I feel like a hardwired keeb that would be hard/expensive to do with regular PCBs would be more exciting, keyboards like kinesis (I know it has PCBs) Or dactyl, where the shape is not flat hence utilizing the handwriting is a whole lot cooler. Are you planning to do such a thing? And if u aren't planning to yet, would you be open to the idea?

1:42 how is your soldering so clean? I got a good soldering iron, 63/37 solder, temperature at 300 celsius, but when i try to solder the copper to the pin, the solder only goes to the pins. I even bought some flux and it doesn't make a difference.
Very clean build. I've always thought about a "split" keyboard that's just a 75% on one half, and a number pad on the other half. But instead of using a TRRS cable to connect, it uses pogo pins that magnetically snap together. Thoughts on if this could be possible?
Could be possible. I’ve looked at pogo pins and the issue is the interconnect cable, it’ll be ugly. Other issue is hot plugging and that would be easy with magnetic connectors. Could short out your controller easily.
great build brother! which cad software do you use for 3d designing? and also for MX style switches, do you do 14mm x 14mm for switch mount plate? and also, can you refer some resources for screw holes on the case in context of 3d designing?
Hi your video really got me interested in finally attempting to make a keyboard, I have no knowledge on the matter but I'm a huge gamer and right now the keyboards are starting to see a "revolution" and I was wondering if at all is it possible to build a keyboard like this but with analog/hall effect switches? I'm referring to a keyboard that would add like the Wooting 60HE but with the ergonomics of the corne architect? I keep trying to google it but maybe with my lack of knowledge of proper terms or keywords I can't seem to find if anybody has done so.
What an incredible build, Joe!! Not even kidding, and you've got a large repo of builds to compare against, but i think this is your best build yet - and i don't even really gravitate to splits. But, while the star of the show might be the overall cleanliness - as others keep mentioning - i personally love the hazard art and how that hazardous theme is carried through to a kind of construction-yellow. you could have gotten away with a construction-cone orange cable, but i love that hot pink and it's striking contrast to the enclosure's color. I'm a cyberpunk no-lifer, so if i make this - and i might - i might go with some tweaks to turn mine into an edgerunner's themed split. Incredible work as always; as far as the mechanical keyboard community goes you are in a league all your own and creating converts with each build.

Nice! For folks uncomfortable with hand-wiring, you should be able to build this on a PCB with Adafruit’s Neokey PCB - and as a bonus you’d get per-key RGB, though that would require some re-jiggering to add the RGB control. The plates might not fit though. Darnit. I’d have to measure. As to the plates warping, I would bet you could stop that completely by making ribs extend vertically running the length of the plate. Not that the curve is an issue once the screws are in.
@@joe_scotto I'd assume you wouldn't need such explanations, but as an audio guy I know for the peeps out there that are not audio guys that cable conventions might get a little..... confusing
@@joe_scotto sorry, i meant building the firmware config. It's all good I was mainly fighting with using a Arduino Nano as my board for a complete custom build so thought seeing someone compile for a different board might help. Turns out you have to change the bootloader on the Nano to v-usb to use the Atmega328p. Overall though just using a RP2040 is a much better option all around due to how many pins it has and how cheap it is and how easy it is to flash. I hope the comunity as a whole starts to move away from the pro micros and teensys

It's on my list of things to eventually make a video on. I recently did try setting up a board using it and was very impressed at how quick and simple it was.
You should try the horswap handwired clip thingies made by Jan Lunge, you and him are the biggest contributors along with Ai03 and such to the custom keebspace.
Honestly, it’s probably time I do this. I’ve been asked it a lot and it’s something that’s been on my list for a long time. There is even a really neat online tool that will configure the 3D files according to the layout you want.

There are ways to hot swap with handwiring, I just haven’t done it.

Why do we use a TRRS if you're using only 3 poles/connections? Wouldn't a TRS be a better, more common cable/connector to use?
i thought with 3 conns the parts can communicate each other

when i put the 3mf file into bambu studio i can't split the plate and case. any tips how to do this?
Doctor says: that is a TRRS cable, not a TRS (means it has 4 conductive wires, not 3)
I did call it a TRRS just sounds like I said TRS lol

This was all Bambu Lab filament but normally I use Elegoo. All my boards are printed in PLA

You just hold the boot button when plugging it in and then drop the .uf2 firmware file onto the drive.
