Awesome video. I put that Lamy Violet Blackberry on my list ♡ I pray you heal quickly and be rid of the pain. I am terrified of falling ever since my husband passed and I constantly have to remind myself to move slowly and pay attention to what I’m doing. Be well and be safe. You’re such a doll. 😘 Also, I used the Robert Oster Red Gold along with Golden Beryl for my Christmas Cards last year and they really made a festive combination. Love that Red Gold.
Hi Chris, i hope you are doing better,! One thing i have learned is once you hurt yourself in a specific spot, later, if you fall again, the same spot hurts more, as if it's a memory trigger. Or maybe it's just not quite as strong.. i loved this report. I had to stop mid way due to the phone and ended up rewatching it from the start today. And i didn't take notes,so i will probably watch it again. Do keep your spirits up and maybe life is telling you to slow down a bit? Take care
Hi Ann-Ingrid -- yes I think that's true ... the place I hurt when my nephew dog plowed into me and sent me flying onto the concrete hurts again but part of it is fear of pain and memory of it I think .... I was laid up a long time after that fall in 2018. My back has presented similar tension and symptoms in the past to old injuries. I do need to slow down!!! And I find I need to turn off the screens and take a major break from all coverage of the truly stressful election coverage. I do feel better during the day now (it's Tuesday so day 5) but at night it's truly difficult to sleep or even lay down without taking Ibuprofen which causes me stomach issues. I'm trying to tailor my diet to support max healing!!!! And that includes my diet from stressful news and election coverage. :)
So sorry to hear you fell, Chris. It can happen in a flash and is quite dangerous at our age. I have fallen twice for no apparent reason and once I broke my neck, leading to a permanent disability. I'm going to start doing some exercises to improve balance -- there are lots of safe ones online, and a physical therapist can provide suggestions too. Being mindful of where your feet are definitely helps, but even with that, it can still happen. I try to pay attention, but it can be easy to forget in those ordinary moments.
Hi Marilyn -- oh no -- that's terrible -- and you're right these things happen in a flash ... ! I'm somewhat paranoid now walking about. It has made me aware how much I was rushing and at times how distracted I was. Today, I'm achy all over from having my flu and covid shots .... I help with a few very vulnerable people and felt I needed to keep my vaccinations current even though I'm still recovering from the fall but ugh.
Hi @StaticCling99 my cats may be plotting revenge ... I've disrupted their night so badly with getting up and being on the couch or in my chair at odd times ... it's comical ... they scowl at me like I've committed a crime. But Toby did snuggle last night on the couch ... he had to share his space with me. :)
Oh Chris! I'm so sorry you fell. I fell off a cliff hiking in the mountains a year ago. I'm so lucky to be alive! It was such a freak miscalculation. I have done that hike probably 100 times in my life. One of my friends said "sometimes the familiar path gets us." isn't that the truth!? Take good care of yourself and ice those sore spots!
Hi Wendi Sue -- oh gosh that sounds extremely painful and scary! So true about the familiar path ... I've never even partly tripped in that part of my house ever before. I still can't figure how/why it happened and why I didn't just land on my knees as in the past would happen. :)
Hi David -- thank you -- I'm feeling better during the day but nights are an absolute nightmare ... not being able to get comfortable to sleep unless I take Ibuprofen which I hate to take. But, I'm improving slowly. Just not my sleep. The cats give me dirty looks when I get up to share the couch with them.
So sorry to hear you fell, but I am glad you are feeling better. So glad you are enjoying the inks. All those burgundy inks have inspired me to ink up some pens with some. I have some Private Reserve Black Cherry and I like it. I also have coffee break and will ink that up in November. Looking forward to changing out my pens for October- Oranges and purples are my favorites.
I've not heard of Anderillium inks until now. Ouch Chris, sorry to hear about your fall. As we get older, we don't 'bounce' the same as when we're younger. Thank heavens no broken bones.Take care 🙂. I find that Arnica Cream is good for bruises, aches and pains after a fall. Fortunately, 🤞🤞I've not fallen for a while.
I'm so sorry to hear about your fall, but I'm glad to see that you seem to have made it through just a bit sore. That beats a broken bone for sure! I hope you'll be back to normal soon! I enjoyed seeing your thoughts about all the samples in the video and I'm glad that you had a chance to play around with the two Detroit Pen Show inks. They're putting out a green one for this year's show next month, so I'll be sure to send you some! Take care and talk to you again soon!
