I have used my metal hoops for quilting blocks without using stabilizers with great success. I use 8 magnets and use one in each corner, then one in middle of each side.
fantastic been thinking of ordering the metal hoop for my Pfaff. and fantastic block. i have the collection and need to get caught up enough to work on something fun
I suppose a little will effect the needle. I change mine regularly. If there is any doubt change it. Buy in bulk so you are more inclined to this often.

I have 2 of these hoops and have also never used sticky stablizer. Always just put stablizer on the top underneath the fabric
As I made and edited this video I could see several other ways to use this hoop. There are so many possibilities out there to discover!!!

I have lots of ideas about how I can use this hoop. There is something magical about it.
I have several of these hoops, but I have never used the sticky stabilizer.
I must try another quilt block using a different stabilizer.

can you get this hoop type for a Janome? Very nice.
I don’t think so. Only Janome owners would know. There have been a lot of new machines and products this year. It’s hard to keep up with them all.
