    Excellent! It looks like you are getting a lot of things figured out. The more I see of this radio, the more I want it.

    I'm loving this radio more every day. Glad I finally got one. I am running the latest beta firmware and have successfully digi'd through the International Space Station via APRS. That was a cool moment!

    I contacted VGC last week and they said they were planning to add the KISS TNC functionality to the VR-N7500 mobile. They were still working on cleaning up all the bugs, but it is in the works. This will be SUPER useful on an N7500 mobile.

      @@KM4ACKCan you imagine bluetooth kiss tnc connection to a N7500 and run a digipeater application on the PC or a pi. Talk about a perfect turnkey digipeater setup. Hook up power and an antenna and you are on the air.

    Jason, thanks a lot for clearing the way for all uf us. Nice to see that APRS seems to be picking steam again,indeed really useful ancient digital mode. Regards from Mexico.

    Nice video Jason! I have been following the VGC videos. I was successful send and receiving Winlink email through WOAD using the new firmware. My next experiment will be with Radio Mail. Thanks for the videos. 73

    one thing to note, the connection refused can also be because there is a stale rfcomm process running. killing that and rebooting the radio should work. i've had a similar thing with other bluetooth devices. you can also ty doing "rfcomm release x" where x is the device number you put in there (/dev/xxxxxx)

    I suspect that your connection failures may be due to the pairing mode timeout on the N76. Mine goes out of pairing mode after 1 minute. (It unchecks pairing, gives a low beep , and stops flashing red/green.)
    Below is the beginning of a scrip that minimizes the time between hcitool returning and the connection. You run it as root so that you can get the password typing out of the way before you enable pairing. I suppose I could make it setuid root, but the right thing is probably a daemon that sits looking for the device and connects. Food for thought.
    #!/usr/bin/env bash
    h=( `hcitool scan | grep VR-N76` )
    if [ "VR-N76" == ${h[1]} ]; then
    addr=${h[0]}
    rfcomm connect /dev/rfcomm0 $addr 1
    else
    echo "Nope!"
    fi

    Is this the radio to have, if it's the only radio to replace Baofengs?

      It's a good radio for the money. If they fix a few bugs in the firmware, it has the potential to be a great radio.

    This HT sounds like a "must buy." How readable is the color display in normal and sunny daylight conditions? I have been terribly disappointed with color displays in this regard to the point that one HT now serves as a very expensive paperweight on my desk. Totally unfit for purpose.
