The only thing I see that it needs, would be a drink holder. Hole saw, a spare square piece held in by a few screws and a support angle piece under that. Chair looks good.
Thanks to your vid I built one of these a year or two ago with some scrap pressure treated lumber I had lying around. It’s a good design that was super easy to follow and took an hour using my mitre and jig saws. Whenever we have people over they always ask my wife where she bought the chair. When she tells them I built it, they think I’m some sort of master craftsman. I giggle inside every time. Nice work!
The fact that you made the dimensions available on the screen without charging us for them just made me subscribe. Let me know if you have a Patreon or anywhere we can support you so you can keep making great content like this!
The full plans for every project and the cut lists are available on RogueEngineer.com. You can just print them for free or support the channel and buy the printable pdf versions for $5. Thanks Sid!! Tons of content coming your way.
I just built one, now that wood is almost back at previous prices. I gotta say I had fun with the project and there were only minor adjustments I had to make with the sander to make it all a perfect fit. Wet PT wood make mine about 130 pounds. That’s perfectly fine and it’ll dry out over the winter. To be honest, it’s not as comfortable as I’d hoped with the seat being flat. This only means that a lucky family member will get an Adirondack chair for his birthday soon. Thank you so much for the excellent plan and video. Again, I had fun building it.
I built two of your outdoor benches last year for my boat dock and they turned out great! Im so glad you have these chair plans that will match the benches perfectly! Cant wait to get started on them! Thanks again for making your videos!
I'm just starting out doing wood work but after completing the bench project with my son, I built this chair. Because of these easy to do projects, I'm loving wood working.
Built 2 for myself and sold 4, and have an order for 6 more! Great plans and the chairs are very sturdy and comfortable! One recommendation - I found that if you put a screw in from the inside of the upright into the back of the arm rest, it makes it a LOT sturdier.
I bought the plans and built this chair. Same with the bench seat also. They turned out great tho I used some different sized timbers as I had some off cuts lying around. I think thin decking boards on the seat is an upgrade on this chair because it adds more flexi and thinner decking boards will dry faster after a rainy day. I used the stronger 32mm (about 1 inch) decking boards but will swap them out for 19mm (about 1/2 to 3/4 inch). I live in New Zealand and these are perfect for the conditions! The sun doesn't fade them beyond a coat of stain, the wind doesn't blow them away and rain doesn't affect them. They are more durable than anything you can buy in a store and neighborhood cats don't piss on them! 1 improvement you could consider for your videos and plans is to add the metric measurements for the other 94% of the worlds population. Even with the outdated measurements, your probably my favorite UA-camr. Keep it up and ill keep buying you plans.
@ 3:18 One of the best quotes I've heard in a very long time "Let's not rely completely on math because there is some human error here". I Love it. Bought the wood last week and I'm building this chair in the next few days.
I learned something today that was so simple I could not believe that I had not thought of it. Laying the foam insulation on your table to use when cutting wood on it with your circ saw. I do that all the time on the driveway with sheet plywood but it never occurred to me to put it on my table for the same purpose. I just always used dogs to hold it and held the part to be cut off the edge. Your way is better. Also, I doubt I will ever build one of these chairs but thanks for the free plans anyway.
Great build! Built one for myself with only one or two problems. My neighbors seen the chair when it was almost completed and both of them want two chairs each along with a table. So, if this keeps up will have to make some templates. The only thing different from your chair is I put a 3 inch round-over on the outer vertical panels for the back.
We built two of these chairs and really love the solid design. The legs provide good support in the lawn and prevent sinking. Made a couple of minor tweaks to the plans. Used a 45 at the top of the outside back boards to soften the corners. Also used pocket screws to secure the arm rest to the support so there were no screws in the top. The design is perfect with a Leopold style bench. I’ll try your bench design next! (For all - Buy the plans as it much easier than working from the web site. I then add the plans to my notebook so that I can record my tweaks and notes.)
Gotta love easy DIY stuff for noobs like me. I built the bench last week. Today, this chair. I had some issues with the angles using a speed square but in the end it came out great. A key for me was squaring the feet with a straight board. Using the measurements on the pics where to line up the small leg didn’t work out so I just used the 2 5/8 one and squared them. Worked fine. Other errors too but they’re all on me. There were a lot of cuts and if you’re off by 1/16 over 4 cuts let’s say, that 1/4” can make a heckuva difference.
I just built this chair and I love it, I took a lot longer than an hour but I bought material for two chairs. My only thing was that I thought the chair would be to heavy for the arm rest to be screwed into the side, the piece that was cut off from the support pieces I used for support: measuring 4 inches down from longest side and cut it at the same angle. Looks good and is very comfortable! Everyone who has seen or sat in it loves it. Thanks!!
