1988 i had a 71 nova with a 383 stroker 4 on the floor posi rear spent a shit load of money at super shops in downtown Riverside cali and at JNM speed center i put a cowel hood added 5 inches to it and dropped the front and rear suspension with some deep dish wheel in the rear and a camaro rear spoiler the ride height was so low i had to make the exhaust tubing somewhat flat but oped enough to flow my dad took some Thrush mufflers turned them into a 2 chamber. I made some side skirts out of cardboard and fiberglass installed a front Air Dam from a 69 Camaro molded it into the lower section of the front bumper and flipped a camaro rear valence to dit flush with the rear bumper at that time i was 20 year old and ahead of my time a lot of people aske what the vehicle was because i removed all the emblems and changed the center body line from front to rear
That was the first time Rob Mathis and I took the Wagon we did a burn out and there must have been a million camera's going off, got a $50.00 ticket on the spot, Cash only
I started going to the Nats when it was in Indy in 1980 and went 19 years in a row as a participant. Actually won attendance prizes 2-3 times. Even got in Hot Rod Mag from a shoot in Indy in 1981. These were the best summers of my life! Jeff D.
I have buy my first hot rod, popular hotrodding, and car craft magazines in this times. Here in germany . Here we have to this times only 1 magazine for us car fans. I was 15 !!! And now 2021 is extreme crazy to see a cam corder video with live pictures from this event !!!
Okay so wtf is up with this video. I know analog video, and i know the weird things people do to it to make it look widescreen to put it on youtube. 1988 there was only 4:3. By 2002 you could get a video 8 camera that synthetically makes a 16:9 picture. But that's impossible in 1988. Yet, its not top and bottom cropped because the graphic and date/time overlay are both in frame (although i've never seen a date and time that far from the side) Its not stretched because that makes everything look weird. So how the heck did you do this? The only thing left is this is faked, but it LOOKS like 1988. Have i been prisoner in the empty podcar purgatory of the 2010s when there's still a place its the 1980s out there somewhere? If so is there a 1970s as well??? I need answers!
it's in 4:3 on the desktop site, i wonder if it's something youtube does for mobile? i would love to have recorded all this in hd, but we're stuck with grainy vhs unfortunately.
@@monsterflake glad to have the grainy vhs, wouldn't be something i'd have watched if it were hd. No other vhs upload i've watched has done this, and i watch a lot of them to see what to buy for my own collection. Bizarre.
I remember getting ready to take a ride in Bigfoot at SMN and they fired that 460ci up and frigging ran. Scared the piss outta me. Now it's one of my biggest regrets. I was 6
Thanks for the video, back then my bro and I would go (as spectators) took some of my cars to the Nats in DUQUOIN until it went to Joliet, now that it's back in DUQUOIN. it sucks and I don't bother to go( the cars just don't measure up ) in my opinion.
Thanks for posting this clip. I used to go to Dupoin but think the Nationals went to Minnestota. Too far away. Is there a good car show in southern Illinois?
@@thetreblerebel This year sucked because of the rain. But, I have gone every year since they restarted it, and it is getting pretty dang good again. Forget about anything crazy during the cruise though.
Dart, some pretty damn tacky paint designs if you ask me, but what do I know, I only have degree's in fine art, art history, and commercial art/advertising design !? Not to mention I'm pretty old now, lol ! It never ceases to amaze me, the lack of creativity some people have, while attempting to show off their creativity !

Back then they would convert any type of car into a street rod !
