Fun fact: This performance was recently voted as BTS' best stage performance in an award show, and it was featured in a RUN BTS episode. Jimin mentioned that he felt like throwing up the entire time because the choreo was so hard and fast. But he was so proud of it :)

I think it should be voted as best stage performance ever from any artist. I've Never seen an award show or any show with such energy.

Funny you say that, because a few days ago I was asking the same exact thing after "Permission to Dance" released & I wrote that BTS should return next to their roots of hip-hop/rap. But yet when I said that I was shot down by some fans who said that BTS should do whatever they want. And here, you say that JK said they should do more rapping, which I just learned here. So it's ironic that a fan like me says something & gets scorned while the band itself says exactly the same thing in the same context & gets praised, heh.

@@robwebnoid5763 There has been criticism recently toward BTS with their music such as Dynamite, Life goes on, Butter and now PTD, some have heavily criticized the group saying they preferred their old music even though their album Map Of the Soul 7 was released not even a year and half ago and they were as always authentic in their music, they were their usual self, even a darker tone than their album Persona which is therefore in no way similar to their last songs.
What some find it hard to understand is that Dynamite was made for Army and people around the world during the Corona Crisis to keep people hope, it's the same for Life goes on and their recent PTD, Butter is a lighter song for the summer, well anyway, these songs are made in the spirit of support and healing during these difficult times, so they don't actually do hip-hop and it's not dramatic, as soon as the world is better they will release music in the continuity of their albums (I'm sure they are already working on it), maybe even that JK and V will release music in the genre that tempt them, I have I understand that V also wanted to turn to a more jazz universe, everyone can do what they want, but in the meantime they take criticism while they only want to give people hope, not nice.

Yes that's exactly what I was saying, that I was just suggesting what they might do next & not a replacement of what they have been doing recently, which have all been a reflection of the times. What they have already done is fine, what we can be waiting for is the NEXT songs on the horizon, which has always been the case for 8 years, waiting for what's next/comebacks. Let's not also forget that bts was an underdog, fighting back against haters & staying alive, doing that with angst & aggressive diss rap/lyrics, which this was one way they acquired a lot of new fans.
Also, I'm confused what you mean that mots7 was released under 6 months ago. As far as i know it released over a year ago, before planet-wide quarantine. Well, unless you meant BE (rel. november 2020).
The thing with Jungkook as a singer or rapper, when he joined the company they saw he was versatile so they wanted to see which one he was better at, singing or rapping. They picked singing but still made him a sub rapper and the main vocalist.
As a Karmy, Bighit asked him to become a main vocalist because only Jungkook can be a main vocalist of the group and that’s what Bighit said. But JK was good at everything so Bighit also agreed him to rap too. As time goes by, JK wanted to focus more on vocal so he doesn’t rap a lot these days. He still loves to sing, rap and dance. He’s our Korean’s national main vocal.

at 19:07 where there are two handsome guys fanning over bts are yeonjun blue and soobin black hair, they are from same entertainment and basically sibling grps, they debuted as the second boy grp of big hit in 2019
19:01 these are the 2 eldest members of the younger group in bighit after bts. they are called Tomorrow X Together (TXT) and the 3 younger members were forced to leave the program since they are still minors (under 20 yrs old) which Korea had a law/curfew that minors should not be out/working after 10pm. their songs are fire too if you want to check them out.

I find it fascinating that America and the industry in the country which is really focused on entertainment have really small stages for awards shows unlike in the east where they recognize that in order to have incredible performances you need to give some room for the artists.

@@anaisc8733 the american music industry and all the labels are massive cheapskates for the amount of money they have, they just want to hoard it and not spend it on their artists they don't care enough to do better staging for, i think that's the issue. people in the west are not used to this type of performance so nobody really calls it out either. also, the camerawork in the west is horrendous every time bts performs at any award show there so, honestly, i don't think even the stage crew in the west could keep up with it anyway lmao

The second song (classroom setting) was the final song on their first tour (2014). That was back when they were getting cut from music shows, not being taken seriously, not winning anything.
Performing THIS song - with the original 2014 set and original 2014 choreo - at THIS show? It's a massive flex. They're saying "This is what you missed back when you were ignoring us. We've always been good enough to take all the awards." And yes, they took all the awards that night.

Fun fact: BTS (and other Kpop idols too) actually sometimes do dance practices with hoodies, jackets and thicker materials on to kind of train their bodies to become more used to the heat on the stages.
I’ve wondered why they wore heavy clothes, like sweats, for practices.

