Bought an 08 GL550 5 years ago when my daughter was born and it has been an awesome family hauler since. Biggest mistake people make with any used euro car is buying the cheapest unit with no maintenance history. If you have to go to a dealer for every small item that comes up these cars are not for you because labour costs will add up quickly. I'm not a mechanic by any means but I have been able to DIY pretty much every issue I've had with it. Like you mentioned you can find everything these days on youtube/forums and order quality parts from companies like fcpeuro which significantly reduce owner ship costs.
I have 08 mb gl450 to be honest can’t complain about it I love it so much , I haven’t any mayor problem with , yeah of course I don’t have as much power as u do on ur 550, but I’m happy with mine🤘🏽
I have a 2012 GL550, removed the Resonator and the mufflers and had an x-pipe installed and it freaking rocks!!! It passes smog in CA. Highly recommend it. Sounds amazing!!!
We have had one when we lived in the US from 2017 to 2020 and it was super reliable aside from the air suspension. The build quality is not as good as on the German cars (the real ones actually made in Germany), but interior was way nicer than on all US cars from the time. Air suspension is not a big deal, either, as the parts are not super expensive and are actually comparatively easy to change on the GL. In the rear it literally takes only half an hour!
I use the screen in my vehicle all the time. I like a big screen that's easy to read, plus I don't like having everything tied to my phone. I don't even use my phone for music because I have a bunch of my favorite songs saved on a thumb drive that I have plugged into the USB port. Works like a charm!
Tbh, I don’t understand why anyone would ever consider buying one because my parents have a 2007 GL450 and it rides horrible, especially for long drives
They arent called the Alabama $hitbox for no reason! If mine didn't depreciate so much, Id have gotten rid of it several thousands of dollars and many busted knuckles ago! The worst!
@@TheWarback1 American labor is way more expensive . Parts are cost more here as well. There are so many fake after marker parts available in Asia plus cheap labor.
Yes and no. This is way more solid, many more options, faster. But with the Yukon I knew it would never leave me stranded, don’t have the same trust with the GL
I have an 08 GL550 and a 07 Suburban 2500 (basically identical to a Yukon) and the GL is better in every way. The only thing we use the Suburban for is remote camping trips. 16" tires like the dirt a bit better then the 21s 😅
Got 270k miles on my gl450 theyre sweet lol

It really depends on how the previous owner maintained the vehicle
That’s the key !!!
Hoovie was complaining about the diesel model in particular. I don't think the gas GL had half the problems that the diesels did

There are coli over struts available for many air suspension vehicles. SUV looks sharp.
Lol, buy a luxury vehicle just to ruin the suspension. SMAHT

I been looking at dime GL550?
It's an awesome suv to own especially if you are a DIY guy
What’s the update?
Tbh, I don’t understand why anyone would ever consider buying one because my parents have a 2007 GL450 and it rides horrible, especially for long drives
Maybe that's the reason you riding in it ,not driving it.Driving it firsthand is a different experience.
@ I’ve driven it before and it drives alright
@@omarzowila I thought you said it rides horrible lol
@ it’s both
@@omarzowila I think they ride great with the air suspension functioning properly. Maybe yours has an issue or it’s been converted to coils
Still have it? Looking to get one
@@josearroyo4575 I sold it and got a silver one. Uploading a new vid now
What year is this? And are you still loving this car?
It’s a 2009. Yes great car, like a tank

Had for over a year now, things a tank drives amazing
@@hammerdownfilm377I agree lol I have 270k miles on my 08
I am going to bet that there been a LOT of money spent on repairs in the past on this
You would be correct

A year and a half and 20k miles later I love it
I like the older screens better because my Lincoln everything is in the screen and it SUCKS
Need an update video
You are screwed, I have one and it’s alwYs breaking, luckily I can fix it myself
Been ok so far 🤷♂️ 140k
its interesting that only americans complain about german cars not being reliable
@@TheWarback1 Thats not true....there are several videos from the UK that are making the same complaints

Yukon better

I once tried to buy a Yukon and they are clearly all totally worn out at an age and mileage where the GL interiors still pretty much look like new.
