I think this was more about squad rotation and replying to them which makes their morale go up. I think this happened because he simmed the seasons so he couldn’t organise the squad rotation properly

I personally have faced the Same Problem in FIFA 21, I was managing Manchester City and had bought Best Players, like Haaland, Messi (obviously with the Financial Influx) and yet I came 4th in Premier League, same for the other cups (Lost).... But later I found a fix, If we quick sim a few games mid-season (or the last few games) the AI thinks your team is playing good and helps you lead the league as you sim through the calendar, I am not sure if it goes same for FIFA 22 (Haven't got my one yet) but you always can check.
