- Idaho's appeal is drawing out-of-staters here in droves - particularly Californians. Because there are so many of them here, we wanted to find out if they are welcome in Idaho. As we found out, it depends who you talk to.

I’ve been an Idahoan all my life, and it’s really annoying to get all these rich snobs overpopulating once beautiful and peaceful cities like Coeur d Alene, or Rigby, these are still small towns, and they’re constantly crowded and overpopulated with a bunch of rich douchebags who try to pay their way through everything. I want the old Idaho back

I have lived in Northwest Arkansas all my life, about 20 years ago a nice older couple asked me for directions During our conversation they told me that they had just moved to the area from California. They were so happy to be away from all of the crowded cities and over regulation, in the same breath they said “but there really need to be some laws about the old junk cars and equipment that were on a nearby farm”
I looked at them and politely stated that that if they wanted that to happen then they should probably move back to California. I pointed out that we were in a rural area and some of that “junk” might actually be operable and used daily (my farm truck runs just fine but it looks pretty bad because of my cattle)
If you are from California and moving to another state you need to leave California ideas in California

Lot of people end up living here because her parents are military, like me. However, I'm getting the fuck out of here as soon as my house sells. I live in one of the most liberal fucking counties in California.

I am born and raised here. I’m welcome to growth, but the thought of people turning Idaho into California scares me to my core. When I come back from college, I want to be able to live in Boise for a cheap enough amount.

After living in Portland, OR for 4 years and watching CA people move in I can already tell you that the good things that people in Idaho are used to will get eroded. Here's what you'll start to notice. 1. traffic (with highly aggressive drivers) 2. the places you used to go now have way to many people so you stop going to them. 3. housing prices will go up exponentially. 4. you will start to look elsewhere to escape them because they tend to move in and impose their ways. If you don't believe me ask anyone from Oregon or even Washington. It's real.

Portland is an blue island surrounded by red. Drive outside of Portland and most Oregon people are gun loving conservatives. You might not want to assume you know my background until you ask.

That kind of sounds like what happened to Florida back in the 90s when New Yorkers started moving there in droves. Now south Florida is pretty much the 6th borough of New York.

I live in Idaho and what I am seeing is just upsetting. I always try to be polite to new comers but at this point i'm done with that. The invasion of the Californians have raised our property taxes, and the price of living so much that many of our neighbors are leaving because they cant afford to keep living here. They are literally driving us out.

Happening here in Oregon since the eighties when they started moving to Bend Oregon. Now they are everywhere. They often buy up properties by offering more than the asking price for the home. Many properties have been bought from people who live out of state, bought site unseen.
Soon enough they will want you to "hand in your fully semi-automatic military style assault rifles". Good luck!

After moving here from Khaliforniastan a year and a half ago and getting a job driving a school bus, I passed by some coworkers in the parking lot one day who were standing behind a car with the trunk open discussing the 30-40 guns in that same trunk. Others were walking by as well. Nobody cared. I was in heaven...
I am in a trade that relies on a good economy and people transplanting. The problem with most of the Californians who move here is they hated where they came from bad enough to move but as soon as they get to idaho they try to change it to be like the shit hole they came from. We don't want micro regulation on everything.

My family has a lake cabin on an island in northern Idaho... almost every other lot besides ours, which my family have owned since the 60s has been infested by californians. They have started an HOA, tried to get us to paint our place, complained about us cutting down trees on our property and many other things. Would LOVE for them to go back.

I'm all for people moving to another place to seek a better life but NOT ok with them getting here and then wanting ID to change. ID has already become a little CA because of the BIG CITY mentality and DemoBrat leaning politics. The most vocal complaint, even more than the impossibly sardine-like, multi-family housing tracts going up everywhere, is the FACT that MOST moving here don't like the Idaho way of life, and have CHANGED our beautiful area into another BIG CITY operation, lowering our childrens' chances of affording their own homes here in THEIR home state and instilling more restrictions and fees on Idahoans. BIG CITY exodus money leads to HIGHER PRICES for housing and too many are bringing BIG CITY ideals, changing the very FEEL of our ONCE VERY close-knit community. Angry, rude people have taken over the roads and we constantly hear out-of-staters saying "We do things this way or that way in CA", as if how Idaho does things needs to change to what THEY LEFT behind.

Change your laws now while you have the majority to ban new laws that the Californians will inevitably bring with them/us. Puppet Master, coming from CA, I’m happy to help Idaho protect itself knowing some of the things that have deteriorated CA. But, I’m only one man, busy with a family who isn’t a politician. I’ll help any way I can though.

