The true ending of the game has one of the best songs I've heard in a video game.
I'm such a fan boy for this game. It's one of the few games i have 100%ed and the only game i have 100%ed that i still regularly come back to. The music, the gameplay, the story. This one just nailed it for me.
After you unlock god keepsakes you can basically force any combinations of stuff you want in any run. Late game suffers from low RNG if you abuse all systems that you have.
But yeah overall it is a magnificent experience with unique storytelling and engaging combat
i'll be honest, that actually sounds pretty cool. having low RNG is good imo. or at least i like it
@@OWlsfordshire well that's why i switch it up. cause to me the combat is fun to play with. so even if I'm using something sub obptimal/under powered the combat is fun enough that i don't care.
You also get more re-rolls and the like as you progress through the Mirror of Night, which also helps reduce the number of "not-so-useful" choices you can get forced into.
"suffers" from low RNG, lol. If you want to 100% the game, level up all the trinkets, using the same builds again and again will prevent that
Also: never pass up a Daedalus hammer
Something to remember when building out Zag on each run is that unless you force it the game will only give four gods. Once the fourth is locked in that's it. Also, Hermes doesn't count as a god, the system reads him like a hammer so he doesn't add to family favorite and typically you'll only receive two boons from him. Last tip, mirage shot is bugged on Beowolf and does 100% extra damage. The UA-camr Haelian is a great resource if you want a deeper perspective about the game.
So cool you get to experience this for the first time now. I look forward to your full review, especially of the voice acting, which for me is up there with some of the best in video games period
Another suggestion: Pyre. Really good game from Supergiant, with elements of RPG and a lot of choices, variable of outcomes, depending on your performance during the Rites. Sorry for bad english(not native)
I bounced off hard of Pyre. Might give it another shot somewhere down the road, but out of all the supergiant games, that one just did not do it for me gameplay wise.
@@timofaust1315 , I'm interested. What exactly did you not like? Simplicity of gameplay, or for you it's too strange/unintuitive? Regardless of an answer, i totally agree that of all Supergiant games this one has least polished gameplay. Sorry for bad english x2
@@anatoro6825 If I remember right, the "sports game" part of it was just nothing I felt interested in or that gave me any joy to play.
Playing that main part of the game felt more like a chore to me I have to endure to get to the parts that were slightly more interesting.
It is not a bad game, I just was not the target audience. Love all their other games, though.
Fantasy Sportsgame was something i was looking for, unfortunatly the Gameplay didnt really do it for me. But i still finished it because the World, Story and Characters were absolute worth it. Transistor is now the only game left from Supergiant to try out. Hades seems to be the combination of all the good things the other 3 Games did.
I would highly recommend playing Hades with a controller. I almost always play games with keyboard and mouse, but this games just feels and plays so much better with a controller.
And rebind the reload button if you play with a controller with the gun.
And resource director doesn't count for 100% ... It just doesn't.
Yeah in general, and especially if the dash attack move isn't easy to pull off on a keyboard. Depending on the build being able to consistently dash attack is crucial.
I found this one to be equally playable on controller and mouse and keyboard, and I am almost entirely a diehard controller fan
Finishing the entire mansion with everything feels like a painful level of grinding
@@sheikyerbouti3534 Interesting. I used MKB and couldn't stand the shield. haha
Love that I recnetly found your channel. I really like the format you use for reviews, and opinion knowing you've thoughrly played the games.
Currently binging your reviews for all the games I want to play as we speak :)
Just found your channel and was looking for your Hades review! So keen to hear what you have to say, since it's one of my favourite games :)
I'm looking forward to your 100% review, Hades is one of my favourite roguelikes. The character interactions is what did it for me.
My favorite bit of this game, was playing matchmaker with the various supporting cast members. Most games only include romance options for the protagonist, and nothing else. but this game has TONS of opportunities for you to pair up lovers who had tragic breakups, often the event that got them killed and sent to Hades. And if there is one thing humans love doing, it's hooking people up that they think have good chemistry. So having that as a motivation for repeating the runs over and over became HUGE fun for me and my wife. I was like "yeah yeah, Zagreus has his flame that he's into, and a few others in a polyamorous thing...but what about those 2 warriors in the third map phase?! Or the musician lovers?! I want to get them back together. Screw the idea of them being in misery for eternity! I getting them to hook up damnit!" and considering how rebellious and contrary Zagreus is to his father's entire premise, it's 100% in character for him to be like "oh...so part of their eternal damnation is to be separated from each other? Well screw THAT noise! I'm going to give them a happy ending if only to spite my father! But I'm ALSO doing it because I genuinely LIKE these people, and want to see them happy damnit!"
