He could mesmerize like no one else when he read stories. I was so very lucky to have been "read to" by him many times when I attended his shows. He was a true Candadian/American treasure.
i wish i had met you Mr JF. your portrayal of the tormented lonely vampire, Barnabas Collins is one that i can truly relate too. i felt like crying when i heard that you passed away. i still feel like crying. we will meet in Heaven i'm sure. God bless you always & forever.
While teaching Language Arts for 7th graders, we had the Tell Tale Heart in our literature book. I had seen Jonathan on Facebook and texted him about the video where he did the monologue of the Tell Tale Heart. I was trying to find the DVD. He was very kind and posted that monologue and it was great to watch him dressed in black and simple lighting. Sitting backwards in a wooden chair. That dark brown hair of his, his brown eyes. And he recited the piece like listening to a friend tell a story. It was great. Never did get the DVD but that one treat was wonderful and well remembered. So anytime I hear him do it I pause to listen.
To my recollection, it was also three days after the movie with Johnny Depp premiered. I didn't watch it, because I felt like they went too much towards the campy end of it and made it comedic instead of taking it seriously. I miss Jonathan so much and I'm sorry I never met him in person. So thankful for finding this performance of him reading Poe, who I also love. May he rest easy.
