@@Fausto_4841 you're insinuating that systematic racism, which can actually be perpetuated by non-racists, is the same as something like legislative racism which was- for the most part- abolished by the civil rights movement. The racism that the system perpetuates is a consequence of poor reparations for minority groups in the 60s-70s when most racist legislation was abolished or rewritten to still do the same things yet sound nicer. I mean, you can literally read about a lot of this in Eduardo Bonilla-Silva's book, "Racism without Racists" it accurately depicts the inequalities of minority Americans vs white Americans even with all the leaps and bounds we've made denouncing racism within the U.S. There are many other books too, that accurately explain the systemic issues American minority groups experience daily vs the average white American. I am 16 year old biracial girl (my Mom is African) who recently took an AP Language class where CRT was being taught. I was also the only person of color in this class. I remember feeling confused about how to feel after reading books like Native son and A Raisin in the Sun. Was I supposed to feel upset? or angry about how things were in the 1930's? Was I supposed to somehow feel a connection to these fictional black characters just because of my pigmentation? The only thing I felt was ostracized from my peers who I hoped wouldn't be extra nice to me out of white guilt at lunch or in the hallways. I hoped my classmates wouldn't feel afraid to ask questions about the dynamic of race portrayed in these books because there was a half black girl in the room who might "get offended". Each one of my classmates who have been nothing but kind and wonderful to me I felt were being told that their "whiteness" is something that was an "oppressive force." I also hated the idea that because I was a poc I would need to work extra hard to work against the "evil forces of systemic racism." Long story short, I ended up getting a lot of academic awards at the end of the school year because I worked for it and I grew up in a household where you work hard and play hard. My faith in God also keeps me focused on a greater goal. Yet because of CRT, I now fear that people will think I got all these awards because the school committee simply wanted to give them to a female person of color in order to seem anti-racist. It's ridiculous.
If you're half African CRT will be difficult to empathize with because you're closer to African culture and history than black american history and culture. "Raisin in the Sun" is based on Red lining that affected the African American communities in the 50s and 60s and the racism that black women to this day still face in the U.S. with the medical community. There's still issues that stem from past issues that Americans need to be aware of. Also if they are teaching CRT they should be teaching about white indentured servitude and white abolitionists as well. CRT theory is suppose to teach about how the U.S. is built on racism and how the system is systematically racist not that all white people are racist because some of them weren't even considered white until the 20s.

If we could do that, that would be great. If you think that black kids are looking for excuses more than any other kids are, then you're being racist.
There are several problems with teaching CRT. The first (like many things now) is that most people don't understand what it is or have a clear definition of CRT. So how do you effectively teach something when there is not a clear definition of what it is. For example, the lady in the interview is being introduced as someone who teaches it while holding a book that says Critical Race Theory on it, yet she says it is not being taught in the schools, but then goes on to say she uses it as a lens for her students to look through. Another example, I talked to my kids teacher about "white privilege" being taught and asked them to define it. The teacher referred me to the department head rather than answer the question. Then when I talked to the department head I was told there is no common definition among the department for this term. So we are supposed to trust that they are being neutral in their teaching of these sensitive topics when they can't even define the words they are using? The second part is that our current teachers and educational system struggle to teach basic academic skills such as reading, writing and math, yet we are supposed to trust this same system to teach such a complex topic as CRT? Not to mention the irony of the people who support CRT in the school also believe our schools are systemically racist. So supporters of CRT want the racist system to teach our kids about racism? The third reason CRT is problematic is that it takes a very high level of thinking (and maturity) to parse through the nuances of racism. Most kids, heck, many adults don't even have this level of thinking or maturity (on either side of the debate). This is probably why CRT has traditionally been an advance level college law course. So the notion that we will just implement parts of it into public schools with K-12 kids to make things better is hubris on anyone who believes that is a good idea. Now with that said, there are very useful elements of CRT, but for the reasons why I stated (and others) I don't think it is a good idea to implement in most public schools. Perhaps some advance high school classes, but should be addressed on a case by case situation, not through district or state pressures.

