Regarding the water jug: here in Southern California, we travel 2 hours out to the desert state park with off road vehicles. We will bring 2 or 3 five gallon bottles just like you have because you have to drink water constantly or you can die. When the men start drinking beer or whiskey, they have to be constantly reminded to drink water.
Did you say Armstrong ? That is my maiden name. Our ancestors emigrated from Ireland in the early 1800s, but we were told they originated in Scotland. I grew up on a farm (where we had cattle, horses, sheep, pigs, ducks and chickens) in Ontario , Canada. We now live just outside the hamlet of Bailieboro in farm country. I love your sheep and your videos. You are so kind to your ewes . ❤️
Found you by way of the Hoof GP. I understand about 30% of what you say but you have such a good energy, that it more than makes up for the remaining 70%.
@@TheSheepGame Who wouldn't love a soft, creamy wool rug??? Get on it Scotties, weavin' is believin'. (Minimalism is what most buyers want these days. Keep 'em plain but well made.)
My dad would tie the fleeces into small bundles tied with twine. We had a wooden box with the sides connected with hinges. The twine would be laid down in grooves in the wood. Put in about 2-3 fleeces, put the box sides up and tie. I don’t know what shearers in the states do now.
Aye the shepherd and his dogs made it look very easy and with very little stress on the sheep, makes such a difference with a great set up and good dogs.
Just wish I was there, Love these videos. You teach me so much at the age of 90 years. We held hand clippers. thank for all you time you do this.. granny90
You left me on the edge of my seat wanting to know what you were us using for combs. 😀 Great video, they really pinked up nice. Love the Huntaways backing the sheep and the whole yard set up with some shade for the main mob.
Great video, really enjoyed it 🙂 Great drone footage as always. My youngest (3) enjoyed watching too and kept shouting hello to you on screen, cause she thought it was Facetime. She loves sheep too.
Cammy here in the us i mostly use burlap woolbags for the fleeces, i have a homemade stand that the bags attach to and fill the bags till they meed to be stepped down until the bag wont take anymore. Further west of us in finewool country the shearing crews use wool presses more than wool stands like i use.
A small request from a curious American Sheep Fan - could you please mention what breeds of sheep are being shorn in each video, or put that info down in the Description/Comments area? For the most part, I imagine you encounter mostly commercial breeds like the Scottish Mule and your Cheviots back home. While they are quite popular on your side of the Pond, we don’t see many over here, where Khatadins, Dorpers, Navaho Churros, and for some reason, Babydoll Southdowns seem predominate. This also applies to the working dog breeds - most Americans are going to see those lovely New Zealand Huntaways as some kind of foxhound! Early in this particular video, you mentioned the previous day had BIG sheep, but left us in suspense trying to figure out if they were tall, or heavy, or some combination of both. Sheep Fans watch, because we are curious. You can use your videos to help us understand a bit more about sheep farming and sheep care, which is very different from Sandy Brock’s all indoor flock that has 3 lambing periods a year!
Top man! I mentioned in a comment about what gear you used in a previous video but this was spot on. I’m green as grass in this game and just little explanatory bits and your thoughts on gear helps a load. Even the husbandry bits you do. Spot on mate! If you’re ever in North Yorkshire give me a shout I’ll grab you a beer!
Thanks Gabrielle, as Robbie from Shearing School has commented they are huntaways. Meg has been working with Lizzy for most of the summer, initially some dogs find it hard to work for someone else but Lizzy has been pleased with how Meg has now begun to trust and respect her and they have been able to get the sheep work done with the help of Skye and Fern in her early learning stages.
Hope I don’t get to wordy here. So last Saturday I was doing house work, just cracking on and came to a dead stop while running the vacuum. My brain said “huh wonder where Camy has been, haven’t seen and videos come through lately.” Well here you are. Glad all is well mate. Don’t work yourself to death. Karen.
Great video Cammy...Huntaways...I have never heard of that breed before...they seem a great matched pair...very nimble...how's Lizzy doing?...when's the wee one due?...love from Perthshire.
Thanks, yes the huntaways bring a different element to moving the sheep and are a great help in moving big groups of sheep. Lizzy is doing great, baby due 6th September so not long now!
Is there much difference between shearing polled and horned sheep? It would seem like you might need to be more mindful of the horns. I am just getting started in sheep so still learning.
Sometimes if the horns are tight to the face it can be a little tricky getting in and around the head but apart from a few extra bruises they shear just the same.
If you are going to have two there to use its best to use both of them equally and then they wear down evenly with the cutters you are using. In NZ and AUS, where they stick to 2 hour runs its time efficient to have to handpieces set up where you can just swap handpieces after an hour and not waste time changing a comb. Also great to have a spare as not much you could do if your handpiece broke.
@@TheSheepGame make the most of it. Most people don’t have gumption or the opportunity to do that! Great to be home when your little one comes along as well. Thx

@@TheSheepGame yeah needs must, I’ve got down to using unground cutters in the last run on Merino wethers with fleeces filled with sand, used all my gear, nowhere to grind in the shed, just wash a few cutters and bang them on, change cutters after every couple of sheep, Do you still want to come to NZ😂😂😂😂😂
Fluffy yet groomed, Cammy's hairstyle perfect today🎉

Hi Cammy I hope your doing well. I knit and crochet so I am always impressed at the quantity of wool that you end up with.
Yes I'm all good after a busy summer shearing, plenty of wool coming off the sheep shame it's not worth anything just now
Why is the wool not worth anything right now? Cheers from Texas

It is a great bit of the country and plenty of sheep about to shear in some quite big mobs which is good.
Just love to watch Cammy and his shearing crew. Great contents. Keep up the good work.

Beautiful sheep! My shearer nearly popped a hernia when he sat up my 174 kilo ram! I’m too old to do the big boys but still do my lambs.

You've probably answered this a hundred times, but what's the usual time it takes you to shear a sheep? And how many do you typically do in an hour?

Were those foxhounds barking at the sheep there? Bet the sheep were annoyed by that!

When is the shance video gonna come out?
It won't be the next video as I do have a few others for editing but should be out in the next few weeks.
i know it sounds a bit like a stupid question but how do they deal with the sun after the fleece is taken off. Do they get sun burn?
They do still have a small amount of wool covering their skin so they don't get burnt and feel a lot cooler after the fleece is off.

Yeah two huntaways working the pens
How many hours do you shear for on an average day and how many an hour do you personally shear on average?
Be shearing for 7-8 hours a day and would average 40-50 sheep an hour

Do you ever put up shelter from the sun? I don't think our shearers would ever put up with shearing all day in the hot sun.