So yeah, that was a ton of fun.
One of the only rogue-likes that utilizes the genre tropes to help tell its story. 10/10
Same here hades is the only rougelike that i like only cause how well the story is intrigrated with the gameplay
This is one of my favorite games. It's a game that has lots of room to become more challenging, and the gameplay loop is perfect imo, honors your time, but still has lots of room to experiment and progress over the long term
I’ve done a 16 minute run and it’s honestly the most nerve inducing, hand shaking experience I’ve ever had playing a game. Also it’s probably the most I’ve ever tried really hard to play a game really well.
One of my favourite games. I've done all achievements, heat 40 but didn't manage to beat Hades in first possible run. In a genre which I don't play often.
RNG is not that bad. I think if you want to play up to heat 30 it is not a problem as there are a lot of ways to boost Zagreus and change his boons, that you can always beat Hades.
Probably because you dont play often. If you do you, can spot those tricks the genre uses more easily and you might have less patience for that same reason.
I spent many hours playing Hades, awesome game. Sometimes the rewards were useless and I got a bit frustrated, but that pushed me to do one run after another until I advanced the story. Great and awesome video/work, hugs.
One of the rare ones I have 100%'d, and I loved every minute of it. Have a great journey!
My fav reviewer reviewing my fav game yay. I can’t wait to buy Hades 2 for my PC, PS5 & Switch like I did the first lol. Such a labor of love
Hey Mort! This game is VERY stream-able! peeps would love to watch you grind your way thru the achieves!
100% is gonna be tough and hell of a grind ^^
Well, the race is on... I started Hades 2.5 weeks ago and miss only one more achievement, but knowing your pace, you'll probably beat me to it 😉 I'm looking forward to your deep dive, already.
Hades is a fantastic game I’m so glad that you covered it! XD
I heard great things about this game, and I played Bastion and Transistor beforehand (both often go on sale very cheap). Not sure I really gelled with the hack-and-slash top-down combat but they were interesting, and short enough, to keep me sticking around to the end.
With this one, I had a quick go just to see what it was like, and again not sure how I feel about the combat, but also I have found recently that I'm not sure Rogue-likes are my thing. I much prefer something that's laid out and you can plan your approach. I guess it's like the difference between improv and scripted theatre (of which I always preferred the latter). So I'm not sure if I'd like this for 20+ hours as opposed to the 6-ish hours of their previous games.
Returnal is quite similar to this, I think, in terms of its systems and gameplay loop, and I bounced off that one after a couple hours - though that was partly due to the visuals being quite harsh on the eyes. Would be interested to see how you feel about it though.
got this is early access n 2019 and its been a banger ever since!
Think you'll enjoy this one. Like you, I play a lot of isometric crpgs, at nowhere near your clip 🙂, and found this to be a nice change of pace, my first roguelike in years. The constant fear of taking a single hit turns you into a better player in just about any game, becomes a mindset.
Funny enough, I bought this years ago, bounced of in early access and started playing it the same time as you.
And damn, did it suck me in. The soundtrack. The characters. Wow. Wow. Wow. Happy I gave it another try :)
Fun fact: The audio design is so good, it's almost blind playable. There's a mod to actually make it blind playable.
My offspring just completed Hades for the first time and they loved it. I'll wait to see your review but I'm very close to buying it, and I don't buy a lot of games.
One of my favorite games. I hope you have a blast getting 100%
I JUST!!! completed my first escape after about 50ish attempts and now you drop a video about the game. The fates work in mysterious ways🤣
One of my favorite games of 2020!
realy looking forward to your perspective on the game after 100%
Hey Mortismal! I like these little slices, always good to see you look at the game in more ways than one. I'm just curious, are you planning on creating a Discord server at some point?
Not currently
Onward to 200k. All glory to the algorithm.