Hi Matt -- thank you! And thank you for the samples ... those inks are so pretty and I'm really interested in the company especially being a USA company! They sure make bright, beautiful inks! :) Yes, I truly am lucky ... my only bad outcome is very poor sleep and having to take Ibuprofen at night. I don't think I did more than bruise my ribs. I hope your school year is off to a positive start!!!!
That Lamy ink is really pretty. Slow down and take good care of yourself! Years ago, my dog ran through me and I went airborne. I twisted in mid air to not squish her. My knee twisted and I was on crutches for 6 weeks. Be careful!
Hi Terri -- oh ouch! You know exactly what I was talking about about most of my previous falls being trying to prevent harming a pet!!!! LOL My cats are always underfoot. I have learned when I hear them running behind me to stop with both feet firmly on the ground so they don't trip me up. :)
Chris, firstly I can empathise with you about rushing and tripping up. I hope that you recover quickly an NC you don't have to much pain. Thank you for the video and all of the work that you put into it. It was very interesting to see the results.
Thanks for sharing, Chris! I love these updates. I'm just about to load one of my TWSBI Ecos with California Poppy, from Birmingham Pen Co. It's such a nice fall orange, a little more brown and bright than a pumpkin shade. I think I'll try the Colorverse Coffee break as a complement to it. Getting in a Fall mood. Enjoy!
Ditto to what everyone else is saying, be careful. I like using those hard to read inks as watermarks on my journal pages with splatters and doddles. It's always fun to see the writing ink reaction on it.
I'm so glad you are ok! I hear you because I'm just getting over a fall where I fractured my wrist. I am so grateful it's my left one, so I can still write 😅 Take care. I love your videos.
Great video Chris. I hope you feel better soon. The DeAtrementis Elderberry is gorgeous. I’ve also love the Black Cherry and the Espresso was the first sample of ink I tried. I’m really thinking I’m going to get the Texas ink from the U.S. as I love brown inks. Take care and thank you.
Thank you Anne -- it's now day 10 after the fall and I do feel better most of the day ... toward evening I start to ache but I'm able to do almost everything I need to now. :)
I can relate to your fall, as my wife has fallen twice within one month, both outdoors, on pavement. I am at my wits end to get her to use a cane or pole or something, but she just refuses. I think she doesn't want to look old. But at 81, she IS old! Slow down, woman!
Oh they make such good walkers these days ... sporty ... even with mountain bike type tires for going over the lawn or rougher terrain ... I'm thinking of getting one! I like those sporty once with a seat where you can put stuff in the compartment and you can sit on it if you're tired waiting in line. I'm "only" 60 but as soon as I can I'll get one of those walkers. It took 3 falls for Mom to really use her nice walker ... she now won't go anywhere without it. :)
Yay! I love to start my days with one of your videos. I agree with you about the lighter inks. They are so pretty, but my eyes just can't stand the struggle these days. That Krishna Moon View looks a lot like Iroshizuku ama-iro, don't you think? Take good care of yourself. It's amazing how fast an injury can happen!
"That ink is so old ." 😂 2017-18? I love a brown from WWII. And I've used from probably the 1930s. But I get it. You have had it longer than you thought. 😉 Quite a nice selection of inks! Of course you "went nuts" with purple. Wouldn't have been you, then.😁 Gotta be careful! We aren't the kids we think we are, anymore. To quote my granddad, "I'm not the kid I was in 1910!" 😂 (He was born in 1905.) Hope you heal quickly! Might be breaking down and getting another ink. I'm happy with Diamine Registrar's Ink as a great, standard, and even water-resistant blue-black. I'm needing a better behaved, not black, fairly permanent ink, so... I try use a non black for certain things that traditionally would have been non black ink, and I'm realizing that certain things I've written lately would have been better done with a more permanent ink.
@ChrisSaenz13 Herbin has a reputation. French government outlawed some fungicides, so they don't seem to last as long without growing mold (funny that other French inks don't have trouble. Waterman and Parker Quink... So I question that reasoning. ) My favorite brown is WWII era Parker Quink washable brown. Exactly the "old writing brown" I like. And I've used a local brand from I think Washington state from around then, or pre WWII. Older inks LAST. Colors other than black or blue and blue-black might fade or change color (have yet to see brown change, either), but they had higher legal amounts of the fungicides that kept stuff from growing in them. Generally phenol, which even the US claimed was toxic for inks, but still got used in Chloraseptic. Phenol is why vintage Parker Quink had that distinct "fountain pen ink smell."😁 Dig up a cheaper bottle of the "With Solv-X" stuff on eBay. Think that's the last age (during the 1970s was the end of production of the "With Solv-X" inks) that used phenol (I suspect it's at least part of "Solv-X.")
