There's a lot of potential modes for SRV racing - pick up a list of target items, shoot targets along the route for time bonus, terrain based speed boosts, king of the hill, team events where 4 in a group need to accomplish a set of tasks each, aerials to jump through targets, etc. Some of these could be done with very minimal change to the game.
If they add base building components that react to vehicles and ships, you could use those components as triggers for checkpoints of a custom race track, but also as triggers for automating your base. Even if its just a checkpoint asset that does a little thing, whenever a ship or SRV goes through, would already be huge for the racing community. But for racing it would be essential to make sure all the participants are in the same instance, even if there's tons of spectators. OOOOHHHhh ADD LOOP-THE-LOOPS!
Haha, last week we were thining with friends about totally unexpected ideas for a new feature... and racing is a thing, even more like star wars - some quasi-hoverships and race between canyons :D You read my mind!
We could pick a planet with a cool skybox and interesting terrain and do a “Paris - Dakar rally type overland race. You could have peaceful and full contact circuits. You’d also need pvp security contractors in the sky to keep gankers away.
I've done it many times with Ascorbious and Plater on lie stream, great fun. the detail you get at some of the planet stations is amazing, the fact you can exit into your srv while on the landing pad is great. you can see a srv hanger under your ship and race around the roads on station. re-enter hanger to re-enter ship, and i can image great on foot pew pew with thargoids at the planet stations so much potential.
2:50 This right here could in my opinion be the start of something amazing in the game if they do it. All the populated systems feel more or less the same but if you somehow give CMDR-s the ability to build new things in it and customize it then that would make every system different and the best part is that players will be doing it so FDev can simply work on other features. And I don't think it is too far fetched of an idea. For example, you can already change the look of your Fleet Carrier and depending on the model you choose, your ship can collide with different types of carriers. What I mean is, it has been proven that players can alter the face of the galaxy and interact with the changes they have chosen with the click of a button. What if players can customize stations just as easily as they customize carriers, or ground bases, even? If players can for example be able to just buy a certain patch of ground on a planet for example and decide to put a wall, a building or a tower there, for example, just like they would change the outlook of their carriers and have it stay there permanently for all to see then that would be a massive game changer in my opinion. I think they should go for it immediately.
The answer is latency. You get two cmdrs in an instance and you'd be fine. Get 12, and you're looking at a comical experience where you're experimenting with SRV's attached to invisible bungie cables.
There are enough racing games available. No need to waste time on something like that. I'd rather they'd reduce time of getting in and out of ships. I dont do any bio things in odyssey, im waiting longer to get in and out of ships than i am actually playing.
Sorry I missed this when it came out as I do SRV racing all the time. Check out the Elite Racers (who organise regular SRV racing events) and the Buckyball Racing Club whose races often feature SRV stages. Also take a look at EDCopilot which has a fantastic built in time-trial feature in the Places section of its UI which features dozen of SRV time trial courses, each with its own automated global leaderboard.

it would be COOOOOOOOOOOOL

It would be a really good feature

As a small update of people want it that’s fine but not as a huge we think this will change the game announcement
Topping a hill/mountain has been fun during exploration, and racing down a glacier.

this could be it you know
I did a simple race recently and it was a blast. Seems like they could use the gates from the ship training and CQC to make courses.
definately

I think it could quite easily be done - and with existing assets - add engineering for SRVs - then you have a thing

It is certainly a feature that alot would take advantage of
Yeah but it's still be fun. If they wanted to be precise you'd have to have a time trial type thing so everyone races separately and records a time.
This is already available in EDCoPilot - dozens our courses each with its own automated global leaderboard.
Buckyballs racing was a thing 8 years ago fun times

This is a test (for some reason every time I enter my full comment UA-cam removes it again).

KEEP TESTING ON ALL THE VIDEOS IF YOU LIKE :)
@@RicardosGaming do my comments get posted to you for approval? Can you see any reason why they're being rejected?
SRV racing and no thanks you can keep it.
Why not?