"Critical race theory (CRT) is a cross-disciplinary intellectual and social movement of civil-rights scholars and activists who seek to examine the intersection of race, society, and law in the United States and to challenge mainstream American liberal approaches to racial justice." CRT has been taught in law schools since the 1960s. It uses race and history as important factors to view laws. It would be useful for instance in viewing the Japanese Internment Camps in the 1940s. Even though it was clearly racist and unconstitutional, these camps were deemed 'legal' based on the precedent that slavery was once legal. So when people who were affected by the camps tried to seek justice, they were denied by the government. In fact years later, these camps became precedent for American born children to be separated from their parents and placed in cages...also very unconstitutional, they are American citizens by birth after all. Anyway, these complex ideas aren't being taught to kids. No one is teaching kids about the Constitution, Bill of Rights, Civics, etc. They aren't being exposed to case studies of the American eugenics programs, Tuskegee Experiment, sanitoriums, etc. So everyone can chill.

I had the interesting experience of being a British kid in a German school a few years after WW2 and the Holocaust. We were not taught the full horror because we would have been too young, but told some smaller incidents we could relate to. However we were repeatedly told that we as children we were not guilty and not to blame. We only had to try and build a better Germany. When one of our teachers described being one of a group of Hitler Youth who had thrown stones at a Jewish boy and killed him, and the teacher was completely overcome with distress and remorse I felt, as the only non German there, that it was my duty to remind him that he had just been a kid at the time and he too was not to blame. He thanked me for my effort but he didn't buy it. "I will burn in hell for what I did that day" he said. Yes teach the true history but in ways the kids can relate to. Remember they are just kids and they never owned a slave or lynched anybody. Remind them constantly that they are not in any way guilty. Get them on your side and don't make them defensive.
You are a kind human, and have an intelligent story to tell. Don’t waste it on these leftist psychos. They yell hate at anything different than their own rhetoric.
"This", as the kids say. Thank you for sharing this. What an incredible experience. It has often struck me that responses to CRT tend to have underlying (western Christian) religious dimensions, driven by knee-jerk reactions to the idea that they themselves are guilty of the "original sins" committed by their ancestors did, i.e. ironically whilst some might accept the notion religiously, when confronted with it in more concrete, "present" terms they react and recoil, resistant to the notion that they are somehow "irredeemable," even if they have in fact directly or indirectly benefitted from the racism alive in this country and around the world. This, of course, is an absurd notion. They are not "guilty", and even if they are (e.g. the teacher in your story), they are not "irredeemable". The question is, what do we do with such knowledge once it is received? We should reflect on it, be mindful of it in our actions, and work to make a better world for all who live in it. Yes, that includes examining our laws; yes, that includes examining how wealth is generated and stored; and yes, that includes taking good, hard looks at ourselves.
Problem as I see it is children aren't being taught the Rockwellian version of history. To many that represents an uncomfortable threat to an established norm...

Last lynching of a black man was in 1981, in 1921 we literally burned and bombed a thriving town in Tulsa. Most (actually probably all) of these State laws are not simply just saying "Don't teach CRT". They are specific about the curriculum, such as "deconstructing privilege" or demonizing "whiteness". Critical Race Theory is the examination of the construct of the law and how its application is applied resulting in certain outcomes for certain people. For instance, the G.I. Bill was what built the American middle class. It was meant for ALL G.I.'s. However, it was then handed over to be administered by local jurisdictions throughout the country, who then began excluding Black G I s from the benefits of the bill resulting in very little growth for a Black middle class. That is history and that is fact. And I guarantee you it does not make anyone ashamed of their color or hate anyone because of their color Black or White unless you already hated in that fashion already; it is part of the American story and it is to be told.

I'm not afraid to say america is racist, but not systematically. the majority of racial animosity in america is directed at whites, not comes from them. don't pretend the knock-out game that got popular wasn't racially motivated. black on white crime is swept under the rug all the time. people of all races self segregate naturally, even among whites. when italian immigrants come to the US they want to be with other people who came from italy, same with koreans, hondurans, ect. even black people do. when whites move into the neighborhood it's gentrification, when they leave it's white flight. that preference is ok, and doesn't mean anyone has to hate any other groups.
america is not systematically racist, and it's definitely not white supremist. how does a white supremist country get a black president and a large number of minority politicians? why does it jail cops who kill minorities? if you want to get conspiratorial and say these aren't sincere arrests and they just did it to make people happy, why would it even need to do that?
I'm not saying we're horrible or the worst place to live, but I think it's a bit naive to just believe and state that this country doesn't have a racist problem embedded within its culture and corporate society.
I think you are young have been protected from racism by your proximity to whiteness. I felt the same way until I was 24. @@garrettblaster Kids should definitely learn more life skills in schools, I agree. Things like how to do you taxes, how to process information, how to not question your biases...oh and while we're at it, let's also teach them how to not become someone who thinks "there's no systemic racism in the country, black people are just lazy." If we could do that, that would be great. If you think that black kids are looking for excuses more than any other kids are, then you're being racist.
@Jim Fisher You know what actually points out all the things you mentioned? CRT.
You should never be afraid to tell the truth, whether it's good or bad..

