This is actually pretty huge. Offline SP: Did a cow run. Started P1, basically teled around the entire map, got the top left corner waited few secs. Changed to P7 and went to town. I was killing P1 cows with P7 loot. As a fresh character or someone that cant run higher count this is pretty decent. I wouldn’t say for other zones but definitely for cows. I got massive amounts of runes and charms in just a few runs on my noob sorc.
That makes FoH-Paladin super viable for farming. It works up to players 3 and then drops off, so being able to do P1 and getting P7 loot, makes that a really viable farming build for Paladin which isn't hammer
I noticed this seal popping chaos. I would Tele around p8 then pop seals at p1 for faster clearing. If I didn't switch back to p8 again before popping the last seal the monsters would seem to have p1 drops. So same concept? I don't remember this being the case in LoD. Thanks Alex! And testers
20 years i've played this game. I can't belive i not once.. NOT ONCE, thought of going into cows, teleporting around, going back in on p7 and farm. WTH
I'm pretty sure I unintentionally knew this due to doing player 7 runs on single player. It was sometimes hard to tell if the playercount really dropped or not, but because this was all normal difficulty and about beating the game I never really thought anything about it
This is pretty cool. I might do some community room creations, perhaps titled 'delayed mf1' or 'delayed cows1' with a description of 'join after x duration'. Once the timer hits like a minute or two, game fills up, and everyone enjoys increased loot. Gonna try this!

So its sort of up to you to decide whether using this tactic is fine, or if you feel like you're exploiting a bug for your benefit.
I kinda already "knew" this but never did any official testing. Back on pluggy, id do meph runs where id kill the council on P1 since they are a pain with the hydra and curses, tele over to that red portal, spawning meph, go to town to change to P7 since i was under the impression he would give better drops. He was still easy to kill with better drops. I once spawned him on P7 on a play through and noticed how much harder he was to kill. I went back to my sorc and killed him on p1 just to see if I had come on to something, which this vid confirmed. I never really continued with it tho since at the time, i was past my meph days and had moved on to AT and Pits for my grail.
alotta people in these comments sound really stupid. this is a far cry from using hero editor lol, playing on /p7 doesnt guarantee you anything it just makes things a bit more likely. its also not as optimal as actually farming /p7 since you have to activate everything. only really useful for specific places like trav and cows too. this is more of a mid-tier strat if you dont mind adding extra time and dont have optimal mf gear. Of course this will depend on where you want to draw the line, as some people consider cheesing strats like /p7 popping chests to be too far, but its certainly not as cheesy as changing your computer clock or loading up external programs. it's something that's been in the game forever. the one place I can see this being really cheating is a single pass challenge run, but considering its a self directed challenge you would just avoid doing this. thanks for the vid llama this is a crazy discovery!
I actually have successfully bugged whole Act 4, Nihta, WSK and cows in one game. That cannot be more massive ❤ All that online in Bnet, it's kinda strange that i observed this bug for many years, but never realised how i can use it, lol. I am grateful for that video and i realized i have played that game wrong my whole life, lol.
*im a 2001 player, a gift for everybody, there is a trick to kill all the monsters in chaos sanctuary and get drops of all the monsters, can be activated even at P8* guess this was an easter egg too or just a bug
Well... I've been doing this for years and didn't know it was a secret! I remember being a teen and doing this and loved this "cheat" to get more loot with my really weak characters.
Muhahah, i did exactly the opposite: activated as much monsters as i could at high player count and then, when party leaves, i killed all that in a comfortable pace thinking that the loot is P7 while it is actually P1. Well...at least i got the exp
This is why free item games are so prevalent. Some players already had a gut feeling that spawning the monsters on p1 could have their drops effected by Players count increase
This might be just me, but it only feels really worthwhile to do this for just cows and trav. Idk it feels like a chore for baal waves and chaos because if im understanding this video right you gotta activate every monster pack so teleporting around getting the nonsters to move then leaving. Maybe im being too lazy in the thinking on this but im definitely gonns try this!
It may not be worth it for every single Baal wave but maybe rather certain waves, such as wave 2 for Hammerdin where you rely on merc to clear the summoners. Or wave 5 for melee chars who might want the XP and not be doing the tele trick there.
I really wish for a way to play my offline characters with my friends/family offline characters together (ie: no battlenet multiplayer) while keeping /players 7 or 8 activated. Man I want that so much. Nice trick they found. Are you going to use it for something Llama ?
And this is why d2lod is one of the greatest games ever made! There is such complex logic happening with the magic find item drops that bugs made the game fun for years and years. The bugs are a feature! Fast forward to Diablo immortal for example. All drop chances are based on cooldowns and what not. It's a really cheap way to control drop rate. But it's not clever at all!!! To create a game with such amazing drop rate algorithms is truly one of a kind.
Another reason for new players to run away 😂 My mate days before was mad when I told him how to "trick" ancients, and skip waves in Throne room, he spent week to finish ACt5 , and he just lost all desire to continue playing after he knew there was a hacks like that...
so my question now that this is posted how likely are they to modify code to wreck it? I know they can't be bothered to give us anything useful but I can see them jumping on this...
Whilst this is a great find: if you're doing this purely for rune drops then doing lower kurast is still a higher rate without having to manipulate player count in this way. The only reason to run Travincal instead would be in the hopes of getting uniques and more gold. This would be a great farming method during terrorized Trav though.
Lower Kurast is so fucking ridiculous sometimes, recently,i did like 5-6 hours of 25~second runs straight, found mostly garbage but that ONE fking Log next to waypoint dropped a Ber. for the 2nd time xd