My man. I'm jealous of the fun you're gonna have in your next 500 hours 😄
As an old member of the "Hey Deez" community, I welcome you with open arms and heart filled with love 😉
Shocked you've never played Hades before. Its an excellent game! Lucky to enjoy the amazing voice acting for the first time, particularly Meg. Rawr.
Min/max the builds as you would normally, but be sure not to overlook min/maxing the story scenarios too! Try things like getting to a certain place/character and die on purpose, or use buffs from specific characters against specific characters, and in late game after you've unlocked most things, try turning off buffs and doing a run again. The character interactions will recognize so, so many of those weird, niche scenarios and it's often very fun, funny, and interesting.
One of my favorite games
One of my favorite games ever!
I have started the game on Deck, I think it feels great on that platform.
The game is hard though for me, as I suck at these types of games :))
Have fun with it!
100% at around 100hrs seems within ballpark. You might get there quicker since you're a game reviewer but that was around the timeframe I took. I'm going to echo some of the other comments recommending to try controller, everything feels significantly smoother to chain together. I started the game with kb/m but tried out controller a few hours in and ended up sticking with it.
I'm not usually into rogue like games that require twitch reflexes to win as I generally suck at them, but I picked up Hades last year and loved it so much I kept going until I was finally able to beat it. I did use the god mode a few times to get past a few of the more difficult bosses (when I had some difficult modifiers up) and was so glad that option was available so as to not roadblock players who are not as good at these games.
Great thing about Hades unlike games like Enter The Gungeon or Dead Cells is that you feel powerful right from the start. The annoying part of ETG were the sponge enemies until you get the good weapons and dead cells it takes a while until you feel powerful against the enemies
oh nice great choice.
Hope you do Celeste and Hollow Knight as well as Crosscode
Haven't played Hades though I do want to
master piece
This game is just perfect, my first 100%
Pls review fear and hunger
This game is a solid 10 in my book, the first rogue-like/lite I've ever enjoyed. I hope you enjoy it as well.
Great video! I really enjoyed this game for about 40-50hrs but the rng eventually killed the experience for me. Just became frustrating knowing I wasn’t getting good matching boons so I couldn’t progress as far. Especially when the bosses become harder and harder. Overall a great game for the time I played though.
The good and bad of rogue-like is the randomness.
The bad side is there will be runs near impossible to win and runs where the game becomes super easy
The good side of rogue-likes is those runs that really challenges the player to take what the random god gives you and pull off a win.
Sword of the Stars the Pit was the first rogue-like I got into and it will take years to get 100%. Some of the achievements are ridiculous as well as the highest difficulty. It seems the highest difficulty is designed to take advantage of the blue rooms. (blue rooms help deals with some of the randomness but requires grinding of runs to fill the blue rooms with great weapons and items so you can do a run fully equipped to go all the way.)
I really like this game, but my potato can't run it properly even if it passes the recommended specs. Makes the higher heat levels very frustrating when it's stuttering all the time and frames are dropping to sub-20. I might revisit it if I ever manage to acquire funds to buy a decent PC.
Got tier game everything the art the music the style
And expertly made game. The story is well developed too for a roguelite.
It was my GOTY 2020. I wish I could wipe my memory, go back and play it again.
Would you rethink and try again with Seven: Day's Long gone? I heard GOG version (and it's on sale right now there) works better than Steam version so maybe that will work?
It's such a fantastic game.
I'll keep tinkering with it, but the problems leave me unable to provide a timeline
@@MortismalGaming That's is really bizzare :/ I had no idea the game has some serious issues. I've played it twice (one after release and once after enchanced edition dropped) and I had no problems apart from some minor bugs and crashes.
I hope you'll figure it out. It's a real gem - Much more of "immersive sim" than RPG.
100%ing this game will be a LONG time 😆
I completed the game in 70 hours. I believe you can do at the similar time or faster. Overall, game is quite easy compared to many other roguelites and the main completion problem is the grind of runs to trigger conversations you need for progression and keepsakes
I don't know how I would feel about playing with mouse/keyboard. I play on switch, and the controller play is fantastic.
Took me about 55 hours to get the Platinum on PS5. I fucking loved this game.
I think this game is incredible. I very much enjoyed completing it. One of my absolute favorites in years and I really look forward to the sequel.
My only platinum, you'll have an amazing time
Great quick vid.
Have you played this on the steam deck?
I have subbed, great content btw!!
