They were National Treasures with their Christmas specials being a must watch.
Christmas just isn't Christmas without Morecambe and Wise.
The tune is 'The Stripper's
The whole scene was done in one take!!!
They did all of this to the music. The music was not done for this sketch. True classic. Can't get anything like it today.
Morcambe and Wise Christmas Special- Andre Previn and the Grieg Piano Concerto is a must.
Oh they lit up my childhood. Loved them so much.
The Andre “Preview” Previn sketch was hilarious. The looks on the faces of the orchestra who are all struggling to hold it together without laughing is priceless.
Just in case you didn't know the music is called "The Stripper".
Eric and Ernie were sooooooooooooooo funny and loved..... as I teenager I saw them live on stage and they were AMAZING
The statue of Ernie Wise is in Morley, West Yorkshire and the statue of both of them in Blackpool.
That M&W kitchen scene was simply genius.
At 2:20 - Ernie's wife said this was the bit Ernie was most happy with, as he caught the toast in one take. No mistakes, perfectly timed. This made him very happy.
Child discoveries in the UK as far back as the 1930s, Morecambe & Wise's act was developed over 40 years and delivered one of the UK's best loved comics in Eric Morecambe (a name derived from his home town in Lancashire - his real name being John Eric Bartholomew).
And Ernie was Ernest Wiseman from Peterborough
The sketch was shot in one take.
We adored these two. They were part of Christmas and always remind me of my father who loved their wacky humour.
Just to correct your pronunciation of Erics surname, the 'b' is silent! it should sound like Morcum. Great reactions, keep up the good work!
This classic M&W sketch was first broadcast in 1976. For some background, the tune is called 'The Stripper' and usually accompanies someone on stage gradually removing their clothes - you get the idea! (It's pronounced 'mawcum', btw!) Oddly for these days, while both Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise were married in 'real life', their comedy personas lived together and even shared a bed, with absolutely nothing unusual being thought of this in their 1970s family TV shows. It was, indeed, all good clean family fun that was a highlight of the Christmas night BBC TV schedule for most UK households.
Eric was the funniest man that has ever lived
There is a statue erected to Eric Morecambe in Morecambe, Lancashire overlooking Morecambe Bay.
This one is famous along with the Andrè Previn sketch.
At 1:25 - Ernie's wife said that Ernie hated watching this bit with the egg whisk, as he came in too quick with the whisking. Being a perfectionist, he saw that he started whisking too soon to the music, and since it was impossible for a retake, it was left in.
I loved these two. They were so funny.
We'll never see the likes of them again
Well, you can't beat perfection. Imho this is not only their best ever sketch, but I think the best sketch of all time
Eric was born in the seaside town of morecambe so adopted its name is real name was eric barhtholomew.
Try Eric and Ernie with Des O'connor.
It's good 🤭
And Andrew Preview (Previn). All the right notes...
Morecambe is pronounced morcam, not mor can bay... Though as Morecambe is a seaside town Morecambe bay is a thing.
Mor-cam-bay? It is Morcambe... Silent b..... You are a great guy and I enjoy your videos.
This sketch was redone by other comedians but not as good as the original one.
Hi Connor. Years ago when this was filmed it was a much more innocent time, we as kids just laughed at it, it was hilarious. Nowadays the Politically Correct organisations would probably ban this, two blokes living together! Such innocent times back then.
"The politically correct organisations would probably ban this, two blokes living together." Yeah, the politically correct organisations ("Politically Correct UK PLC" presumably?) are notoriously against depicting same-sex relationships. I swear some people are just wandering round imagining persecution. Yesterday John Cleese was all over Twitter complaining that the BBC hadn't shown any Monty Python in decades (the implication being that Politically Correct Woke Brigader Members had cancelled it).... the replies were wonderful, listing all the times clips from Python had been shown on a regular basis on the BBC and reminding John that the rights to the full episodes weren't even owned by the BBC anymore (so they'd be prosecuted if they showed them) and the full episodes are all over Talk TV and Netflix. But no... the loony PC brigade at the BBC were "banning" Python according to Cleese.
You've got that the wrong way round.
It's political correctness would favour two blokes living together not against it.
There is me with no clue as I would just ignore any pc stuff and accept how things are before it
@@ajaxlewis7664 Do you ever remember them “living” in a flat and they shared a double bed; again more innocent time when no-one thought anything of it. Oh and Eric eating a family sized bag of crisps in bed and Ernie was annoyed because of the crumbs 😂
@@enkisdaughter4795 I'm 29 so it's before my time and they don't show it anymore (I can probably find it) i guess the humour outweighed a homophobic response. Don't know if that sentence makes sense but i know what i mean lol sorry
You know the music is usually used for strippers
More-come and Wise. No B
💜👍💜👍😁
I don't think you got the in-joke that was at play here. The music is widely known as stripper music, so they were basically acting out a stripper routine.
It's. morecambe & wise not morecambe bay & wise.
It is pronounced More Cum, but that's enough for now.
The music was originally, at some point, about a striptease - -taking your clothes off..that's one of the reasons why it's so funny...