Mel L, if you’re listening, no, I’m not part of the problem. I was born and raised here and have been involved as much as I possibly can in local politics and follow a multitude of court cases. Unfortunately I’m only one man, and all of my efforts are fruitless. I agree with your sentiment though, I used to, and still do encourage people to stay and fight instead of just running to a different state just to escape the politics. However, that is not why I am moving. I’ve been fighting this liberal disease literally all my life on the internet, in local council meetings and open forums and recently, even on the street. Believe me, I’m not running from anything. But, I have a family now, 3 young kids, and I need to focus on their upbringing now so that they will grow up in an environment that helps them to grow up with the same values I’ve been fighting for my whole life, and not in the toxic environment we are in now.
So, while I agree with you in a general way, maybe tone down the anger a bit. You don’t know everyone’s situation.
Just a matter of time before amnesia sets in as to why they left California.

Boise doesn’t want to become California.
It wasn’t really noticeable at first, it was nice that Boise was finally relevant but now it’s scary. The price of homes significantly have increased, there is more traffic/accidents. Californians should know Boise is not used to change this fast. We will be welcoming, we say thank you and please and hello, make eye contact and take time for conversation. We don’t really honk at people, that’s considered rude, or drive through stop signs like they don’t exist. I think we just want to make sure Boise is still Boise, like just embrace our ways.

Am I an Idahoan or am a Californian? I was born at St Al’s in 59, but when I was 4 my dad went back into the Navy after my sister was born. When my older brother finished the first grade we packed up and moved to San Diego. As I went through school in various cities in CA from San Diego to the Bay Area and then back down to the LA area, when my dad was transferred to a ship home-ported in Long Beach. I started and finished high school in the same school. About 10 days later I was on my way to boot camp at MCRD in San Diego.
I spent 6 years in the Marine Corps then 6 ½ years in the Navy, in 82 I was medically discharged from the Navy and came home to Idaho for good. So am I or ain’t I an Idahoan.

Its sad really...we have a bad californian problem in Nashville. There are more californians than native Nasvhillians. They raise house prices, they change the culture, they change the politics, they change the values. We live here because of our conservative values and they come here, hold protests and scream words of hate toward our "intolerance" and we are supposed to accept it. I've seen sooo many natives get displaced from their homes in Nashville and move 30 miles out just to maintain. We visited Boise recently with hopes of moving and saw this amazing landscape and almost emotional beauty just to then run into the hoards of Californians downtown talking bad about the locals. I feel your pain Idaho. :(

I once was told that dairy farmers from California were relocating to Idaho; this was in 1997 when I was living in Jackpot, Nevada it’s a small casino town about 50 miles from Twin Falls, Idaho.

Not true Caleb, allot of Californians have been coming to Texas for the last 10 years , Austin TX has been flooded by these people, they have driven up home prices and property taxes, in 2008 you could of bought a 1500 Sqft home for about 150K in 2018 about 400K. The city is has gone from red to blue, and its become one of most bureaucratic leftest cities in the US, with the crappiest highway infrastructure in the state one of our city council members is registered to the communist party, and has said he is the party of resistance, No joke, the sane people have moved out to the suburbs.

I was born in Spokane but grew up in California. The state is a miserable failure and the majority of voters seem to vote for the kind of crap that is making it miserable. I am one who has considered relocating to Idaho. But, there is a problem with the areas which are nice, scenic and hospitable, they draw in all of the left-leaning whacko liberals that were drawn to beautiful places like the Bay Area, Big Sur and Monterey Bay. I now have second thoughts about relocating to Idaho BECAUSE of all the Californians who are moving there. They are who I want to get away from. And BTW, the gal at 1:56 may live in Idaho, but the short-cropped hair and the peace sign earrings is all California.
I've been here from California for 13 years, I didn't bring my California attitude here with me. I really appreciate Idaho and Idaho's way of life.

I'm a 5th generation so ca native. I consider myself pretty conservative. I've seen ca change considerably, especially in the last 2 decades, but I still love it. I'm located where the beach, desert & mountains are all within 1 hour away - don't know of any other state that has that. I visited Idaho once, about 25 years ago with my husband and 1-year-old son. Just a week-long family vacation. Lots of beautiful places, but some of the most unfriendly almost "cultish" group of strange people I've ever encountered & I've travelled plenty. My son who is super healthy & never been sick except in Idaho - caught some ungodly cough that kept getting progressively worse. We brought him to an ER and both the lack of a modern medical facility in Boise coupled with the complete moronic handling of our son helped us decide to never again step foot into the place. People are flocking to Idaho because they can't afford to live in ca. In order to survive here & live in a sense of comfort you need to possess 3 traits: A true willingness to work/hustle, resourcefulness and kindness. Kindness goes a long way in surviving. These comments from "Idahoians" are full of hate, mixed with a bit of jealousy - it's obvious they could never survive here. True Californians are welcoming, hard-working & givers.

There are places in Boise that, when I'd drive through, I couldn't tell if I was in Boise or Los Angeles anymore. They came in and raised housing prices so high that you can't afford to live anymore, not to mention the implants like to throw around that they're from California and they didn't do things there how we do things in Boise. So I said screw it, sold my house to some of them and moved 2000 miles away to a place that I can afford. No traffic here, you can rent a 3 bedroom house for under $600 a month and people actually understand what being neighborly means.
