RBR has been surfing on Max for too long. They can get away with undrivable cars because "oh, Max can manage it". There will come a time, though, when even Max will need some drivability for himself, and it seems like it's fast approaching. This kind of philosophy will never help Perez, a guy who made a career out of being Mr Consistency, but who actually needs room to correct his own mistakes. If any mistake throws him out of the track, he never gets the chance to get a good start to his improvement loop. Leclerc improves until he makes a mistake, and can make the same mistake several times until he finds the limit. Perez makes a mistake and then hardly ever makes it again. Now that the car is actually on the edge, RBR needs someone who gets it mostly right the first time.
I really think redbull will suffer big time in the constructors if they keep Perez. I’m sure that if the grid stays competitive they could potentially drop down to 3rd in the constructors or at the very least 2nd.
I dont care really who goes where as long as Lawson gets on the grid. Now that Piastri is in Lawson is the next most deserving. And god did he do good last year. Super sub for sure.
Poor Checo got t-boned into the wall by Kevin "overtake for 0 points or death" Magnussen, that really wasn't on him :( Also, that Helmut Sharko at 5:43 is glorious.
Perhaps they are holding on to Perez because of the fear Max leaving. If Max leaves, they might want at least one driver who is a constant feedback regarding the car and its changes.
I’m always going to hope Daniel makes it back to RB, but I know that’s not happening. Sainz makes the most sense, and I definitely wouldn’t be angry with that outcome. Though it sounds like they’re going to re-sign Perez, which I think is a very bad idea.
We will know very soon about the intentions of Sainz. He has until the end of the week to accept Audi’s offer, and the only reason he will not do that and have the announcement made is if Red Bull Racing or Mercedes-AMG offer him a better deal. My bet is he goes with Audi and renewing Perez remains the best available option for Red Bull Racing.
If Max leaves, I'd put Albon on that list. He was doing a great job in the sim in Max's first WDC winning car, so probably understands it better than anyone who isn't Perez
The direction that James Vowles is leading Williams in is going to make that a very good place for Albon to stay and be part of the project. I can’t see him shifting to either RBR or VCARB.
@@mashy0001 I completely agree with your thoughts on James Vowles, and have complete confidence he’ll do great things for Williams. You're becoming a true F1 youtuber, dropping this on the day there are multiple reports he is getting re-signed. Anyway I like Checo but he clearly was better suited to the top of the midfield than the front. Horner liking him, his sponsors and stability seem the main reasons to keep him for now.
I think Perez is getting re-signed eith Max's insistence. I reckon Max has some Schumacher-esque clauses in his contract that his teammate cant compete with him.
Be that as it may. The fact is that most other top drivers are locked into contracts until the end of 2025. Hamilton and Leclerc at Ferrari, Russell at Mercedes, Norris and Piastri at McLaren, Alonso at Aston Martin. Now, it could be that Alonso offered his services to Red Bull, but they refused him due to said clause. That leaves Sainz, whom he's already beaten at Toro Rosso, despite Sainz having much more experience in Junior Formulae, including Formula Renault 3.5, Daniel Ricciardo, whom he's already beaten and has been slapped by both Norris and Yuki in the past 4 years, Gasly and Albon, both of whom he has beaten at Red Bull, Yuki, who's a bit of a dark horse, but at best level with Gasly and finally, Ocon, who was beaten by Perez. And so we've come full circle. Lawson has only done a few races last year and looking at how things went with Gasly and Albon, that's not a smart bet either.
If Verstappen ends up leaving RBR, the situation reminds me of Benetton in 1995/1996. A winning combination shattering, and the next drivers will find the "Verstappen design" probably hard to master. Regarding Perez, I'm going with the boring option and think he will continue with RBR for another year at least.
For me, it's gotta be Tsunoda & Lawson. Tsunoda is FAAAAAST. Really underrated driver. And people calling him toxic may have missed that half the grid is toxic af, lol
Checo is a great #2 driver. He’s a solid performer (yes, I agree he’s not brilliant) who brings home a good number of points and podiums for the team, he has huge appeal in a number of massive markets where neither Max or any of the other major teams’ drivers do, and he works well within the team and has played a major part in car development. Unless they manage to offer a better deal to Sainz than Audi can offer, renewing with Perez is the best option. Promoting Ricciardo is a ridiculous idea. He’s not even half the driver he used to be, and even in his prime days at Red Bull he still wasn’t as good as Perez has been for them.
L take, Daniel was never driving the top car, yet he's had more wins and more podiums for RB than Checo who has been driving championship winning cars from the start
I don't think it will happen. Sergio brings $50+ million worth of sponsorship deals, and might even sell more merch than Verstappen. Is all of that worth losing to gain $10-20 million in constructors championship prize money? Also consider that either way, they will probably still win the WDC.
1 problem with perez that will ruin any youtubers narrative. What he lacks in performance, he makes up for 5 fold in revenue. I don't think there is a driver that brings in more money than he does.
