Skip I hate to see the silos go. We have silos and bags it is a toss up. Our last unloaders was15000. We have recoated3 of them and replaced door frames.they are expensive to maintain. When we figure how many loaders and mixers to feed out of the bags it is pretty much a wash. In the winter or when it is raining it is a lot easier to push the buttons and turn on the belt feeder on.😂What works for one operation doesn’t mean it works for the other. I really enjoy your videos and your love for the cows. We have beef
Well. If your gonna feed 2 bunks make sure your new mixer can feed from both sides. Biggest advice I can give would be consider thinking about moving to robotic milkers. That would save a lot of time and maintenance. Many dairy men have said it made their lives much easier. You also add in the internal tagging system and you can know your cows health in every way from your phone anywhere.
Hi Kip, we made two moves first move was away from belt feeders to mixer behind tractors. Second move was to silo king self propelled mixer. Belt feeder over the bunk got tore out… I miss it. It would be nice to unload without moving cows. Maybe keep belts do away with silos. I miss the convoyer feeder
Don’t need nose rings with A I 😢😢. THANKS GOOD MAN 👍👍 can’t wait to see ya get started on the TMR MIXER RATION it will seem a little bit slower at first but you will learn the ropes quickly.
I agree with the hoof trimmer schedule we get our guys Dean and Chad to take care of us 4 times per year. We usually never have many issues. The cows walk through the copper sulfate foot bath every day twice per day. That is our plan.
If your not having any digestion issues I would do without the straw in the TMR. Its nutrient void dry matter that will just be taking up space in the rumen.
Ha Ha. It’s not a mini horse but a Donkey Happy to see you enjoyed Northern Michigan. Likely drove through Kalkaska ( my hometown) to get to Charlevoix. Nathan looked like a convict with all the orange on while milking. 😂😂. You will enjoy the Ag bags vs the silos but remember to leave room for snow fall in the winter and where you plan to plow it. Keep up the great work with the farm and your videos.
Thanks for another great video Kip. It was interesting and enjoyable to watch. Glad you and your family were able to get away for a few days vacation. Looks like a nice place you were at. Very nice lake and some super Chris Craft boats. Those old wooden boats are worth a lot now days. Wow. Lots of things for the kids to do. That is great for family time. Great!!!!!! Still not using a mixer yet. Guess you are waiting for it to arrive. The hay wagon seems to be working ok for now. Takes times to get your new way of doing things working for you. Got the new bull with a ring in his nose. Seems to calm him down some for you. Good to have the hoof trimmer come on a regular schedule. Good for the cows. About it I guess. Thanks for the drone footage over the lake waters. That was very nice. Beautiful area you were at. All for now. Thanks for everything Kip. You all take care and be safe. The Iowa farm boy. Steve.
I enjoy watching your videos Kip. I'm a retired dairy farmer from Ontario. First thing I would do is get your cows on a milk recording program. Second, try to get away from using herd bulls. Use an ai company to breed your cows. When you get the mixer going try to have your divided into two or three groups. Good luck with all of the changes.
Been to Charlevoix twice. Once when I was 12 and then again in my thirties when my sister got married there. That was 19 years ago and being from Texas I have not been able to go back since. But what a town. I really want to go back. It is unbelievably beautiful unlike anything we have in Texas.
I would highly recommend a feed nutritionalist to help u out with ur protein and forage diets. U will be very pleased with the input he or she will have for u.👍👍👍
Do what works best for you. You'll soon figure it out. I'm curious to how your going to modify your bunks so your conveyor on your mixer doesn't hit the post on the edge of your bunks
Thanks for the video. I think your plan to drive through with the mixer is better and more efficient of a time than to keep using the belts in some capacity. Good to see the progression
At the dairy I’m at I’m the feed guy and I put in mineral and energy booster soy bean meal hominy hay and silage is our mixture topped off with water the amount poundage wise varies on how many cows I’m feeding for
Yeah hoof trimming is a important for animals health. Not sure about the commenting on the feed part of it. Sorry I don't know your cows. But I'm sure you have it figured out. My Dad always wanted us to feed and after they was all resting. They was some left over in the bunk. Then you knew they was full
GREAT JOB Is your dad gonna get a mixer at auction or you gonna get a new one you guys will be happy not useing them silos you said it before young mans game 10th generation farmer just put 3 new ones in over 135 ft plus and he s young now there 3 big pits will set empty anyways ejoy siegler farm s
I think it will be hard to go only in the middle as cows will swamp the side you fill up but maybe I will be surprised or are you planning to block it off til you get the feed out? Looks like those poles in the middle would have to come out or get different feeders? Looking forward to see the progress of this update! Thanks for the video!
What type of parlor? Single 6 side opening? Or more than 6 stalls? I ran a double 6 herringbone, and eventually learned that it only took 1 person, as long as I was the 1 person....😮
How are you gonna dump the feed from the mixer into that bunk with all those wodden posts?…..if you leave the bunk the way it is, it will be a pain dumping the TMR. Also the amount of fuel that you will be using is gonna be huge….feed mixers use a lot of fuel. Keep up the good work.
First thing you should get is a nutritionist otherwise you still feeding blind. Most dont cost anything as long as you buy product from them.. and that was a donkey not a mini horse😂
Don't know if you have ever watched the 10th generation farmer but thier doing just the opposite of what you're doing they just built 3 new 132ft silos and are going to stop using thier feed bunkers
@KipSieglerFarming1 get yourself a John Deere 324L loader you can use all of your skidloader attachments on it as well we have 2 brand new ones sitting on the lot at the John Deere dealer I work at
Hire a nutritionist. Your herd is too big to gamble on guessing. Overfeeding costs money, Underfeeding costs money. Not feeding the right nutrients costs in the herds health in the long run.
thank you for your hard work on your videos very cool kip from the uk

