@@mattialonghin_mr.l857 yep it’s a Stranded stripped down version of the Armadillo, so it’s a stranded vehicle, hence why I didn’t mention it in this video
Fun fact, the reason why there's almost no fixed wing aircraft or jets within the COG is because one general in the army basically politicked his way to the top by continuously cutting the budget of the Air Force and giving it to the army, so that he could throw almost all of it into the army's various helicopter programs, most of which were run. by one singular company. By the time that general retired from service, he automatically got a really high paying job within said helicopter company, where he basically did nothing.
"The backbone of military aviation will always be rotary, and tactical airpower must remain in the hands of ground commanders. Fixed-wing costs too much to do too little-I see no reason to waste any more taxpayers’ money on the Petrel strike-fighter program when we could spend that on helicopter-launched missile systems. These birds represent better value and can do everything we need, and do it better in most cases-transport, combat, observation, maritime, and special mission. We do not need to fragment our defense strategy by creating a separate air force." -Gen. Jod Lombard, giving evidence to the COG Defense Committee on the lack of need to create a separate air force and expand fixed-wing procurement, two years before accepting a seat on the board of Helicopter Manufacturer Aiglar
Always wondered how Scorge cut a tank in half with a blade that's a generous two feet long at most and the tank chassis is maybe seven to ten feet wide. Pretty impressive...
Tbh that sounds like BS. In the novels, Centaurs were quite powerful. In the Slab, we can read that a single shot from Centaur basically destroyed a Corpser (blowing his legs off), whereas in the games, Centaurs (and any COG vehicles) seem fairly weak. Game is a game though.
I think if they ever wanted to do a Pendulums wars prequel it should be a vehicle based RTS, COG and UIR have such great vehicles that never get the spotlight
One thing that comes to mind in Gears of War, or at the very least makes sense to me, is that Gears of War takes place in a world where technology advanced far beyond that which was present during the First World War, but military doctrines stagnated. In other words, the militaries of Sera never outgrew the mindset of attrition warfare. This is evident in both the COG and the UIR's preference for infantry over all other combat arms, the complete lack of combined arms doctrine, and overall lack of innovation on the tactical and strategic front. Additionally, the armor that individual Gears and Indies wear is evidence of this. Their mindsets seem to prefer packing as much armor as is possible in individual soldiers, with the intent that they stay in static positions and trade blows with the enemy. In the modern era, fire and maneuver is key to survival in close combat, but in Marcus' words (and world) it's "take cover or die". The COG and UIR seem to prefer that their soldiers be able to tank as many hits as possible, rather than have full mobility to seize the battle space. TL;DR the Gears of War world takes place in an era where technology vastly outpaced tactical doctrine and strategic thinkers never transitioned from attrition warfare to maneuver warfare. They're 22nd century men with a 20th century mindset.
I just noticed that we've never seen the cog use fighter jets in the games that is. I'm pretty sure in the comics they show them. In the games they just use pure helicopters. 😆
In the first book they used them for bombing runs. But in the Anvil Gate book it’s stated that the COG tried to faze them out because they thought helicopters were the way to go, but Adam Fenix changed that and brought back fixed wing aircraft for support and attack purposes.
There’s a really cool but easily missable blurb in one of the gears novels that basically says a general who was backed by the helicopter companies forced all of the $ and research to go towards army controlled helicopters and not Air Force jets. The general gets a high placing job with the helicopter company after retiring lol.
Yeah there weren't many fixed wing aircraft in the COG arsenal. The stated reason was that helos and Ravens were able to perform the same tasks as well as a greater variety of them over fixed wings. But in all likelihood, the real reason was graft though it was a pretty big graft since a whole warship was designed around solely supporting Ravens.
The King Raven that was used to carry the Light Mass Bomb, is a "Tandem/Co-Axial Rotor system". Which is really a strange combination. It's like taking a CH-47 Chinooks main frame, & merging it with a Ka-52 rotor system. Crazy, but majority of everything on Sera (Gears of War universe) is already crazy.
Limited effectiveness on an enemy that’s underground. I’m sure they had some, but since fights came randomly from underground and aircraft were no doubt expensive, they probably thought it wasn’t worth the effort to keep making them.
Couple of things I remember seeing but no info shows up about. One was there were many large tonnage shipwrecks with profiles matching battleships during the submarine mission in GoW3. In Judgement there was also a multiplayer map that had vehicles that looked like some sort of MRAP.
I always imagine that the vehicles "and soldiers itself" are that massive in the gears of war universe because the planet its really different to earth. Like I mean, the cristal ice rain from gears 2 on the new hope facility was something more or less usuall before the locust war. So maybe with that crazy environment and also crazy landscapes, with gigantic oceans or gigantic deserts or mountain ranges that dwarf the everest.... logically dudes and vehicles are bigger xD. And also if you think on it has sense to have a bigger vehicle to carry maybe X2 of rations and extra equipment in case of a breakdown, wich is something that wheeled vehicles had on their side as a good thing contrary to tracked vehicles. I mean tracked vehicles are sturdy but for example the german Sdkfz halftracks needed maintenance and repairs after each long run because metal tracks needed oil and to adjust the track links pegs. Wich is a thing that american halftracks didn't because the tracks where made out from a continuous rubber band. So yep some people hated the cog designs and the centaur but I think that for the seran necessities vs human wars and locus has sense both in the way of logistics and warfare. But have to say that I really preffer the old designs like the regular raven than the new cog raven wich look thicc and boxy.
There will never be a video game vehicle cooler than the king raven. Even the name is badass. Ok, maybe the pelican comes close, but still the raven takes this one
its weird that in the books, Dizzys rig was able to with stand landmines. hell they even used it for mine clearing at Vectes to clear Stranded IEDs in the ANVIL GATE book.
To be more thourough, the Centaur shouldn't be classified as a "Tank". It's more of an IFV - Infantry Fighting Vehicle. It's wheels have "high ground pressure", meaning that the main hull has the entirety weight point on the wheels that is touching the ground. In other words, this vehicle would sink into the grounf, if traversing through a wetland or muddy terrain. A true tank uses caterpillar tracks, which is spread out over a larger distance.
I hope to see what if the pendulum wars didn't end and kept going for another six weeks. This could have had happen say both the UIR and COG managed to build the Hammer of Dawn. Both factions first target a military base of importance. Nether side surrenders or request a cease fire. And then both use rhe hammer of dawn orbital weapons on a single city of importance on both sides. Maybe the causes a higher escalation of the pendulum wars and either both sides keep using the hammer of dawn as a weapon nearly wiping each other out in time for E Day. Or both sides keep fighting the pendulum war but both the uir and cog agree not to use the hammer of dawn on.each other ad they see the risk they wipe each other out. Another possibility is what if the UIR made the hammer of dawn in time to use it against the cog.
if UIR made the HOD before COG, then the roles would be reversed. Humanity would fall faster though, as UIR doesn't have a Jacinto Plateau of their own. If E-Day happened during the Pendulum Wars, humanity would stand a better chance. One of the reasons why E-Day was so disastrous, was that tons of soldiers were on leaves. This wouldn't be the case if war was still ongoing.
There was an actual aircraft carrier in Judgement but it’s blown in half, by what I don’t know. But the COG navy wasn’t a push over during the pendulum wars that’s for sure
