    @SeagullCat3 Hi There! Thanks for watching! As the video explains, many of these technologies are in place or are being deployed today. While it is difficult to project exactly when certain ideas will be in use on a mass scale, we at Corning are optimistic about many of these ideas touching people's lives very, very soon. Thanks again for your interest. Stay curious and be sure to share the video with your friends! :-)

Also, what about privacy...will the authorities be able to now track and watch your every move? Besides these two cons, the idea behind this is amazing and frankly great. But, do the pros outweigh the cons in the long run?

    Lol, I was 8 when I first saw this way back in 2012, and now UA-cam has recommended this to me. Now, I'm a few months away from turning 17, and in retrospect, a lot of these things are completely impractical (like fr, a glass wall in a National Park? Did the weather disappear in the future? And don't you have to clean that too for the "aesthetically pleasing look" lol), but back in 2012, 8 year old me was blown away by this stuff, and I was so excited for the future. Funny how your view of the same thing can change with time and age.
    Also, I love how they thought home buttons would stick around in the future LOL

    • @mesofius
      @mesofius 3 роки тому +1

      I guess you were smarter as an 8 year old. Augmented reality (glass in a park) is very practical for demonstration purposes and there are many ways of cleaning it, one is by utilizing a device called a towel.

    • @TheLongIslanderYT
      @TheLongIslanderYT 3 роки тому +3

      @@mesofius You do realize I wasn't referring to how useful it is, but how easy it is to maintain, right? In the form presented in the video, it certainly is not practical to maintain.
      I'm from the Northeast, and this piece of tech would need a lot of maintenance just to keep it up throughout the year because of how drastic the 4 seasons are, and also how animals could potentially damage the thing (if they already damage regular signposts, they will surely do some damage to a piece of glass)
      As to your snarky comment about using a towel: I obviously know you could use a towel, but my point is about how practical an AR glass wall is to maintain, and if they need to have added work just to keep this thing clean, why would they do it? This just adds more time and energy which they originally didn't need to do.
      I mean seriously, you really think parks will actually put time and money in setting up and maintaining these things? Don't you think parks would have a better use for that money (ESPECIALLY government-run National Parks)? I would LOVE to see this actually come to fruition, but I understand that it most likely won't considering it's *not practical*, at least right now.
      In other words, it's *not realistic* to maintain.
      What parks will do (and already are doing) is set up companion apps for their parks. Those companion apps will most likely have AR Demos in them for different sections of the park. This is FAR more practical than having a glass wall which can easily malfunction, has a high maintenance cost, and, yes, the fact that you need to clean the thing more than a regular sign. I didn't even mention how it's a lot nicer to use a handheld device (kinda like what they showed IMMEDIATELY after that lol) to view these sorts of things, but that's just my opinion.
      Also, side note, if you want to have a debate then that's all good, but insulting me kinda reduces your credibility, so don't try that if you're debating in real life lol ;D

    • @mesofius
      @mesofius 3 роки тому +1

      @@TheLongIslanderYT I'm from NYC, it would be great to have it in Central Park and there are always park employees that can use a towel to clean it off from rain. It's not exactly rocket science and maintenance isn't as extreme as you think.

    • @TheLongIslanderYT
      @TheLongIslanderYT 3 роки тому +1

      @@mesofius Never said it was rocket science lol.
      I just said that, realistically, it won't happen because it's easier to have an app on your phone versus a stationary display that needs more upkeep.
      It's not that it's complicated technologically to create this AR Glass wall, and in fact, it's very doable, but in the real world, the government would probably find it cheaper to distribute an app for the App Store or Play Store.
      Also, I was mostly referring to parks out in more remote areas, because that's where it seems impractical with a lot of the conditions.
      If we're specifically talking about Central Park in New York, however, it's actually a lot more feasible to do this, especially because Central Park is not a State or National Park out in a remote area. I agree that it would be great to see this in Central Park!
      (Though, hopefully, NYC doesn't go bankrupt in the following years since many people are leaving to go down to Florida and Texas D: )

    I'm liking how you make sure to say that all these devices have a low energy footprint, but I wonder about the manufacturing of your glass, surely this in itself is an energy intensive process? Does the low energy footprint of these devices help to balance the production cost of such glass?
    I also like how your new technologies suggest a greater community and social interaction, instead of being a factor in isolating people. However, in the classroom for example when the children are playing with colour on the interactive glass table, I do wonder what will happen to actual physical paints and the fun children experience by getting messy. Is your vision one where only technology is used in the classroom or is your vision one where technology enhances and improves the experiences that children already have in schools?
    That video conference wall idea is spectacular, I'd like to see that in many more places than hospitals, the fact that it is fully interactive is brilliant. Using glass as part of a sterile environment is also a great idea, but again, I wonder how much it would cost, both money and environment wise, to create such large amounts of glass with different properties.
    The glass wall on the kids school trip is also a fantastic idea, I would have wanted one of those when I was a child and it saves on the use of paper leaflets that, at the end of such trips, just get thrown away. Hopefully these glass screens would not be everywhere though, as it's just as important for kids to experience the outdoors without technology interfering! One of the massive problems with all of this is, as you mentioned, bandwidth for all of these great ideas. Another is storage/device memory, with what you're talking about those glass tablets would require massive amounts of data storage onboard, unless it uploaded everything that happened in a kids day to the net/cloud in which case the devices would need stupidly fast broadband!
    Obviously Corning Inc. are already thinking on the things I have mentioned and you guys are obviously thinking big by the sounds of it, just always make sure that you remember that technology should enhance an experience and not replace it; it seems like you're getting that bit right anyway for now! Keep creating brilliant solutions, thinking big for our future and making sure that whatever you do is green and good for the planet!