Thanks for taking us along on your vacation. Seeing that classic CrisCraft was special!!
Today is July 16th, and we're at Torch Lake. We were in Charlevoix today.
👍👍

Looks like a great little getaway

Enjoy your farm videos! But the Chris craft is beautiful, nothing rides like a wooden boat
That's a nice old boat. Take care and stay cool all !!!
Them criss craft boats are in great shape. Shows the quality that went into them so many years ago.
If your not having any digestion issues I would do without the straw in the TMR. Its nutrient void dry matter that will just be taking up space in the rumen.

Very cost-effective increase time management to do other tasks and specially spend time with your family
Thanks for another great video Kip.

And the trains at the end from your trip were great to see too

have you given any thought on how to work around the post next to the feed bunks
Thank you Kip for another great video, always enjoyable and interesting. God bless
Good improvements in my view!
Do what works best for you. You'll soon figure it out. I'm curious to how your going to modify your bunks so your conveyor on your mixer doesn't hit the post on the edge of your bunks
Thats the way to do it out of the mixer into the bunk. Im surprised you dont put soybean meal in also. Cotton seed and minerals
Did you contact the Amish about tearing down your cilos? I know here in PA we see the Amish taking some of the older cilos and reusing them.
I ENJOYED WATCHING THE VIDEO KIP 😊 ❤
I think way your are progressing is fine, son inlaw has no silos everything in bags, they milk and have Angus cows, works.
Thanks for the video. I think your plan to drive through with the mixer is better and more efficient of a time than to keep using the belts in some capacity. Good to see the progression
great video kip if i was still dairy farming i would get rid of conveyor. reducing breakdowns and expenses are important
At the dairy I’m at I’m the feed guy and I put in mineral and energy booster soy bean meal hominy hay and silage is our mixture topped off with water the amount poundage wise varies on how many cows I’m feeding for

Thanks for another great video Kip, I personally think you should just stay with the jd wagon and the way your feeding the cows now
Nice video...ty for sharing!!!!👍❤️🇺🇲 I was wondering how many gallons do you get per milking????? Ty...
Just wondering Kip do you ever have to dump the milk from the cow's?
GREAT JOB Is your dad gonna get a mixer at auction or you gonna get a new one you guys will be happy not useing them silos you said it before young mans game 10th generation farmer just put 3 new ones in over 135 ft plus and he s young now there 3 big pits will set empty anyways ejoy siegler farm s

If you go away from you silo of grain would you consider using dry corn with a bin n roller mill of some kind just a thought

It´s a minihorse, or as we say, donkey.
First thing you should get is a nutritionist otherwise you still feeding blind. Most dont cost anything as long as you buy product from them.. and that was a donkey not a mini horse😂
Another Great Video......thanks 👍🏻
Did you stop at castle farms? That is pretty neat history tour.
I assume that you have a nutritionist contracted? If you don't it would pay you big time.
You take all that frame work off the H bunks the animals will be in the bunks laying on the feed and will be pitching manure out
Can you please let us see possible a picture ofwhat mixers you are wanting to use to mix feed
how many years will you keep a nice new bull ?
What size mixer what kind of mixer you getting check out sonne farm he has a nice mixer what are those koons
i wouldnt leave that bag on your bagger like that
how many cows do you need to fill a tanker?
You have had a lot of issues with bulls… the last one had to have a similar procedure and I think you ended up getting rid of him right?
Have you ever thought about a bunker.
Kip, where do you send the milk to for processing? Detroit area? Thanks nice video!
We take their milk to Kroger... It's called michigan dairy in Livonia... Owned by Kroger
@@countryguy72065 thanks!
Do you use a nutrionist?
Redmon salt
What you called a mini horse was donkeys
Don't know if you have ever watched the 10th generation farmer but thier doing just the opposite of what you're doing they just built 3 new 132ft silos and are going to stop using thier feed bunkers
You grow soybeans use them for protein
You gotta roast then don’t you
@KipSieglerFarming1 I am not sure no beans grown nor fed where I am but you could look into it they're high in protein
Put up blue solos then your using too much fuel the blue solo it would be working from the bottom then
Never heard of anyone mixing in straw into feed
It’s very common up here
@@KipSieglerFarming1 we would use to grind a bale in the mixer for calf feed
@KipSieglerFarming1 get yourself a John Deere 324L loader you can use all of your skidloader attachments on it as well we have 2 brand new ones sitting on the lot at the John Deere dealer I work at
The tenth generation farmer is putting up silos and you are tearing them down.
Don't kid yersell buddy
Who’s kidding about what
