    I so love how you work out the bugs and then tell us how to do it, so we won't have to go through all that! :) Can't wait to try this. Also appreciate how you give very clear directions on stuff (like hooking the elastics together). That kind of thing can put me in a state of befuddlement!

    I saw an ad for potty paper that comes with no tube. I imagine soon, all the makers may go this way. That will not bother me in the least because I just cannot get past the idea of crafting with anything that used to reside near the toity (toidy?). As a primary grade teacher, I did do art projects with the kiddos that suggested using TP tubes, but we always used paper towel tubes or else we just made new tubes from construction paper or cereal boxes. I, for one, will not shed a tear at the demise of TheTube. However, your little bookies are darling, so I will just use something else for the cover. Your double pony tail elastic closure is genius :-) Gloria

    I love this idea! I'm gonna make one for sure! Also, if you have a hand crank die cutter/embosser, you can put your TP rolls in 5 or so at a time and sandwiching them in between the plates, run them back and forth a few times and even leave them in the machine at the point of the cranking that its tightest, and leave them overnight to flatten them out. I do that with mine when I make mini albums :)

      Shannon, I bought a Sizzix at Michael's & used a 40% off coupon! The gal at the register tried telling me that we couldn't use a coupon for the Sizzix, but the manager checked to see if that was true. It wasn't. I did & am thrilled with mine! I know that you & Jayson have used a pasta machine to flatten newspaper tubes, but I won't use mine for that or the tp tubes, lol. Gabriel, my grandson, & I enjoy making homemade noodles on it. He's six, so I don't get a whole lot of help, but we have fun while he does help, lol!

    Hi Shannon, Love this idea. I gave this a try, I put the pretty paper on with mod podge, when they were dry I fold them and they cracked on the folded part. What am I doing wrong. Thanks

    • @ShannonGreen
      @ShannonGreen  10 років тому +1

      leeder1g Hmmm. It could be the paper you used. Make sure you score and fold the toilet paper tube before you glue the decorative paper on it. I used tissue papers on mine so it wasn't much of an issue but if you use regular paper or scrapbook paper, go ahead and score and fold it first and then glue it to the toilet paper tube...lining up the folds. It could be that you're folding against the grain of the paper which will definitely make the paper crack when you fold it. If you're not sure which direction the grain runs, it's best to score it before you fold it. Try that, hopefully it will solve your problem.

    • @leeder1g
      @leeder1g 10 років тому +1

      Thanks Shannon, that was helpful. I did use thicker paper and I had them lying flat out to dry then folded them after.

      kathleen strode Joann Fabrics sells a product that quilters use to run their thread through to keep quilting thread from tangling. It comes in a plastic cube about the size of pool cue chalk.... might work. Not expensive, lasts forever.

    I've been storing odd bits of fibers and ribbon on flattened toilet tissue rolls (flattened with a wooden brayer), but here's something else I can use them for! (along with an idea for gelli papers when I break them out of their boxes). I've made tiny notebooks with one-sided printed junk mail sheets, decorative tissue boxes and clasp rings (have a photo of some on my blog). Have you made anything with tissue boxes, Shannon?

    Enjoyed your tutorial. Now this little book would really be handy for your purse. I'm going to make some. When I moved this summer my daughter was helping me pack my craft room. She opened a large oval tin and found it full of toilet paper tubes. She couldn't believe it and asked what I was going to do with them. Of course I said "I don't know yet." Nancy Vastine Ha! My birthday is February 2 and for 20 years my mother got me a heart shaped birthday cake! Maybe that's why I'm not crazy about hearts either :)

      MR.VICTOR CRAFTER Some US brands are starting to do that now so I'm sure it won't be long before most of ours don't have tubes either. That will be a sad day for crafters!
