Life of Joseph: The Meeting - Genesis 42:1-24

Joseph finally has a dramatic meeting with the brothers who sold him into slavery. The brothers sense their guilt, and Joseph's position over them reminds us of Jesus with His people.

The brothers did not recognize Joseph firstly, because they were not looking for him. Genesis 42:13: But they said, “Your servants are twelve brothers in all, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan; and behold, the youngest is with our father today, and one is no longer alive.” They believed he was dead, so why would they be looking for him?

This is really good, Roy! Amen. Like Joseph’s brothers who didn’t recognize him, many will not recognize Jesus because they aren’t looking for Him. Wow.

They didn’t believe he was dead. They knew they sold him into slavery. They led their father to believe he was dead and that’s the story they told from that day forward. They certainly weren’t about to say and one we sold into slavery.

Jacob was terrified of losing his son, Benjamin, whom he had with Rachel. He had already lost his beloved son Joseph. His heart was broken. Jacob was not a helicopter parent.
