Thank you for the reminder. I have veered ff to exploring different kinds of meditation but I started with the Tibetan.... Shamatha...will go back to it so that you for the inspiration and reminder. Namaste. I also liked the eyes open because it is easier to drift off to Lala land when eyes are closed and not catch ourselves.
I've had difficulty with meditating for years and realize now it was mostly because I hadn't found the right kind to start, for me personally that is. His mention of this feels very important.
loved this one! especially the 'a few thoughts here and there is no problem' that just takes so much pressure off of me. not as rigid as i used to learn it in india..I just tried it and it was wonderful!
this is wonderful! I just started mediating this week and these tips are super helpful! I find it interesting that Orgyen suggests to keep the eyes open, I will try that!
+the minimalist ninja Yes, Shamata emphasizes eyes open (nothing wrong with closed eyes in other practices) so that there's less of a difference between meditation and everyday life experience--makes the mindful transition easier, though the practice in some ways can be harder. ~ @WaylonLewis Here's more: ua-cam.com/video/7RQDW00FC8Q/v-deo.html or ua-cam.com/video/PpJqvlTDoEs/v-deo.html or ua-cam.com/video/MStfKABCXso/v-deo.html
The Minimalist Ninja my root teacher also teaches to meditate with your eyes open. When your eyes are closed it's very easy to fool yourself into thinking you're meditating when in actuality you can very well be lightly sleeping. The open gazing fosters mental alertness and alertness is paramount in the practice of meditation. All the best on path!
My meditation practice has grown, in a life changing manner, following the teachings of Zen Master, Thich Nhat Hanh. I highly recommend to any person interested in meditation, to reference UA-cam videos taken of him. Thich Nhat Hahn is a renowned peace activist and practitioner of Engaged Buddhism. He worked along with Martin Luther King, has availed himself to the UK parliament, Googlers (as he refers to them), police department and so many more. And he has led meditation retreats worldwide. Seriously, or otherwise, check him out.
There is no need to: meditate, train the mind, cultivate positive thoughts, release negative emotions, let go, and any other such ego doing. Simply look within. Be aware of all thoughts, feelings, sensations, and emotions as much as possible while awake. Be mindful, or self-reflexive, or self-aware, or self-inquire. I need do nothing.
Fuck man, you're so deep, the wisest man alive. If I didn't need to do anything to stop griefing about my kitten having to be euthanized I wouldn't be here in the first place.

Remain in this moment....... what's important is maintaining our selves in "this moment "