I just built mine and it looks awesome. This was more complex than the simple bench and between the 2 i would rather build the bench again. Thank you for the designs and videos.
I just finished this chair today. Definitely is NOT an hour job if you're a beginner. There's a lot of angled cuts needed, and those can be a challenge to cut straight with a circular saw through 2" of treated wood. I also felt like some of the cuts on the 2x8s should have been put on the cut list diagram so they'd be easier to cut when it was all one big piece. I accidentally cut the angle on the long legs backwards so it leans back a little further, which my wife actually likes. I also used a plant pot to draw a curve on the armrests and cut it with a jigsaw so it looks better, and I used pocket screws to attach the back of the armrests. Finished product looks great though, and I plan on building a second chair.
Nice. The last Adirondack chair I made was in the classic style and was just complicated enough to put me off of making anymore. These look great and would go perfectly around our fire pit. I just bought the plans. Thanks for the video!
Great video and chair. Im new to the woodworking world. I just purchased the download and will make this a Summer project with my daughter. Thanks for the build🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Loved the Chair not only looks good and comfortable but would also make a super basis for conversion into a Rocking Chair - Well done. Keep up the good work.
Why is everyone saying you have to pay? It's free unless you want a pdf version.. Are the people complaining giving away free stuff? Made the 8x2 bench and now want to try this. 👍
Great build and very easy to follow. I'm redoing my small pool deck and want to add in some built in chairs and this plan is the best so far of adapting 👍🏻
Change the picture in the front of your ad to show the chair or edit and show the chair at the beginning of your video so people can visualize what you’re making first ♥️
Just came across your site. Fantastic job! I am now a dedicated subscriber and looking forward to trying some of your projects. Keep up the great content and style.
I've built and sold a few of the benches you have on your page and I was going to try to find a way to donate a bit as a thank you. But then I saw you charge for your plans for this chair, so I decided to just buy your plans instead. I've added an arm to the bench you made, but I think I'm going to try something like the arm on this chair instead. I already build 2 different adirondack chairs, one that's just amazing (from Jackman Works), but it takes about 7 hours to make. The other is very simple from Ana White, but not nearly as comfortable. I've sold some of each. I think I'll add this as kind of a slight upgrade from the simple one I make. I'm hoping lumber prices come soon down so I can make them a little cheaper. Thanks again for such great content!
One thing you might consider, is adding some sacrificial blocks to the end of the legs. They help prevent the chair from sinking into the ground, stop water from wicking into the legs and can be easily replaced when rotted.
As an self appointed representative for he pocket-hole brigade I'm going to leave a friendly reminder that some of the joints could have been done using a different method. But the project is awesome and I have already purchased the downloadable plans. Keep the inspiration coming, this is my favorite kind of woodworking!
I know these are low rider chairs. I built two so for and came out awesome. If I want to add a few more inches off the ground, can I just add to the length of the long and short legs. Thank you !
Do you have a video on a picnic table build? Love your easy explanations how to build things. Easy to follow instructions. Keep up the great work and videos.
I really like this, and the bench you made in another video as well. I think, however, that where the legs intersect, and maybe other areas where structural support is required, I will be using 1/4 inch galvanized lag screws. I stand at about 6'2", and check in around 275 pounds, so I want to make sure this is going to support me, and anyone else, for a long time to come. I might also add in a support on the rear of the arm, like what you used under the front of the arm. Overall I am very impressed with these projects, and can't wait to start building my own.
Very cool looking chair and great video! It looks like you've also blended some design concepts from the Leopold bench and meshed with the Adirondack design, which is very cool! Thanks again!
I love the chair and have built two of them so far...I do have one question what type of jigsaw blade do you use for cutting the curve for the back supports.. my jigsaw has a heck of a time getting threw the thick pressure treated wood...I think you make great videos keep up the good work ...
Great video, and for once a wood worker that doesn't have a $20k shop full of expensive specialized tools. Much more relatable for the weekend warrior types.
You should really consider adding a 14 to 16 in bandsaw. It would make SOOOO much better curve cuts than a jijsaw. Always look forward to seeing your videos
Great video looking forward to building it this weekend! Total beginner here but feel like this should be easy enough. I have 2 young kids and a 3rd on the way any tips on how I could scale this down to make a kids size version.

