The snare drum though... The recording is thin across the board but it’s mind boggling that the engineer could make the snare sound like that. The gang vocals are hilarious to me, in a good way.
Your right about the 'gang' vocals...but it sounds different..uncommon..But like the record- Are we all supposed to be COMMON? I thought thats the point of Straight Edge? xXx
Yea, I never really liked the recordings on Bringin' It Down compared to this one. The band seems to agree. For those who don't know, The first release "Bringin' It Down" was recorded at Chung King studios in New York City. The band obviously hated the sound they got on the first release because they re-recorded the album (subbing out "Where It Went" and adding "Holding On" and "No Apologies") and called the album... well you know. I just found it interesting.
Thanks for posting - I can't afford the ebay version of this. I was really into the Cromags, Sick Of It All, Slapshot, Youth Of Today in the 80's... I remain completely baffled as to how this escaped me.
I had this and the aoq tape on tape in the early 90s. And I'm sorry to sound old and grumpy.. but all the haters don't get that sound because they compare this too their overproduced 00's Jc records , which might have been "fat".. but not raw!! This is the real shit including that snare.. hard as fuck!
The vinyl for this album is extremely rare and thus, extremely expensive. The last one I saw go was on ebay and it was sold for just over $3500. I'm currently saving up for the next one that goes myself, but sadly, it won't come without a very high price.
Thanks for posting. In retrospect it doesn't sound THAT bad. I think the biggest offense is the snare sound. So paper-y. The performances on "Bringin' It Down" are much stronger overall, so I'm glad they didn't just remix it. You can tell they used this as demo material though, since they made small changes to some songs. I'll 2nd that 10" boot. The guy who did it did a really good job, and there were a lot pressed, so you can probably find it pretty cheap. Or just buy the discography CD.
I had the "Revelation Can Suck It LP" it was a 10" on white vinyl, everybody was so pissed at Rev Records for releasing this in general, especially for extra money, and very rare. I forget who put it out, but he included all of the Rev layout work, in case someone wanted to bootleg it. Yeah we were all so mad at Revelation Records for those years...
Dan EC I bought one of those 10” boots at a show at Gilman St late 90s. I was stoked! This guy had a box of them. Should have bought a few extra copies! 😁
+Mike in Melbourne @ICareBecauseYouDo it was the engineer's fault. He was a coke addict and couldn't finish the job. So they finished it themselves because they wanted to put out another record.
@@matiasreyes666 mira para esa epoca hubieron albumes mas interesantes incluso el 7" de la banda vale la pena resaltar mas que este, me parece mas para coleccionistas,
Tin foil for a snare drum is alright. Listen to all the albums and demos of NYHC of 80s and most had recording issues. This made them all unique. Many bands went back to re-record songs and most were not preferred. These are not arena metal bands; the off-sounding recordings retain more of the gritty, violent, drug laden, street existing and squatting scene back then than anything else could.
If you think this recording sucks then you would be better off not listening to authentic NYHC. Most of the roots of NYHC and DC HC were recorded on 4 track. Many recordings you can hear every thing in the studio/room/basement it was recorded in.Bands were super hyped when they played at the Anthrax in Norwalk CT as the stage was Mic’d. This is actually one of the better recorded albums from our era.
Judge has a kind of mistakes. :) They did the ep New York Crew and they signed their level with that! And no other recordings of them can get close to that ep. In my opinion. ;) Greg from Hungary.
I don't seem to understand ,,,,,I saw this band vinyl LP on EBAY by accident and I was blown away with the $7000+ price and people bidding,, I listened to a little on youtube and I thought it was crappy 1/2 baked and poor quality across the board.. The beatles went to America to check out the mid west punk and these bands were wild,,post beatnicks and pre hippies era.. Yes this music from new york is unique and I guess you had to be there to get the full feel. I was in LA in 73 as a kid and I think I spent all day listening to the radio and I couldn,t get enough of that American music,,,it was unique,,and not played in Australia where I come from I came home and felt I learned something while I was on holliday. Wtf, personally I cannot stand hardcore in general, but you think this song, Lubricated Goat 'In the Raw": ua-cam.com/video/m4qIK5PiSyk/v-deo.html Is good? Your taste in music sucks. This "Judge - Chung King Can Suck It" album is semi-listenable, what you hyped sounds like the project of shitty high school kids.
definitely eBay and try discogs. there was also a version of this put out by Lost & Found records called "No Apologies" and it came on 12in pic disc and black vinyl, but i'm pretty sure they switched the track listing on it. if all else fails, the Revelation released Judge discography has it, but i'm assuming you know that already. good luck in your search!
it's reasonable have problems with an demo or first ep, but that was an lp from 1989, Born to expire came out in 1988 and sounds a lot better, as well Best wishes in the same year, definitely problems with engineering and the producer seems like he didn't care
Ive tried... I have so many friends who love this band and I've bought Judge records 4x's and sold them over and over again... I agree this LP isnt as good as "Bringing It Down", but I never got into Judge at all.
Absolutely I'm interested. Do you know if any sites have it...Im guessing I should try ebay, amazon. keep my eye out at record stores, which is highly unlikely to find one, haha
I guess im first. When people begin to write comments, anyone know where I can purchase this rare gem? I know a limited amount was pressed, but Im sure I would pay a little xtra. Thx
this record is a masterpiece of underground music.
anyone who thinks this album sounds like shit doesn't know anything bout 80's hardcore. sounds like gold to me.
I thought thats the point of Straight Edge? xXx
If you think this album sounds good you don’t know anything about drums
They also forget about you badly youtube compresses files.
What are you talking about? You're not the only one here that is familiar with old hardcore. This sounds like shit dude. Period.
So many negative comments.. Fucking love this! Blasting it real loud!!
Judge is my favorite hardcore band. I wish I could have gone to one of their shows.

