    Oh My God. You have so lovingly explained such latent subtle yet veritable basics of Music both western and Indian classsical both. I am a die hard fan of great RD Burman and your narration of this song has still kindled my affinity for him. Please accept my due regards and good wishes for such a great interpretation of one of the most classic composition of Indian Film Music. Please continue to make such gripping episodes. Many questions are answered on its own . Thank you so much.

      Thank you very much ♥️♥️🙏🙏😊 In my opinion, Salilda and Panchamda's compositions had too many complexities. The former used harmony in an extraordinary way and the latter exploited rhythm, melody and harmony in all possible ways within time he had at disposal. That movie was full of raag based songs and Panchamda used non classical instruments such as guitar in a totally innovative way. He took Raina beeti jaye to such a level that even Pandit Bhimsenji praised him for that song and other songs from Amar Prem. Hope to cover the analysis for this song in the next 2-3 months🙏

      @@ArunArvindMusic This is such a wonderful masterclass from you Arun ji. I have always seen complex jazz influences in Salil da's compositions, which were much ahead of that time. Would love a detailed video on how these great Indian composers sprinkled some western ideas within the realm of hindustani classical. Also, eagerly awaiting your analysis on Raina Beeti Jaaye. I heard an audio clip of Pancham da saying that he composed that song keeping in mind the time. And if we take it from Madhyam, it moves to Todi while if we take it from Shadaj, it swings to Lalit. Look forward to your valuable insights and analysis Arun ji. 🙏

    • @ArunArvindMusic
      @ArunArvindMusic  Рік тому

      Nice to hear from you again Prashantji ❤️❤️❤️ You are totally right, Todi’s pa if turned to shadaj, will turn into Lalit raag. On the other hand lalits ma, if changed to shadaj, will make it raag todi, in simple terms but all other rules have to be followed carefully. RD himself said these things in meri sangeet yatra.
      Raina beeti is a bit stuck on my side due dependencies on other friends but the mukhada as you know is based on todi. From the word- nindiya na aaye, it gets out of todi😅 and then panchamda takes us back to todi with Raina beeti jaaye . Guitar chords are 7ths in the mukhada with a few inversions, if not played correctly in the exact positions will definitely mess up the song. Anatara takes us into the world of mishra khamaaj - it’s mishra as the melody uses teewra madhyam in between. That’s all for now, but this song is more complex than chingari. Panchamda was very brave to use guitar in this song with chords not sticking to the notes of todi, but still giving us the todi flavor. Will explain fully in the video😊🙏

      Thanks a lot Borade saab🙏🙏❤️❤️😊😊 Duniya mein - is that song which i will always include in my top 3 songs of Panchamda. The way he used his huffing was terrific and irreproducible. Yeh gaana karne ki tamanna to hain, lekin uske vocals aur music bahut kathin hain. Is ya agle saal hamare drummer dost ko leke yeh gaana ka instrumental version aur lesson banayenge👍

    Listening to your explanation of this song is like having a grandmaster explain a chess game: "What was Anand thinking? What was Kasparov thinking?" There is so much more going on under the surface than what we see on the board.
    Amazingly educational for someone like me with zero knowledge of classical music. Thank you, sir!!

      Thank you so much♥️♥️🙏🙏 Indeed what we see is the final result, people took lots of efforts in the past to create a song!!! Having 50-100 people, with those many instruments that need to be tuned perfectly and so many mics, recording live, mixing properly etc - were so many challenges that those people got through with flying colors🙏🙏

      @@ArunArvindMusic Thanks Sir for Profile Pic, I alway get confused when we relate our Eastern Sargam with Western Scales though I'm new to scales perhaps that could be the reason its been 9 months only I am learning Music with Guitar, just to mention I'm 34 Year old BOY 😋 who is always late to everything, I'm happy with my progress I play all normal barre Chords and few 7th and 9ths too Thanks to Tutorials Like this on youtube. My question is ; is it necessary to get pro in eastern scals or its just ok to understand basics only and don't get deep into it like Raags Raagni Surs etc. 2nd Question is what should be the right time to learn Eastern Sargam either learn western Scals and Sargams simultaneously or just focus on western Scales and once get pro in it then jump into Eastern or vice versa. I'm looking for guidance please, One important thing to mention I have interest and I play or try to play mostly Jazz, blues, bluegrass and sometime Linkin Park, white strips, ac/dc, Junoon yeah i'm a kid from 90s .

