I always wait for new announcements from you. Very informative and useful. Thanks @Fernanda.
does the ames test also account for possible different routes of metabolism to other mutagenic compounds in human bodies?
Hi, yes, the Ames test when done according to the OECD guideline 471 needs to be done with metabolic activation, which means the test is done adding liver extract containing those enzymes responsible for the metabolism of the tested compound, to simulate what would happen in the human body. In many cases the compound itself is not mutagenic but its metabolite is, which is why these conditions are recommended for the Ames test.
Can zinc diethyldithiocarbamate (ZDEC) in rubber products produce nitrosamines when rubber vulcanization is performed at 150 degrees Celsius for 20 minutes in a hot air oven?
It's easy to understand visually, especially for the steric hindrance of the nitrosamine's metabolism. Good job!!
Thank you!
