Damn, these videos give me immense nostalgia. I clearly remember being a green belt a few years ago and being hooked on this man's videos. Today I'm a brown belt and I stopped training a few months ago after getting upset with my sensei, and now, watching these videos again, I'm really thinking about going back to training at another dojō.
What happened with your sensei if you don't mind me asking? I had a similar situation happen. I left my dojo because my sensei was getting out of control with the exams. He gave us six pages worth of requirements for the tests, 50+ push-ups and sit-ups, a bunch of pull-ups, etc.
@@patbateman69420 It's okay to ask. Man, my case was the opposite from yours, my dojō was becoming one of those mc dojos, you know? People graduated even without being clearly aware of the correct execution of the kihons, and like, it's okay if it's a yellow or red belt, but there were green belts that graduated to the purple belt without even doing the kata. I clearly remember a green belt who, when doing the heian godan, he didn't do any stance, and he got the purple belt, like... This was upsetting me, plus it was clear that there was a certain preference among students, and the training sessions were always designed to the white belts - most of them children -, this significantly delayed my development in karate, like, we didn't even have sparring partners, so I decided to go look for a better dojō where I could improve my karate, and I found one a few meters from home, where there are more graduates belts and people train for real.
Kata Unsu hidden power One of the most advanced times in showstyle and according to many sites and majority opinions is the most difficult time of the show There are many complex hand techniques, one of which was very important at the time, and it was a very common time in the tournaments and championships, and most of the karate champions in the final stage chose this time and did it like Luca Validisi and many others who are active in doing this time need a very high level especially in balance, power, and chemicals.
@2bjjones You can of course learn the moves from UA-cam. But you cannot gain more than that without an experienced instructor. I have met many instructors in my time and trained with many of the great instructors including Kanazawa Sensei. They have insights into the moves, the breathing, the application and can give you feedback on how you are performing the kata. There is a saying in shotokan - one kata, three years, that is it takes three years to master one kata. I agree.
@alexrj2 to pass from 3rd to 4th, in France there is 5 katas: Nijushi Ho, Sochin, Jiin, Unsu and Tekki Sandan. You have to do 2: 1 you choose, the other at random; and many other things, like kihon, kumite and bunkai.
its not him the karateka in the video is shihan hirokazu kanazawa a 10th dan black belt and one of the students of gichin funakoshi and masatoshi nakayama
I've seen it, i agree that it's awesome. But i wouldn't be so sure about it resembling Kanazawas vision. My karate styles soke prefers to divide katas in to 2 categories: fight oriented and sport oriented. I think so too, and i would put Milon in "Sport oriented" and Kanazawa in "Fight oriented". Kanazawas priority probably wasn't to win tournaments, Milons was. Huge respect to both, they were the best at their thing.
@alexrj2 it is not JKA, not a lot in France, it is WKF. do traditional, it is even more complicated for 1st, 2nd and 3rd becaure you have : 1- kihon 2-ippon kumite 3- katas 4- bunkai 5- jiyu ippon kumlté 6- ju kumite but of course the level is lower than for 4th! how is it in your country?
All i did was the meditative part with sudden hand movements & muscle tightness on & off. My right shoulder injury flared up. What could I do to add to my healing plus pain regimen?

Sokutei mawashi-uke (Heian Godan etc. ) / mikashiki-geri (Bassai Dai etc.) is as well in 'roundhouse'-form, besides that, there are also mawashi-geri in Kata Kanku Shoo..
And you'll always will. No karateka, who has understanding to our martial art can say, that "I learned that kata perfectly, I have no work to be done with it anymore."

@pbzkfdt11 I believe so, After Hangetsu, only that Unsu has that difficult combination of slap kick / knee and sweep as you duck. all the other standard Kata can be done with a little time and effort. Having said that if you like take a look at Kata that was introduced after the 70's by the late Sensei Tetsuhiko Asai and the late Taiji Kase, not forgetting Kancho Hirokazu Kanazawa 10dan.......look for Heian Oyo, Nijuhachiho, Fushu, Kashu...
@leghead Sochin does build leg strength, but GAWD i hate that stance :D Wow! Thats seems a weird way of grading to me, I was taught you could get 2nd dans before the age of 16 though they are technically junior 2nd dans, then when you turn 16 you revert back to a 1st dan but this is then classed as an adult dan grade. Never heard of the way your doing it but i suppose its 6 and two 3's :)
@alexrj2 A lot. Going into my blackbelt test later this year, I have 14 to perform. My sensei knows many more, but he admits that he does not know all of them (he's a 5th Dan). Of course, Funakoshi O Sensei only practiced a handful--one only need to know a few to have enough to perfect for a lifetime--and many were developed after his death.