Im honestly looking for a definition for race theory and all I hear from the “professors” who teach it is: “it’s a set of beliefs and ideas”
"Critical race theory (CRT) is a cross-disciplinary intellectual and social movement of civil-rights scholars and activists who seek to examine the intersection of race, society, and law in the United States and to challenge mainstream American liberal approaches to racial justice."
CRT has been taught in law schools since the 1960s.
CRT is an honest attempt to nip bigotry and racism in the bud......I had a Jewish teacher in social studies when I was a kid...7th grade...he lost ALL of his family and extended family in the holocaust..He taught, choked up, cried, gained control again, etc. It was unexpected and uncomfortable. At the end of the class he looked at us and said that we must never ever let something like this happen again. I still remember his name, face, tears. It was a good thing. I have never forgotten.

Wow, groundbreaking response - so who would you like interviewed for a high school teaching topic, a Marine General, Politician, Real Estate Broker.
Last lynching of a black man was in 1981, in 1921 we literally burned and bombed a thriving town in Tulsa. Even though slavery was abolished, our government/politicans at the time put legislature forth that severly targeted black and brown people in nearly every aspect of life. and Some of these people that were alive in those times are still around today. at the very least direct decedents of them. Ya'll think that their children just forgot about that hatred? no, and we need to teach our kids

Its in colleges too. I went back to school after 15 years and was appalled when I read that i was "oppressed" as a black woman. And people were priviliged. It said that in the text book in multiple places. Im like wait are they serious. Every race was categorized. Im not oppressed and i hated reading that in my text book. But the other students were all for it. I just couldnt understand how that made it in to the curriculum. Sounded like the hunger games ideology to separate people into "districts" or something like that. I dont know i guess im getting to old for this new world way of thinking.

That's what has been going on for the last 3-4 centuries. Most (actually probably all) of these State laws are not simply just saying "Don't teach CRT". They are specific about the curriculum, such as "deconstructing privilege" or demonizing "whiteness".
The fact that the left has turned this into a supposed vocabulary lesson on what CRT actually is, is just a smokescreen to hide how ok they are with indoctrinating kids to this radical, divisive agenda.
When you have school boards requiring that teachers teach “both sides” of the holocaust, it’s clear you fascists want to teach racism.
@@alansands256 "I am quite intentionally redefining what 'critical race theory' means in the public mind, expanding it as a catchall for the new racial orthodoxy. People won't read Derrick Bell, but when their kid is labled an 'oppressor' in first grade, that's now CRT." and "The goal is to have the public read something crazy in the newspaper and immediately think ‘critical race theory.'" Those are quotes from Chris Rufo, the most prominent anti-CRT activist in the country.
@@patrickhewitt9024 So what's your point in posting these quotes? Are you trying to portray Rufo as deceptive?
Either way, if teacher's are telling white kids they are "oppressors" then THAT is the problem, not whether its called "CRT".
@@alansands256 I'm not trying to portray him as anything, he is by his own admission a propagandist. If teachers were telling white kids they are oppressors someone would've recorded it on their cellphone by now and Fox News would be playing it on a 24hr loop. That is not what is happening, CRT is only officially taught in law schools, various ideas borrowed from it (such as if the legal system is still being used to subordinate and oppress marginalized groups) are possibly being discussed in schools at the discretion of the staff and particular teachers and they should be, the purpose of school is to learn about the country and society you're growing up in, but to broadly define it as labeling white people oppressors is incorrect.
So she wants to teach CRT with the results of intervention. Hmmm.. what is intervention going to look like?
The tolerance for all the garbage we're putting up with right now is directly tied to our general lack of autonomy we're afraid of having our lives canceled by an employer or the government so we dont speak loudly against the insanity that's becoming common place now.

Most regular parents that havent spent more time being activists than just good citizens and family members dont generally know how to organize and make changes. They need someone to teach them. We can be vocal about what we see, but finding solutions arent as easy as recognizing problems.
The hoopla was created precisely to do the opposite of what you hope for. Certain leaders are focusing their constituents on non-issues, using kids as bait. It’s not even so that kids will or will not learn historical truths. It’s really about drumming up passion for votes by being seen as a champion for something or another. Informed people question stuff that doesn’t sound right.
