    He is exactly the same way my puppy was! We got an E-collar for him. It was completely night and day. He is the best walker now!

    The funniest comment I have ever heard from a dog trainer was your comment "if your not comfortable with a pinch collar or a e-collar, get a bunny! I had to stop the vid until I stopped laughing. Your the best or at least the funniest.

    If you put in the time and proper training with firm commands and rewards and love GS's can be the best thing you could ever get. Especially if you have a family and kids. Living breathing cuddly loving bullet that will do anything to protect your kids in the yard.

    “Buy a Bunny”….hahahahahahah. You are so funny! We have a DDR Shepherd and she is a lot like Gunny. Just ordered the prong collar, Katie’s buckle, told her how we got to her shop. My husband is ex law enforcement and he thinks you’re a hoot too.. Good job!

    … Gunnie/Gunny is a handful 😆 but such a great example of how a simple tool can put more control on the handlers side. It proves prong collars don’t hurt or make a dog frightened. 🙄 The results are all positive. 🐶 🍂 Stay safe from your weather. 💨

    Another great video!
    If you can, and think it's an interesting topic, can you talk about behavior differences between male and female gsd?
    And also when would you advise for animals to be left intact, and when they should be neutered or spayed. I notice most police dogs are intact, and are normally male. But I don't know if it's just because most police officers are male and most men prefer a intact male dog.

    • @primalcritters
      @primalcritters 2 роки тому +3

      Most working dogs are intact because neutering them can kill their Drive. Neutering them can also lead to behavioral issues and Joint issues. But above all, you want an intact dominant male for a police dog that has great Handler responsiveness and neutering them will change that. Also, many police dogs are used for breeding as well so they must sire litters and be intact. As for the differences? Male dogs are usually a little harder to deal with in terms of handling them around others but they are generally more laid-back and sweet with the family. Female dogs can be a little more b***** at times. But there are exceptions to every Rule and and you can find a really sweet female and a b**** male or vice versa. Generally speaking I prefer males but I've had some great females. But most people prefer male for this reason. They are generally more easy-going. Oh yeah, but if you want to neuter your female or male, wait until they're fully grown. Definitely with males there more prone to joint issues if they are neutered too soon and females the only benefit of Spain them is avoiding cancer risk. I think it's around a year-and-a-half that you want to wait, but most German Shepherds aren't fully grown until 3 years old.. you basically want to wait until the growth plates close

    My dad's German shepherd got his manners from his other dog..funny thing is that he is the younger of the two and used to get bullied by the German Shep. The older and bigger he got the less and less it happened. He was the chill dog, not as much energy, but he knows when to let the shep. not to play too much. They are good with kids tho.

    Excellent video my Czech sable coming from a gd breeder with gd genetics is super high drive, amazing nose, defense drive, social with people and other dogs, he is a super star in focus, obedience in my backyard, now outside he act very similar to yours, I’m working hard in focus outdoors with e collar, the only thing he does outside very focus is protection, but engaging with me is hard for him, I thought that was environmental issues but he is not afraid of anything, this is my first dog that I train he is two years old now. Honestly I think I should put more hours of building focus and engagement outside when he was younger what I did a lot was socialization instead.what do you think?

    • @AmericanStandardK9
      @AmericanStandardK9  2 роки тому +2

      We use royal canin large breed puppy formula for training. Nothing beats raw diet though for health and longevity just harder to train with raw food

    • @primalcritters
      @primalcritters 2 роки тому +2

      Like he said, a raw diet is best but if you don't want to go raw, I would recommend Ziwi which is the best freeze dried raw you can get. You could also cook food for them. If it's too expensive then Arcana makes probably one of the better premium Kibbles and then you could use a little bit of that and integrate some Ziwi into it so they do get some better nutrition into their diet. Ziwi is amazing. From New Zealand and I cannot recommend a better freeze dried Raw. It's clean it's not messy it does have an odor but it's not a nasty odor it just smells like real nutrition. Also for treat training, freeze-dried liver is excellent. You can go to the pet store and get a huge bag of it for reasonable price. For an owner, I'd stay away from Royal Canin. It's a bunch of crap. I know it's easier to feed and affordable, but the ingredients are crap.. and for the love of your dog, don't listen to your vet about nutrition. They don't know anything. Most vets are not taught about nutrition in veterinary schools. They know how to treat illness but they don't understand nutrition and most of them are heavily recruited for marketing purposes by the large companies such as Royal Canin and aside from Arcana, there are few smaller brand High premium kibbles that are okay. Muenster is pretty decent. They have a lower-end line and then a higher-end line. Stay away from chicken meal or chicken by-product. You want to see the ingredients a chicken or beef and not beef meal, you know what I mean? If you don't get the ziwi and instead stick with the premium cable then add in fresh meat to the kibble so they get some real nutrition in. Good luck with your new puppy

    • @michaeljames_
      @michaeljames_ 2 роки тому

      @@primalcritters Hi, appreciate the detailed response. The Breeder has already started the pup on raw diet so I'm going to continue with that and see how it goes. If that doesn't work out I'll try out high quality kibble and add in fresh foods with it. I spoke to my vet and she said she recommends to feed good quality kibble until he is fully grown before starting barf diet.

    • @primalcritters
      @primalcritters 2 роки тому +1

      @Michael James anytime no problem. Look into ziwi. You could at least integrate that into a high-quality kibble in the meantime. It is sanitary and safe freeze-dried does not have the same implications as Raw. You will not be disappointed. But most large pet stores do not sell ziwi you can find it online or at small premium pet stores

    So I’ve been working on heel with my boy, but I cannot get him to stop when I stop. He wants to circle around my feet and stop in front of me. From your videos I know if he does respond correctly it is a matter of me not teaching correctly and I’m not positive what I need to change

    • @AmericanStandardK9
      @AmericanStandardK9  2 роки тому +3

      Use food luring to teach him where to stop and how (with sit). Once he has done 50-100 reps of that very cleanly and reliably then you can slowly add in prong collar pressure/corrections to underscore it.
