Nice to hear a good story.
    Nice to see craftsmanship.
Nice to see good natured military comradery.
Nice to see two good Americans.
We Americans are so much better than the hate infested trash we are seeing in the media.
Thank you for the good story.

This creative project helps put, "The Long View" that President Carter brought to his Presidency into a specific process that stands as a reference for President Carter's vision over time: A guitar made from the tree that he planted years ago on his farm. It is great to see the photo of him playing this guitar on his front porch. Thanks to Jason for his excellent work.

I lived in Farmington, New Mexico, in the early 1970s. There is a well-known fly fishing stretch of the San Juan River called the Quality Waters near Farmington. Friends and I were fishing there when 2 official looking vehicles pulled up and several men stepped out of them. They were clearly not from the area. One of the men walked deliberately to us and, in a very direct voice, told us to move farther downstream. We were teenagers at the time and had just burned some cannabis and wanted no trouble, so we gathered our takle and moved. While gathering our things, another of the men wearing hip waders approached us and in a calm voice with an accent not from the area, asked us if we were having a good time. We said yes and moved far downstream. Years later, while watching the evening news, a clip came on about the presidential elections. It was Jimmy Carter giving a speech . Low and be hold it was the man we had met that day on the San Juan River in New Mexico. Those years earlier, I met the future president of the US. Hearing about President Carter passing brought back memories of that day on that river. I got a bit choked up, knowing of his passing.

Uplifting story to start the year.
I stopped watching the "news" years ago because it's filled with things I just don't want to hear.
The events of violence and crime are the exceptions of daily life.
Jason and people like him are those who help mankind every day. .

I got to attend one of his Sunday School classes a few years ago.
I knew he couldn't do them forever and I wanted to experience that national treasure part of his life.
As far as I know, he's the only president that ever taught Sunday school on a regular basis after his presidency.
A humility unmatched, but highly respected by millions.

COOL GUITAR!!! We'll miss you Jimmy!!!
The wood is actually PAULOWNIA, (Pow-low-nee-a), and is a very nice tonewood. It's used in traditional Asian instruments.
My wife and I have a couple of hand made Paulownia guitars that rival any acoustic that I've ever played (and that's a LOT of guitars!).
After playing guitars in a high end guitar store, we tried hers, and bought it on the spot. I later sold my wonderful James Goodall guitar and bought another Paulownia guitar made by the same guy (Tony Yamamoto).
In researching guitars made of Paulownia, the ONLY other acoustic I could find online besides Yamamoto guitars was , yep! Jimmy Carter's guitar!!
I really hope that it now goes to someone who will appreciate it!

    • @powerinformation
      @powerinformation 16 днів тому +1

I was looking for someone saying something about paulownia, it’s almost like balsa wood the luthier must have used it in a really clever way (extra bracing or veneers) it’s incredibly soft and thin sheets of it for the soundboard would definitely need some clever engineering to work - I imagine a thick coat of poly as well?

Great job Jason. As a woodworker I am very impressed and a little jealous you got to work on such an awesome project. Curious how the guitar sounded and the wood type. Oh yeah, and you may need to seek professional intervention on your chisel habit. 🤣 Yes a woodworker can never have enough clamps, but dang, the thought of having to sharpen all those chisels gave me a bit of anxiety.

Worth more than words can say
President Carter guided America through tough political and global times in our new fiat economy and paid the price as people talk about how bad his presidency was. I believe he made hard choices that he thought was right for the nation and never looked for credit but was willing to take the blame.

Resided over massive unemployment, inflation, gas shortages, the highest interest rates the country has ever seen. I have to say, that was a little weird to put "beat navy" on the back of the guitar...