this wont work for me. weird. its not like its difficult to understand. i even tried killing off my merc thinking maybe his holy freeze was "saving" the mobs at P1 but that made no difference either.
Seems to me the obvious exploit is teleporting around the Chaos Sanctuary to reactivate all those mobs after spawning them and leaving the area, then killing the last seal boss to insta-kill them all at once, and you have a sanctuary filled with P7 loot.
I don't think that works, when the last seal boss dies all the unkilled monsters despawn without dropping any loot. They no longer "die" like they used to.
@@Lones555 i dont know if you mean any mod or one of the many remakes but original d2 this chaos strat worked! The Monsters get insta killed. And if you were loading them within the last few seconds they would drop. One of the most advanced farm techniques imho. You could get the drops of more then half of chaos whilst only killing seal bosses. And as we all hopefully know for highrunes only a few things help. Among those things is killing alot of stuff and ghosts which is both combined here.
Does this mechanic also work online? Enter a P7 game, tele around the map to reveal enemies, and when the other players leave the game kill enemies for P7 loot?

It's just not something most people would bother with. You'd see this implemented in some scenarios like for example making sure your group left the game during countess runs so you wouldn't get p8 drops from her.
Mhm, I didn't really get the hype about this besides the test proof. I thought it was more commonly known that spawned on p1 is making them p1 Stat wise even if you fill the game up after spawning. About the nodrop chance, I have not really done this enough to reflect much over it but still that it isn't always working as you'd assume. Also since only playing online it's more of a hassle. Hard to get a consistent group of people that would help and if using multi clients even if macros can fix joining with 6 loaders it's still just a bit much. Ofc pub runs you'd have to be very quick to make it viable even for cows if you open asap after creating a game by getting the leg after the run unless spawning and going for leg while ppl join, tho used to ppl filling the games within 5-10sec after creating.
Does this only work for P7 or are lower player counts viable as well? I have 3 copies of D2R. There’s no way my computer can run 7 D2R windows at the same time.
That's why I also love speedrunning. You have a game that is set for 10+ years, and suddenly somebody comes around, does something everybody just thought was set in stone, and proves everybody wrong. And just because they couldn't accept "no" as an answer :D
*thats not new, i own 12 cd keys of diablo 2 classic, and i host private games with all my alts, i used to do this since 2001 to farm high runes and unique items, if was not published in that forum or youtube is because was our own trick and personal discovery to gain power in the game, now everybody knows it, anyway even in player 1 after 1000 runs in trav u will get a jah or ber. if u are going to buy 7 cd keys more to test this, be carefully with your eyes, is only for professionals this*

This actually makes sense. If you're in a zone and the time rolls over to the terrorized zone that you're currently in then the mobs would be updated.

It works on mp but is extremely impractical. Coordinating people joining and stuff is slower than just having everyone play together.

Just watched this while doing barb trav runs. Switched to my sorc and tried this out. 4 runs and got an Um and a Vex. Lol. Like JUST happened.

A bit like changing to players 7 before opening super chests, works the same and gives much more loot,eg at the end of pit runs or other mini dungeons

You could just edit the game files to have a nodrop of 0 for all mobs/treasureclasses.

Instead of teleporting away could you just go into the durance from travincal? If that works, might be viable for other classes without enigma.
Or just use a tele staff.

Why are drops affected by the max players and not the actually joined players?
This is not a bug though, it's WAI.
You can do the same to "unterrorize" monsters, btw.

Sounds like what Llama found with Baal runs to skip super unique packs. I'm sure the same rules apply, but with nodrop.

You'd be doing the reverse. Adding difficulty for less payoff.

I thought this was well known already, it's the same concept as switching to players 7 before popping the last seal in CS
Does this only work for P7 or are lower player counts viable as well? I have 3 copies of D2R. There’s no way my computer can run 7 D2R windows at the same time.

That's why I also love speedrunning. You have a game that is set for 10+ years, and suddenly somebody comes around, does something everybody just thought was set in stone, and proves everybody wrong. And just because they couldn't accept "no" as an answer :D

I think they need to do SSF mode like d3. Let us play seasonal with leader boards but give us access to the players command

*thats not new, i own 12 cd keys of diablo 2 classic, and i host private games with all my alts, i used to do this since 2001 to farm high runes and unique items, if was not published in that forum or youtube is because was our own trick and personal discovery to gain power in the game, now everybody knows it, anyway even in player 1 after 1000 runs in trav u will get a jah or ber. if u are going to buy 7 cd keys more to test this, be carefully with your eyes, is only for professionals this*