Yay, I finally got to watch this! I just finished a huge exam today and had been saving this since it's so long. Lol, and all of this was for an award show! They basically gave a 40min concert/musical! This is why ARMY always say western award shows don't have stages big enough for BTS. Like how do you go back and watch BBMA/Grammy performances after something like this? And their stages literally don't have the size, technology, and capacity for BTS to truly put on a performance and show off the full extent of their artistry
I'm soo excited for you to react to the dance breaks in dionysus!! This is a legendary performance that ties in various stories of greek gods, that also relates to the lights that come down one by one for each of the members.
Also, if you weren't aware, each member represents the chronological journey of their discography which I found really cool
what you said about each of the members representing a different greek god!! Yes!! there are a lot of theories about it but from what I remember the god they represented went like this:
Taehyung is Apollo the god of the sun, healing, music, etc. his solo stage makes reference to the "circus of the sun" Cirque de Soleil and he has a sun crown in a VCR at some point. he also has matching twin earings with jimin which ill explain later
Jin is Aphrodite the goddess of love, fertility, his solo stage makes reference to the trojan horse and the trojan war, which was started as a dispute between Aphrodite and another god. he also wears pearls in the GDA VCR which are commonly associated with Aphrodite.
Jimin is Artemis the goddess of the hunt and chastity/purity, in his solo he wears all white, commonly associated with artemis' purity. Artemis is also often associated with the moon, jimins stage feels as though its is at night with a glowing full moon. and as mentioned he wears matching twin earrings with taehyung, Artemis and apollo are twins.
Yoongi is Hephaestus the god of fire and blacksmiths, his solo makes obvious reference to fire of course
Jungkook is Poseidon the god of the sea and horses. his solo clearly references water
Jhope is Zeus the god of thunder and the skies. his solo has lots of moving lasers and loud bass which kinda give the feeling of thunder and lightning
lastly,
namjoon is dionysus the god of wine, religious ecstasy, performance, and festivity. He obviously holds dionysus's thyrsus, a staff which is his symbol as well as a symbol for prosperity, hedonism, and enjoyment. namjoon also holds the staff as they perform the song.
BTS don’t just bring the scene, they rip it up chew it spit it out and take it to a whole new level, they compete with themselves and better themselves every time. What is their limit?
I've seen this so many times allready, but still getting chills everytime. BTS are truely amazing, it's mindblowing, and I love seeing you diving in to it fully! For me, there's no question about your sincerity.

Wow!!! As many times as I’ve seen this performance I didn’t even think that maybe they might have been representing the gods! Of course I see the contrast between fire and water and Dionysus but it never clicked!!! Learn something new from Army everyday!
This is why the Grammy's can't handle BTS. They shortened their 3 minute song so that they hopefully wouldn't upstage the other performers. Whatever.

What is commendable from them is how they aren't afraid to tackle their old songs (and perform them!!), even when they moved past those times and want to explore new grounds, that doesn't mean they aren't proud of their past songs.
All the time I've been to concerts (esp western bands), the artist is promoting their newest album, which is understandable, but sometimes some songs are oh so dear to fans' hearts, that it would be cool they didn't "actively refuse"to perform them anymore :( btw I'm not thinking/talking of anyone in particular, but in general, and I've been to at least least 50 concerts and usually the good-oldies stuff doesn't happen.
I am obsessed with linguistics, so what you talked about with how we learn language patterns in childhood is my jam. I love learning about these things.
You kinda have to already been into the bangtan universe to understand the intro video! Their universe extends to even live performances sometimes, with clues hidden here and there.
MMA 2019 perf is the best so far. Dionysus is hard core and intense. no group could top that

Weirdly enough, the only time I didn't cry to Mikrokosmos was when I saw them perform it live in concert!!! idk why!! But every other time, it always makes me cry.
I arrived to work @34:59and had to pause, but I had to comment before I forget.
The fanboys were two members of TXT (a big hit group, BTS’ little brothers so to speak). The other members had to leave bc they were minors and had to leave due to curfew.