lets send this album up in space... fucking fantastic!!!!
Thanks for posting! One of the best NYHC bands ever!
Raw as hell.. Judge foreva!
pure oldschool HC 4 ever
Thank you Judge.
Thank you for adding this HC gem. Love it!!
I love this so much! No wonder I'm into all the new age hardcore bands. This shit jams the fuck out.
Sounds great
Thanks for posting - I can't afford the ebay version of this. I was really into the Cromags, Sick Of It All, Slapshot, Youth Of Today in the 80's... I remain completely baffled as to how this escaped me.

probably because only a little over 100 copies were made, on a mail order release?
I had this and the aoq tape on tape in the early 90s. Judge is one of my favorite bands and I'm far from straight edge haha
neurocytohemotoxic that's because you're crooked edge, and now i flick a booger on you!
I had the LP lost and found released of this and always preferred it
fascinating backstory about that record
although how thin the drum sounds, you can still feel the fury of Siegler's playing
Straight edge at its best.
mike judge great vocalist
I think the poor mix downs make it even better sounding tbh
I agree

Judge sound excellent here.
How did the engineer manage to make the snare sound so crap, that in itself is impressive
+ICareBecauseYouDo Sadly, there was NO engineer when they recorded. It's as lo-fi as it gets. I still love this album though.
+Mike in Melbourne @ICareBecauseYouDo it was the engineer's fault. He was a coke addict and couldn't finish the job. So they finished it themselves because they wanted to put out another record.
the engineers been dead for 45 years
It almost sounds as if they're pitched up an octave. They go "pish".
Yeah that snare sounds like a toy drum. Sammy was/is a kick ass drummer!
Great album, thanks for posting it.
El mejor album de HARDCORE de la vida
Lo sería si las baterías no sonaran tan mal, una pena
@@dariofernando5572 la verdad el sonido de la batería me gusta, es bastante particular. Pero para gustos, colores!

Cool man thanx. yeah discogs are cool, but seperate vinyl rules of course. Thx again

If you don't wise up,consider Judge your enemy!
Amazing expect the snare sound!
Let’s Fucking GO!
I love drinking a cold beer and a bubble bath while blasting this. the drumming is tight as shit. love this recordx just not sxe.
Brilliant

Greg from Hungary.
there's a bootleg 10in of this album that may satiate your desire to owning an original. would also cost you far less too.
I think the vocals sound great. The drums are a real problem though.
I like the dodgy drums
BrianBlessedsBumhole i think the drums are great, and the singing sounds like the cookie monster on crack!
Fucking Ill! Love Judge!
NYC sucks but there's no other place I would've rather had been on Sundays back then.

The value of the record is not the music itself but the very small amounts of copies printed. Go read about it on wiki.
That's really really weird, because I don't remember anyone asking for you to give your opinion..
I am not sure if he's trolling or what... with 4000+ lps and still acting like a close-minded 10 years old doesn't look normal to me...
***** He even spelled "thrash" as "trash"... lol

I bought one from some SXE band that toured Germany back in the 90s für 300 DM. Everybody called me stupid.
5400 euros le lpl sur discogs
je le crois pas.
That snare sounds horrible
And thats the reason for the title (chung king can suck it)
I can live with bad production, i heard worse listening to demo tapes all my life (50+)
Yup - mix is HORRIBLE indeed.
not just the drum sound - Sammy was a very poor drummer back then, out of time every now and then and wanting too much while lacking skills