      If, according to Elon Musk, the travel cost to reach mars from earth would be $200k which is the price of a Morden day supercar, the glass production will be cheaper. Oh and internet speeds will also increase by a lot. 5g is about to be released and by 2025 to 2030, I believe there would be 7 or 8g internet available.

    Many versions of this video are being posted on UA-cam with titles such as 'life in the 2030's" or "a day in 2030".This has nothing to do with 2030's technologies. This is simply sensitive touch intelligent glass. We already have some of this technology today, it is just not for the consumer market yet and the main reason is cost.More accurately, this video represent scenario for 2018-2022 period, at the latest.The 2030's will usher in much more advanced technologies that we can only dream of today. By the 2030's we will have the following:1. General Artificial Intelligence (such as in the movie "Her"). This is what Google and dozens of other giant tech companies are working on feverously today and pouring hundreds of millions of dollars. Once we reach general artificial intelligence in the 2030's, this will radically disrupt the concept of employment, education, manufacturing, communication, health care and transportation. Reaching AGI will simply be a disruptive event. And you can bet by the 2030's we will reach this point.2. Biotechnology revolution in 2030's will allow medical miracles in healthcare. We will have individualized medicine, nanobots in our bodies to keep us healthy and detect and destroy cancers and other diseases. We will have our personal genomes scanned and analyzed individually. We will start to reprogram our biology away from diseases and begin to alter genes that cause diseases, aging, and other unwanted mutations. Healthcare of the 2030's due to biotechnology will seem almost like magic to a human being from 2015 and earlier.3. Robotics and nanotechnology of the 2030s will allow 100 % autonomous driving (where you can actually enter your destination and sleep while the car gets you to your intended destination). Car ownership will dramatically decline and will see autonomous vehicles used by Uber and Lyft where you can request them via an app and take you to your destination without a driver. transportation will become like a utility, will use it when we need it, of course autonomous, no driving for the human occupant. We will also have intelligent robots whether in humanoid form or not that can do most of the work a human can do and will see them everywhere. Also ubiquitous computing will be a reality and the beginning of holograms and 100% virtual reality that will replace teleconferencing of today with telepresence.All of what I have mentioned is being worked on TODAY, by tech giants like Google, Microsoft, Apple, Etc. So to title this video as technologies of the 2030's is simply laughable. Whenever I discuss technology and science progress as related to the next two decades 2020's and 2030's, I firmly believe and say that by the mid 2030's technology would be so advanced that compared to today it would be the same as comparing 2015 to 1940. And once we reach the 2040's, well, its a new era of transhumanism.

      Nawfel AlQuraini the only thing we need to keep in mind is the human part, people is going to become more and more lazy due to the lack of job variety being replaced by machines. So governments has to make advanced education programs, more health control to keep our lifespans stable, more enviromental-friendly regulations to compensate the earth back for all the damage we've done to it and more other things that will make us humans more elevated mentally as physically

Today even low & working class individuals have more creature comforts than he did - central heat, A/C, refrigeration, radio, TV, phones, stoves, flush toilets, running water, microwaves ... the list goes on and on. I have no doubt that someday this technology will be available widely and inexpensively for everyone.

    All of that school s*** sounds good, but, what about the pen and pencil?? I do want to have this technology, but I don't want to depend entirely on it. I still want to have access to pen / pencil / paper.
    I'm pretty sure that staring at these screens all day long will probably cause either a headache, or eventually screw our vision (needing to wear...CORNING GLASSES) D:

    Еще 10 лет назад такие технологии казались фантастикой, далеким будущем. Посмотрев это видео, я вдруг понял, что это далекое будущее не такое и далеко. Оно уже здесь, совсем рядом. Ведь большинство технологий уже изобретено, а те, что нет - будут реализованы в самое ближайшее время. Просто удивительно как быстро меняется мир.

    This is one of the best videos i have ever seen. Well done Corning. Better yet, BRILLIANT... I've developed some Apps for something very similar in my country. I've also developed the hardware for it as well. But like you said, it's pretty expensive at the moment, but the costs to develop this on a larger scale is slowly, but surely, coming down. Thank you Corning.

    I find this comment humorous to a degree, the applications of glass are staggering. From what you've seen above to self-cleaning, temperature regulation the possibilities are huge. F
    Further more glass is made primarily out of sand which we have lots of, and by the time we even start to develop and see this on large scales we will be "gods" and running out of material will not really matter to us for a very long time.

    Very futuristic, but the only problem that isn't considered here is that glass LED displays don't just paint their surface, they shine with light. That means that whether it's your car, your desktop, or your dining table, you are going to have bright light shining into your eyes at every minute of the day.
    Corning needs to support researchers who can discover a way to develop tablets and monitors that can create their colourful displays without weakening your eyesight.

    This is great but they only touch upon one type of smart glass. There are many types including SPD smart glass. Electrochromic glass takes many minutes to change while SPD technology changes in seconds and has many more features than electrochromic. Both exists today. It is seen in Mercedes Benz Magic Sky Control.

    From everything I have seen with these displays the best way to transfer data is to use WiMax. Because it doesn't need to send it very far just within the same room or within the same distance as a Class 2 Bluetooth transceiver. I am a die hard techie and love seeing the possibilities of what can be done with new techniques and technology. I would love to see move videos with where you are at in creating these new innovations.