I prefer darker, more vibrant colors as well. I never even considered getting Celadon Cat even though there was considerable hype about its release. Your video inspired me to get out my ink journal and I have to laugh at how all of my favorite ink colors, are nearly identical. 😅
Gosh, I‘m always afraid of falling over my cat or my dog - they‘re about the same size (dog‘s a Maltese and seems to think she‘s a cat too;) and love to be exactly where I walk. I hope you feel better soon !
Hi @Heidejournal definately the pets are a hazard to our staying on our feet! :) Toby is like a flying missile when he gets going so I have to plant both feet firmly on the ground and freeze when I hear him coming.
Hi @SuSuSham I was thinking the same thing .... about three's ... earlier in the week last week I woke up to what felt like a foot sprain ... mysterious but it cleared up quickly ... then I burned my finger trying to pull out the over rack and misjudging where my pot holder was in relation to my finger .... then Friday I fell .... I thought to myself ... I hope that's it ... 3 and done. Good grief I'm not sure I could survive anything else right now. :)
@@ChrisSaenz13 we will count that as the three 😀 - you’re done - no more injuries!!! I am getting hit in life as well right now - I think I’m only up to 2 😢
You need to be careful young lady and slow down thank goodness you werent carrying scissors or something breakable and even more grateful that nothing was broken gosh falling is so scary the older I get my ability to trip and jump to catch myself is limited by my ability to jump so I've been practicing jumping sounds crazy but it keeps me limber there is a person who draws those skipping patterns in chalk for their child on the sidewalk and I always hop the skipping path which also is fun :)
Hi Marilyn -- oh yes I'm certainly glad I was not carrying scissors! Whew it was a week of 3 major physical challenges first an almost sprained ankle then I burned my finger and grade finale I fell .... ! I'd like a do-over of last week!
That Celadon Cat is interesting but too light for me also. There’s nothing worse than ink accidents…I’ve had many close calls! Falls are the pits, I fell outside onto the grass while walking the dog last month. Didn’t get hurt but really should no longer be walking in flip-flops. As the name implies…Flop!
Oh yes I agree ... I got rid of my beloved flip-flops years ago ... I do sometimes wear fully strapped water shoes or sandals that are stable and not floppy. :)
Hi Laurie - oh ouch! One of my past incidents involving my cat I broke one of my big toes when the wooden tray table she was on crashed down on my sandal foot toes ... it was so painful. I now don't own wooden tray tables only light weight plastic ones!!!!!
Unfortunately, Robert Oster makes Nathan Tardiff look almost like a nice person. RO is a VERY nasty piece of work. There are plenty of other brands of ink that aren't made by jerks, and that have been around long enough to prove their safety and value, so it's easy to avoid the bad actors.
I saw some of their political posts a while back, but is there new stuff? My feelings are that this company isn’t based in the US, so they should keep their political thoughts to themselves. No matter what their take is, I don’t think any of these companies should be making political statements. Nor should celebrities, because what makes them experts?
Where are the political statements that Robert Oster put out? I mean which platform? I am NOT on facebook the disinformation and interference capital of the USA but I am often on Instagram. There is so much disinformation and projection and hate being spread these days ... it has taken me months to find more factual information and get to the roots of some of the horrible accusations being tossed around. We sure do all need to do our own research and what we find will make it difficult but at least then we know a little more of what we are choosing when voting. People from other countries are scared of what may befall them depending on the leadership here in the USA too I'm sure. The more I've learned the more I've realized the geopolitical landscape of the world is extremely complicated ... and yet I know which issues are important to ME and my family. I don't ever condemn someone else for making a different choice. :)
Hi Jackie - I prefer that we discuss things without using name calling directed at individuals or companies. I do not mind being told that I might want to check out XYZ that a company posted.
@@ChrisSaenz13 Robert Oster had made at least one post on Instagram after the last presidential election, but if I remember correctly, they ended up taking it down because it got a bad reaction from some people. From what people had posted about it I gather there were probably other posts, but I didn’t see those.
Get well soon Chris. I've had a bad fall myself a year ago and got a blood clot in my brain and needed surgery on my wrist. Getting old is not for sissies!:🥲
Hi @lenorebreen3394 oh ouch that sounds so scary and painful. I was lucky my head was not involved but several other hurts emerged in the days following the fall ... just that my rib cage and upper thigh (and somehow my knee) were the ones that took the brunt of the impact.
You got that right ... I'm wanting to walk around in a padded suit. LOL
@@ChrisSaenz13 LOL agree. Thx for replying.
