Dan Welden is my cousin and I just now found this video on YT. I knew about Solarplate, but this was the first time I've actually seen the process carried out. Please suggest to him Rachmaninoff's 2nd Symphony as background music for his next demonstration. :-)
Really really interesting and a fabulously clear step by step process video - I'm now trying to track down all the necessary components here in the UK! Thank you so much - as a printmaker, having recently experimented with cyanotype, this seems like a great next natural step
Absolutely stunning and I love your studio with classical music playing in the background, no stress. I thought your light box was a great idea and it seems so do lots of other people, perhaps a short video just to show us how you have done this please. Great vid thank you.
Thanks Bill, inspiring and helpful. I have recently taken to print making and I can’t wait to try this. I’m doubt it will be as easy as you make it look but hey, learning is part of the fun. Brilliant!
Its an interesting cross of photography and etching. Ecofriendly is a big plus. One shortcoming I see is that the depth seems fixed, as you need to expose through the full polymer layer or it comes off with the rubbing. So the final print will be a bit more 'flat'.
Dan, Thank you. This video confirms what I learned about making solar plate prints. It is nice to see the little variations in technique. I have been doing these prints for about 5 years. Have you got another manufacturer to make these for you yet? Any workshops planned for northern CA in the next year, post-covid?
Hello, nice work!! I was wondering about your light box. Where can I buy one, if not are there plans to build one somewhere? Living in Canada we have a short summer and it would come in very handy. Thank you
Hi, I'm going to make my DIY uv box. Would you give some data about the one you use? - does it need uv source of specific parameters (uv-c?), or just any uv bulb, - how many watts?
The transparency is a toner based ink (not ink jet) right? What bulb is used in the light box? I thought you couldn't expose the plate to light or is it just sensitive to UV light?

Dan you are very good,I’m impress with your instructions clearly on what to do. You make it very easy.how long does the plate last after one used.

A great technique and studio to work in. I can see why you are so sucessful with your workshops all over the world. Thank you.
also love the magnetic board .. revolutionary!
A really good instructional video. Thanks Dan.
Nicely done ... I would have liked to have seen the inside of his UV box.
Beautiful!!!
You obviously love your job. Thanks for posting. Phil.

Amazing detail for an easy process.

Do you have a pdf file perhaps on the lightbox and how to build my own one
Hi Dan, I would love some technical information on the light box you are using.
Very helpful video, thanks. Did you make your own exposure box?
Estupendo
Hi! What is that screen you use to drain the paper?
Only Dan keeps his precious negs in dusty paper bags. Oh well, have fun, eh!
Were i found solarplate?
Hi, This is very helpful, but does not show hardening the exposed plate.
What is that magnetic table...?
How about if you don't have a light box? How long in the sun??

Sorry I made a Mistake Solar plate.