How about Warm Snow. Same formula, but better (IMHO, of course)
I just cannot get into this game. I don’t necessarily love rogue lites but I did love Returnal. Have you played that? One of the best games I’ve played in a while
I know it probably won't happen but I really wish hades 2 gets a god of war cameo
I would strongly recommend for you to use a controller for this one.
It really, really is better.
I don't like Roguelikes/Roguelites, but the visuals are really cool.
Hades is flawless
Supergiant don't miss
This is a slickly polished, and fun game to play. Even in the few hours I spent with it, the quality and craft of it was obvious. And I did enjoy it. But it's too twitchy for me to be any good at. There's a reason I stick to strategy games, CRPGs, and turn-based games. Once the button mashing becomes frantic, I'm out. :P
Wow man, this is a pretty long game for 100%, but really "god" fun! :D
This will take years to 100%..
Hey Mort, just to save you some time you don't need 32heat run for 100% achivs. Only 'silver' will suffice. Good luck!
The artwork looks awesome, the control is smooth and feels good, most of the characters are interesting, the dialog is great.
All that being said I don't think is a good game past the first 10 or so hours. It's extremely repetitive and I am not exaggerating, even for a rogue type of game. And even that would be ok because if people like the mechanics they will have fun anyway, but the worst about this game is that it's very forgettable.
I can't think about anything special about it beyond the art style. And I am talking about the drawing art style of the characters while they are talking, since the in game models are just serviceable.
It's a good game to have fun for a few hours, if you are fine with never finishing it.
Wait, you want to tell us it happens that RNG goes your way? Impossibru!
Like this Hades 2 is releasing in EA, so no hurry.
I really enjoyed Bastion but I just could not get into Hades, like most roguelites, I'll try them for one or two runs but generally lose interest after a few hours. It was good to see the team score a hit though.
yes, I'm looking forward to see how you like this game. they announced the sequel to this. it's great to play before that comes out.
All I gotta say is when you unlock the fist weapon, that's all you'll need lol. Uppercutting your way out of hell. Also this 100% is gonna take a while lol, but you shred through games.
This game's story is fun, the characters are interesting and the combat is great but my God I got tired of doing the same thing 3,000 times. I think it broke me on roguelikes.
First impressions? This game is the absolute 🎉❤@#*!
I am looking forward to the 100% review in 2024.
I would enjoy Hades a lot more if I could get past Meg while saving my Death Defiances, lol. This ARPG is more difficult than Grim Dawn.
This game is a masterpiece, have fun with it ✌️
Getting all achievements is around 100-150 hours, but 100%-ing the game is a lot more. The completionist broke down and gave up, as it is a lot of grinding. Take my advice as a fan of the game who has platinumed it - don't try to review after 100%. :)
Lmao. All Mort hears when he reads your comment: "challenge accepted!"
I got bored with the lack of enemy variety.
Incredible game, so addictive and only gets better the more you play
Mortismal take care when reviewing these Roguelikes and Hack & Slash games. You will get burned easily when doing the 100%.
Btw these missable stuff or cool rng scenarios is one of the biggest problems of the genre. Which is why the solution to this problem to tie why the good missable stuff to specific progression throught the story (so they arent that missable anymore). Well true roguelikes are few indeed. Bottom line these roguelikes may not have interesting stuff in the 100%, honestly it depends on the game, but very few do so. So care because you may fall into a rabbit hole doing 100% stuff and your job turning to a chore.
Does it really take ~100 hours to 100% hades on average? I did it in a little over 60 hours, and I thought I was taking my time with it.
Morning man! Good game. I never got massively into it, in fact I never beat it. Make sure you pet cerberus 10 times for a achievement
Little late to the party on this one man lol.
Over and over again. Die again and again. What is the fun?
This game is fire. Ive played 200h+ and is still super fun/challenging
Loved that game. Couldnt 100% it because I couldnt get the story beats for the Nyx achievement.
Over 200 hours in. bit mad but dont regret the time spent.
I despise roguelike games. Far too repetitive for me. Game looks phenomenal tho
For your roughly 7 hours you've spent on this game at time is this recording... those seven hours probably have at least another 170 friends.
If you want to 100% this game you probably need to switch to controller ;)
May you wander in wisdom, and have an amazing day
Why people think rng not going your way is a bad thing? Honest question