Each light represents a member. The 7 lights forms Polaris / North Star. They have always reference Polaris and the stars/galaxies in ther performances and songs. This performance was a preparation for their Map Of The Soul 7 album which is their album to culminated their 7yrs together.. Thats why they were performing a medley of their old songs in here to introduce their finale performance - Dionysus. ✨
And yes, you're right, each of the members represented a greek god! ✨

BTS always performs on another level!
This particular performance was epic. A few companies boycotted the award shows, some of them pulled their artists after they had been announced. There are many reasons for these companies to have done this, but it felt like sore losers cuz they knew BTS would win everything.
As a result Big Hit got most of the air time that normally would’ve been given to those companies. It’s how TXT, a rookie group from Big Hit, ended up having a 16 minute show, and BTS had practically 40 mins of show.
Those companies boycotted and Big Hit said, that’s fine, I can run this whole thing by myself. Bring in the horses!
The horses were prerecorded btw. There were no live animals on stage with public for safety reasons.
This performance is INSANE!! So much happens, so many details, it’s beautiful!

So idk if you know Cher... But back in the day when she did her fairwell tour she did a little speech. She was saying how all these young girls were coming to take her place (Britney, Christina etc) and she said "Follow this you bitches". Then proceeded to give an epic performance, dancing, singing, set changes, costume changes etc. This gives me that same energy xD BTS came out and was like "Follow this you bitches." LOL

I am sure they all collapsed back stage after that performance. Wow, right? I've seen this about 3 times, but I never get over it. Also, you were the first that realized about the lights coming down representing the various members. I believe it looked like a horseshoe to me, but not sure. Also, each member introduced a different song that they've done. Anyway, I enjoyed watching this again and your commentary.

Jungkook is an amazing rapper… he loved rapping… but from the beginning he had always been the MAIN vocalist which means he’s their best vocalist overall with all the aspects of it… they’re all amazing , they’re all way above average… just that’s his position but he’s also a sub rapper, lead dancer and “center” of performances. So in kpop main is the best, lead is next and then sub is last. I think people think “main vocalist” just means he gets the most lines but it’s really so much more that he is responsible for not just recording but he does most of the harmonies and adlibs recording and background vocals are generally him… he harmonizes with the vocalists even live he really does a lot but he also rap harmonizes with the rappers and his vocal stability and stamina is top tier…. You can rarely hear his voice falter…. But anyway you should watch “main vocalist jungkook” by Ida s , it’s a good video with a really good look at everything it takes for him and how in depth things ye does for recording, live , him doing vocal guides for all their songs, has the members talking about his position, producers who worked with them and why he made such an impression on them , there’s vocal breakdown and hidden vocal examples… it’s really cool and crazy I didn’t know all that ! But they were just more heavily hip hop so since he was really the only vocalist that was rapping…. So as the music changed to less rap and more singing… then he just sings less bc of that and most songs are more vocal based … Jhope is actually a rapper, main dancer and sub vocalist which is why you’ll see him singing more than the other rappers… but I definitely miss his rapping too . He does every once in awhile but it’s mostly singing since he’s in the highest position… they’re all incredible at everything at this point though lol

I think that the rappers are all so great and Jungkook's voice is so amazing(I don't think you've fully experienced it yet until you hear some of his solo songs or their ballads) that they chose for him to stick more to the main vocalist role. :)

The Dionysus performance is symbolic - of BTS is the King. BigHit did not spare the expense to showcase BTS. Why? Because in the past BTS was disrespected - coming from a small agency. The horses represent someone with royalty.

Fun fact about languages just because you inspired me to comment it (and I loved your fun fact!): this is not scientifically proved, it's just a popular observation, if a Brazilian (I'm Brazilian, that's why it's so specific) go to a Spanish speaking country it's likely they'll be able to talk with people even if they don't know Spanish fluently. But if a Spanish speaker comes to Brazil it's unlikely they'll be able to communicate in Portuguese even if the languages are very alike. Of course it's not a rule, some people might have different experience.
That was being discussed in a language group I'm in. My personal teory is that here we are exposed a lot to other cultures since childhood, in media and also with immigrants. Well, there's also the 'Brazilian way', maybe that's another factor.

Gid, FYI: 45:15 were NOT BTS members, that's another 7 member band. Can you imagine if BTS Performs this Level at an American Award Show? It would literally Embarrass the rest of those Artist/Performers Hands Down. That's why the US don't want to face facts that BTS is a Powerhouse. Period. Also, JK is a Sub-Rapper. Back then, they needed a Lead Vocalist and JK was the perfect person. J-Hope sings also, but they trained him to be a Rapper and the Rest is History.
