I grew up watching the Walton’s and always felt Grandpa Walton was my real life TV Grandpa. Glad you were able to honor Will Geer with your heartwarming vlog. Thanks Jordan 😊❤️

I am an ardent fan of Will Geer. We first met when I was 13 years old and he was performing at the Stratford Theatre in NY State; that was around 1959. I was part of a camp outing and he introduced us to his "garden" of botanicals in Shakespeare's plays; I'll never forget that day. Years later, as an adult, I rediscovered him. Great humanist, environmentalist; political progressive; actor and best of all, "mensch". So glad his last role (Grandpa Walton) was quintessential Will Geer. I pray that the Theatricum Botanicum can survive this horrific pandemic. RIP Will. Carry it forward, Ellen.

Thanks for a wonderful wander through the Theatricum. I haven’t been there since the Pete Seeger Memorial many years ago. We lived in his son Thad’s house in Solana Beach for a number of years through the 1970s when Thad was in LA or traveling. We used to drive up from Encinitas all the time for rock concerts and spent many a night in Woody’s shack. The kitchen was wall-papered with newspaper food recipes, which we assumed were placed there by Woody. It was a beyond wonderful guest cottage! Thad finally sold the SB house and bought a number of acres on the mesa above Topanga, naming the road up to it Will Geer Road. It’s been a good thirty years since we’ve been up there, so I was happy to see the Geer family is going strong. Thanks for the behind the scenes vlog.

Outstanding vlog! To have a fourth generation of the Geer family performing is incredible. Will’s combination of theatre and gardens provides intertwined culture and comfort. Will and Herta made lemonade out of lemons. Their legacy of theatre and botany passed down, especially to children, surpasses any sort of film career either may have had. 🦁❤️🦁

I read that Will Geer used to plant the flowers around the front of the Waltons house. And there are scenes in the show where Will is attending those gardens. Art meets life! Great vlog Jordan.

I've spent many a lovely Summer's evening at the Theatricum Botanicum - seeing Ellen Geer herself performing in Harold and Maude. It's a rather magical place - especially at night, during a performance. Thank you for sharing, and happy to hear you will be taking in a show there yourself - I KNOW you are going to throughly enjoy it!

This is like the best early birthday present. I loved the Waltons when it first aired when I was seven. I live in Virginia and my hubby took me to Schuler Virginia twice to visit the museum and sets from the show. They spoke highly of Will Geer. Thanks Jordan for a special vlog and I can't wait to see the next one.

Good for Will Geer for sticking to his beliefs. I get the feeling Hollywood sometimes will believe what they want to whether it's true or not. What a wonderful vision Will Geer had. I can see why people like to volunteer and help add to this wonderful place. Great vlog!!

I have wanted to see this place for a long time. I knew someone who told me stories about her experience there. She described herself as a former Hippie. She said how nice Will and his wife were and how much they enjoyed talking to the people that visited. She shared that Will's wife made home-made soap that she sold there. I loved Grandpa Walton. It would have been so cool to have experienced a performance while Will and his Wife were there. Thank you, Jordan. Awesome vlog!!!!!!!!!!

Cool idea to do the interactive plays with the kids and people of all ages. Glad the family is carrying on the tradition he started. Thanks for telling the untold stories Jordan. Great Vlog.

I actually got to play there back in 1974 with a band I was in. I drove a Ford van and after the concert, I had to back out (scary). Nobody was really helping me until Ellen Corby (Grandma Walton) walked beside the van and navigated me out. Very cool! Thanks, Jordan for the good memory!

I'm so glad that you explored this location and had full access. There were so many nooks and crannies with hidden treasures! I love how creatively everything is placed using nature and space. It must have been fun climbing all of the stairs not knowing what was at the top. It is such an important place, so I'm so glad that there are others out there that do what they can to keep it alive...including you.

Also, I just found out a couple of weeks ago that my 9 year old Grand Daughter is into Shakespeare ( I didn't know who he was when I was 9), I will definitely tell my Daughter about this place. This is somewhere we could go to as a family!
You did it again Jordan, Thank you!!! ❤️

It looks so beautiful and peaceful and it was so interesting to hear the history about how it was started. I am so pleased that Will's ashes are buried on the property that he loved so much, I bet he is wondering around those gardens now. Great vlog Jordan.

This is so wonderful! I really hope the family turns this into a museum. The gardens are wonderfully put together. I love outdoor theatre I bet the acoustics are great! The best part of the Walton’s were when everyone said ‘goodnight’. It made my heart swell when the family was on the mountain telling their goodbyes to Grandpa. This was well worth the wait Jordan and so happy the family is sticking together for the Art. 🦁❤️

What a magical place!! I never knew much bout Will Geer but what a living legacy his family left for the people! Always loved him in his role as grandpa Walton because his character was so chill and down to earth and
it made me smile to know he was like that in real life. I can imagine that the blacklisting was seriously disruptive to his lifestyle but seems like he and his family had a strong snuff bond to weather the storm. Thank u for another awesome vlog!

Stumbling upon this vlog has made my day! I have been an avid Waltons fan since childhood (Possibly to do with it sharing my surname). When I heard about Will Geer’s Theatricum Botanicum, it was top of my sightseeing list on my November 2017 California trip. I haven’t made it to see a show yet but I’m hoping to this summer & your tour around it is phenomenal to see!

No corporate tycoons taking over and making everything look like a fake amusement theme park. This place is real and thanks to you we can see there is still love of community. Gracias. Thanks so much for this vlog, Jordan. I regret not going there when I lived in L.A. 2003-2010. I grew up in the Valley in the fifties and sixties and it's odd that I never heard about this theatre the entire time I was there! Not even when exploring the canyon during the hippie days. I hope you've discovered Cocina Abuelita, a wonderful Mexican restaurant in Topanga Canyon. It's build in the style of an old, ramshackle wooden house with a gigantic stone fireplace. It's surrounded by many ancient sycamores and is near a creek bed. The food and Margaritas are excellent.

    • @lemorab1
      @lemorab1 5 років тому

Yikes! I just read that Abuelita's is closed! Too bad! Just after my mom died ten years ago, I was out there for lunch and unconsciously sat at "our table" and it suddenly hit me that she wasn't there with me. I burst into tears. The waitress suggested I write mom a note telling her I love and miss her and I put it on their magnificent Day Of The Dead altar in front of the stone fireplace. They were so nice and that place was great. I'm still going to try to get to the Theatricum Botanicum next time I'm down south.