    Very nice lesson sir.
    But I would like to mention one thing very humbly-
    I know nothing about classical music but spent some time searching the raag on which it is based. I discussed with a classically trained person. The song is not based on bhairavi rather it's on Bilaskhani Todi.
    Will be expecting your reply sir. 🙏

    • @ArunArvindMusic
      @ArunArvindMusic  Рік тому

      Good question! Most of the light indian songs are not long enough to establish a raaga's full essence. Chingari is based on bhairavi as mentioned by many experts from the field of classical music. If I remember correctly, Panchamda himself thought of bhairavi while composing the tune. Bilaskhani todi is part of Bhairavi thaat, has a few similarities, so a few people might reinterpret the same song differently, though the main sur in this raag are dha and ga. There are many other differences as well and it depends on which part sounds like bilaskhani. For that matter the anatara has a portion that can take us to Miya ki todi as I mentioned in the video. But dissecting a song that is already short (from classical music's angle) and assigning different raags to those parts will not be the right approach.
      In short, if you want to dive deeper you can discuss further with your friend to understand why he thinks it's bilaskhani, which parts fall in that raag and then also read about why many others say the song is based in Bhairavi. You will have to spend some time on this👍😊

    Sir. When you watch the video, the song sounds half a note above this. Which is the correct scale?

    • @ArunArvindMusic
      @ArunArvindMusic  Рік тому

      Good question! Most of the times, songs in videos are higher by half a note. This is because the songs went at higher speeds than the original audio songs. There are also audio songs at higher / lower speeds causing differences in keys, this is because the motor speeds of a cassette player, vinyl player etc have had differences.
      For chingari original key is f#. Also played by bhupiji in live concerts with kishoreda in F#. And lastly, the opening piece has to have G open string in F# minor key. Us zamaane mein log capo istemaal nahi karte then.

      @@ArunArvindMusicJust a quick follow up. I stumbled into a live show recording of Kishoreda from LA. The link is as below. Please scroll to 68 minute mark (1 hour 8 minutes). You can see that the scale is half a note higher than your version 🙏

      Phase 1: Theory wise - guitarists should know these chords (major, min, 7, 6, 9, dim, Aug, Sus2, sus4) and for lead: chromatics, major scale, minor scale in 3 positions.
      Phase 2: One doesn't have to know modes, ragas initially. But later, depending on what you like you can go to western or Hindustani. Example if you like Deep purple, then learn western. If you like Kishoreda more, learn Hindustani theory more.
      And this learning continues forever😊👍

    Thanks for this lesson. I enjoyed your “trip” almost making it a one on one lesson. The removal of G almost all together has thrown the possibility of Phrygian out of the window. And how. ❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥👌👌👌🙏🙏🙏🙏
    Secondly, the Bminor has lived so well to the challenge.
    RD was a classical genius but in Indian classical music a Raag is built over hours and purist won’t be happy with the abbreviated versions of popular music using Raaga, hence the explanation in part of RD to keep clear of unnecessary controversy. But make no mistake he knew the key movements (phrases) of all Raaga, he knew how to get that “spell” out of the whole thing.
    The Phrygian thing is now settled, but I would put it in words: in a key Phrygian phrase the reliance is on 1minor 2flatMajor. Here F#min and Gmaj. If that progression is absent the matter is settled it is not Phrygian-plain and simple.
    Now that is about what it is not. So now what is it. The SamWaadi F# and Wadi B with their respective minor did the job perfectly well and to my ear sound PERFECT. This was UNEXPECTED. I was expecting Gmaj for all your key Bminor use but it was not to be and by definition it is then not Phrygian.
    It’s key pakad did you spell out. I will see again and work my way again here.
    The tiwra ma thing in a minor setting adds such a beautiful Indian flavour.
    Thanks for this huge huge exercise. Your sound always always blows my mind and strikes to the heart straight away.
    Great work.

      Thanks doctor Saab for the feedback and opinions♥️♥️♥️😊😊🙏🙏 Yes, the 1st minor, 2nd flat major, 3rd flat major combo is commonly used when songs don't have the bhairavi essence. The wadi is B and samvadi is F#. Usage of C note / teewra madhyam followed by D note, was overwhelming.
      Didn't say this in the video as it is already too long. D7 chord usage has made at least 2 of LoRD's songs popular - Kya yehi Pyar Hain and this one. Separately, western theory cannot keep up with Indian classical in couple of areas. I will cover one of the points in early 2022 - with another bhairavi song. Phyrgian here won't be able to handle a basic concept 😅😅

      Thanks a lot Ashok-ji 🙏🙏♥️♥️♥️ Yes, the chord was C#7, position from the 6th string is as: XX3421. So G# is not played in this position. Then we have to go to D7 and then F#min. Strumming is just the same - single downstroke on the 1st beat. Then from the word neendiya - it goes to F# major etc, you can try this out, should not be tough for you imo👍👍
