Welcome back. Some suprises in there. Personally I wouldnt have 'Flowers' as high as that ;-). Cant believe that you diss * Warrior *. Always thought it was one of the best songs of the McGeoch era myself; regularly played live, so think they agree with me. I agree with you on the rest of *9*. Always thought * Happy * was their most underated album.
I love Flowers, can easily see why some others might not though! I don't like Warrior at all really 😅 but I suppose I'm not the only member of the audience, if they wanna play it they will! Happy is a great album, I think That What Is Not is their most underrated though personally but both are good!
It's Eliot Again...Coming out this week is Leftism by Leftfield on color vinyl with the track "OPEN UP" featuring John Lydon. I recommend it. It's worth picking up!
@@hiddenimagelimited Keith, Atkins and Lydon were PiL... Plus the 80s were a rough decade, it started amazing and ended with dayglo parachute pants and really overproduced atrocious music in most genres...84 is a bit of a cutoff date for me
Yeah you're right, Wobble and Pete Jones were their 2 best bassists too in my opinion, though I'll admit I quite like the current lineup, I think it's the second best after the original era As for the 80s, I agree, I quite like some music from that period but a lot of it is just overproduced garbage and morons overusing synths and drum machines... However in America we had the whole Noise Rock scene at that time with stuff like Big Black and Jesus Lizard (though I guess that was the 90s too) and that stuff was brilliant
I watched them sometime in *edit :"October " last year ...surprisingly entertaining still. The latest album actually been growing on me after that performance.
Yeah they're for sure still a really good band, I've only ever seen them once back in 2022 unfortunately but I'd love to see em again! Not sure why the new one didn't click with me, I guess I just expected a lot given the previous 2 albums but it's still decent
Hey dude! You’re such a decent critic and major fan of PiL. I’ve seen them live twice, in 1986 & just last year. Love your enthusiasm & we might agree that Keith Levine provided them with their best work. Poptones. Exceptional
Ahh 1986 must've been a cool gig to see! Yes Levene is my favourite guitarist, he will be missed for sure, Poptones is certainly exceptional! Thank you for the kind words
PiL related songs worth mentioning... Betrayl - The Whole Album by Jah Wobble, Steel Leg vs. The Electric Dread EP, Dreadlock Don't Deal in Wedlock - Jah Wobble 12", One of The Lads by 4 BE 2(Lydon Brothers), and Anything by Damage Manual with Martin Atkins and Jah Wobble!....And World Destruction by Timezone Featuring Afrika Baambata and John Lydon, The Animal Speaks by Golden Palominos with John Lydon & Jack Bruce.
I quite liked The Do That lol, it really was just a fun little ditty. I actually thought the singles were pretty good and some of the album tracks paled in comparison when I first listened to End of World. On later listens I gained more appreciation for those tracks though, especially Walls and Strange
I guess I'm the other way round, cause I really liked Walls and Strange even on first listen, but I will say I don't get the autotune on Lydon's vocals on Strange... I also really liked North West Passage it sounds like something from Slint's first album Tweez!
Hi. It's Eliot Wien from NYC! JAH WOBBLE is playing the Second Edition(Metal Box) album at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, New York on Wednesday, July 24, 2024. I WILL MOST CERTAINLY BE THERE!!!! I saw Jah Wobble with PiL on the Second Edition Tour at The Palladium in NYC. AMAZING SHOW!!! John Lydon picked people from the audience and set them up on stage like a choir, and let them sing. At the end of the show John Lydon left the stage and never came back, and never told the band! He jumped into a cab and left the venue. But please note, he performed the whole show. We just didn't get an encore. HaHaHa...Ever get the feeling you've been cheated.....Goodnight!
That's a terrific story, you're very fortunate to have been able to witness that era of the band, I would've bloody loved to! I haven't seen Jah Wobble either yet but he sometimes plays at Leeds near where I live, haha goodnight!
Just before watching this I was thinking about Johns voice and how it's gone down and his register is now maybe treble against his earlier alto screech I'm not keen on this baritone/alto he uses, it's more a live thing and less so on record to me
Yeah I know exactly what you mean, it is odd but I don't mind it I suppose, I prefer it to how he sounded on This Is What You Want and Live In Tokyo sorta era cause by that point his whine was really annoying to me. Can't beat his early vocals though, Nevermind The Bollocks - Flowers Of Romance are all awesome vocally
@@hiddenimagelimited totally.. for me, if he started doing spoken word similar to later Tom Waits/ Viv Stanshall I'd be really interested cos he still has the ideas but the voice is getting.. ridiculous to me Cheers
Hi. It's Eliot from NYC. LOW LIFE would have been a great follow up single to PUBLIC IMAGE!! That track is CLASSIC PIL!!!!
You're right, I think that with better production Religion II could've been a great single too with the more in your face lyrics and guitar!
Glad to see you back!
When is the Commercial Zone reaction/review coming?
Hey, you too my friend! That reaction is lost, I will have to redo it so I might be able to on Monday all being well :)
Interesting video! My band Spetälska will release our debut album next month, we are partly inspired by early Pil.
Excellent!! I'm very interested 😎

Well Done. Keith's favorite album was Commercial Zone (white cover was released by Keith, black cover by Branson)
Oh yes, he loved that record! It is fantastic

Yeah I've heard that song, not heard the full album though, PiL still play it live to this day!
Metal Box, Flowers, Commercial Zone, First Issue, This Is What You Want...i maybe like enough out of everything later to fill an EP
The first 3 are certainly something special, I do like pretty much everything they've done but yeah I understand what you're saying

FYI.....The music from Jah Wobbles BETRAYL Album mostly come from PiL's SECOND EDITION - METAL BOX!
Yes I own that album, I think it's very cool! Pineapple is really cool, sounds like it would've had a huge influence on Les Claypool

Oh yeah, and if you haven't heard Murder Global: Killer In The Crowd by Keith Levene yet then definitely check that out, it's a great EP!

Yeah I do agree that would be interesting, that's kinda what he does on Dirty Murky Bell and why I said it reminds me of Ian Dury
Funny how you dislike all the tracks that are generally my favourites. Interesting ranking
Which ones!
@@hiddenimagelimited I love Open and Revolving and FFF. This is not a love song also. Open and Revolving would probably be in my top 5.