The great feature of this design is the strength. The other great feature is the simplicity. Yes, you can make variations, but I would recommend building one the way he shows, and the second one make your variation, like different size wood.
On the chair backs should should you pull make a one inch mark on both ends along with the one and one half in the middle or just one one inch mark and the mark and one and half inches
I made the bench and the chair today they came out very good I would say, for some reason I wasn’t able to find the right wood (appearance pressure treated)
Yes, pressure treated/green treat/brown treat all work great. You can use standard pine but 5/4 decking is usually treated. I had the lumber yard drop off enough for 12 chairs, half way done!

I wish if you rounded the back supports, and made it a little wider. I like how you cut hands_free and the foam is great as an anti slip object.
Thanks for the plans for this great looking chair. How about plans for a matching footstool?
You make it look so simple and totally doable! - Thanks for the tutorial!
Nice chair...great job
Thanks
great build. with the scissor leg design. You can probably make it folding.

Came out great! Thanks for the plans
1. Get Festool jigsaw for 90 degree cuts. 2. Common, start using metric system. 3 Great armchair for outside.

Great chair and detailed plans. I made this today and it turned out nice. I hate using a jigsaw!!! Can anyone please tell me what the two 23" ripped in 1/2 approx 3 5/8" pieces are used for in this build. Thanks again for a great product!!!
Great video, i saw the bench one and will be making both this summer! Do you have to put any sealer on this to protect it from the weather or anything????
The treated pine should be enough but sealer will certainly help. Just make sure the wood is good and dry before doing so.
Brilliant!
I would through-bolt the legs pieces together. 2 1/2” wood screws won’t hold over time.
That is a great addition that I cover in the plans.
He puts in the curvlinear back at 3:54. That's what interested me. Nice.
Quick and easy lol! I built the bench (which I love), but it was not 30 min like your plans state 😂
Just one suggestion. When you are cutting treated lumber please wear a dust mask. The sawdust carries the chemicals and is not good for you to be breathing in. Other than that, the design and plans are pretty awesome. There are so many Adirondack chair designs that are so friggin' complicated on the web. I like this one and will probably add it to my portfolio of outdoor furniture as soon as lumber prices come down, or at least stabilize.
Okay, weird question. Where do you make your building plans at? Do you have a software or website or anything?
New to woodworking, what is the material you use to cut under your circular saw?
rigid insulation - used for walls, also called "Foam Board Insulation". Can be rather expensive but it works wonderfully in this application.
Enjoyed your video
thank you very much!
And then the big lumber companies decided to take advantage of the pandemic by getting crazy rich.
I will wait until lumber prices come down before building your sturdy and comfy looking chairs. But I will make some.
Thank you so much for your time and efforts.
Would you suggest using glue before screwing? Also would 1x8's work?
The great feature of this design is the strength. The other great feature is the simplicity. Yes, you can make variations, but I would recommend building one the way he shows, and the second one make your variation, like different size wood.
Nice chair design. Approximately how much does the chair weigh?
I will make more than one, nice project, thanks
love it !!!

aha nice design!
On the chair backs should should you pull make a one inch mark on both ends along with the one and one half in the middle or just one one inch mark and the mark and one and half inches
Hi man great videos I actually made the other chair yesterday it turned out great! How do you like your ryobi tools?
I made the bench and the chair today they came out very good I would say, for some reason I wasn’t able to find the right wood (appearance pressure treated)
Yes, pressure treated/green treat/brown treat all work great. You can use standard pine but 5/4 decking is usually treated. I had the lumber yard drop off enough for 12 chairs, half way done!
I would like to make a pair for an older couple but would need to have chair higher so they can get in and out easy. What would you recommend?
METRIC SYSTEM IS GREAT ! ; )
