company.
Don't worry. Big pharma will give us a pill that will replicate the sensation of browsing the corridors of a real physical shopping mall.
