But there is still one more question. The most importamt one simce the dawn of the universe.
Doctor who?
As a child I watched the first series of Dr Who (and many others). His grandaughter was one Susan Foreman. One of her teachers (I think it was Ian Chesterton, but I can't remember) addresses him as 'Dr Foreman', to which the Dr reples: 'Dr who?' So the answer is that his name is not Foreman (unless he just didn't hear what the teacher was saying. Not much of an answer, I'll give you, but we have at least eliminated one possible name (maybe)!
It’s 3 in the morning. When I can’t sleep from thinking to much, John’s list shows are one of the only things that can talk me down so I can get some rest. I just found out I need to put my senior aged cat to sleep, and I can’t say how grateful I am for this random video on character names tonight
We're hosting a Hangout on Air this Wednesday at 3p EST! You'll have a chance to meet the people behind-the-scenes of the show and ask them questions. If you could RSVP using the link the description, that'd help us know how many people to expect. Also, respond to this comment with a question and we'll be picking people to join the hangout :) -mark
So...Barbie and Ken are siblings...what's next Bert and Ernie are cousins!?
When I was a kid I thought they were brothers.
“Now that is a muppet who knows how to marry his cousin!”
Same
Another one that wasn't mentioned, Mental Floss, is the Phantom from 'The Phantom of the Opera'. In the original novel by Gaston Leroux (which the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical was based on), the Phantom's name is Erik.
The Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz also has a real name: Nick Chopper.
Kermit was originally called "Kermit the Frang", a non-descript creature. It was shortly after that it was changed to "Frog".
I wonder when we'll find out the Doctor's name.
His first name is Doctor. His last name is Who.
It's "THE".
Actually his name was shown in an earlier episode (while Galifrey was still a thing). It's some weird math symbol-y thing
WolfiePro1 do you mean the the galifrayen on his crib?
It's Satan. DUN DUN DUUUUN
I was hoping he would find the name of Timmy's dad from "The Fairly Odd Parents."
"My name is Timmy's Dad".
SupraViperhead I remember in one of the episodes, TImmy's dad said that his name was "Mom" before he was married, while Timmy's mom's name was…well "Bartholomew"
So Timmy's Mom's name isn't Mome as said in the barbarian episode.
Yep, before they were married. I think...
I am so disapointed by the fact that you failed to mention that Donald Duck's middle name is *Fauntleroy*. So disapointed. So I hope you make more name-related videos. Just so that you can mention it. Or just make a video about Donald.
Actually regarding Scooby's name,
It is actually Scoobert Cornelius Doo Esq.
That is his FULL name.
"I know how to say it because I was once a child" i love you
Huh
Just wanna say, love the videos and I love the magazine as well! Keep up the good work!
Yeah I could barely comprehend the question at the end because the ending theme was too loud.
The teacher's voice from Charlie Brown was a muted trombone not a trumpet. Anyway, you showed a euphonium in the graphic.
I found the band nerd.
+Matthew Fuller Jr. I'm pretty sure that was all intentional.
Chuck E. Cheese? CHUCK ENTERTAINMENT CHEESE TO YOU SIR!
EXCUSE ME?!?!? I’LL HAVE YOU KNOW IT IS “CHARLES” ENTERTAINMENT CHEESE…
My fav Mental Floss video!!
"Oh golly- Uh, what's your name?"
"They've never given me a name. I've been around since show one, and I still don't have a name!"
heres a fact lol when you say mental floss to fast.
you sound like your saying menopause :P
I knew Boomhauer's first name because in one episode he throws his wallet on the dresser and you can see his license. However, you guys spelled Boomhauer wrong. It has an "e" in it, as I spelled it. I believe he's also an electrical engineer but hat may have been a Texas ranger ID in the episode and not his license.
Which gives me an idea for an episode for you guys, Character's Jobs.
I didn't know that The Man in the Yellow Hat was also on "Knott's Landing."
You forgot the most important character of anonymity , The Doctor....
NathanLucas5 Truly.
Ah! Be awesome! I knew I was forgetting to do something today....
What about The Janitor from Scrubs?
Glenn Matthews
lol I busted up at "Don Limpio"...The way John says it is so great!
Whatever all know the evil queens name is Regina!
If you got that, we can be friends
+Zoe Wolf I UNDERSTOOD THAT REFERENCE.
we need more people like you on this earth.
Meene gurlz
It would by totally silly to call a Queen Regina, Regina is just Latin for Queen, and so she would be known as "Queen Queen"
Then again it's not illegal to be silly so go ahead and call her what you want :)
Regina mills is not impressed, shes proudly the evil Queen Queen.
Where did you get that shield?!
loved the little reference to paper towns
The Toys R Us giraffe was also referred to as Geoffrey. I saw it on a sign of him and I still remember it to this day. I don't remember what the sing said exactly, but I remember seeing the word "Geoffrey" because until that point, I thought the name was only spelled Jeffrey.
Awe I was hoping that thanks to his incredible research skills, he'd have found Penny's last name from Big Bang Theory.
Chuck Lorre doesn't even know what it is.
But John knows everything :(
prankpatrol89
That is a true fact right there:)
I was thinking something similar, except for Scrubs. The real name of the janitor will forever be shrouded in mystery.
Leo Tully The janitor's name WAS revealed in the final episode of scrubs [BEFORE it was brought back on a learning campus.]
Since I don't know when it'll be appropriate to post this otherwise... "The Master" from BBC's "Doctor Who" is actually called "Koschei".
hello -mark
The surgeon saying "is it water on the knee", if I am correct, is a fairly obscure reference to homestar runner. If it isn't, I will cry, and if it is, I love you all.
Vash the Stampede from Trigun could possibly be Valentinez Alkalinella Xifax Sicidabohertz Gombigobilla Blue Stradivari Talentrent Pierre Andri Charton-Haymoss Ivanovici Baldeus George Doitzel Kaiser III. My life is now complete.
This is the best comment in the entire comments section.
EmpressKaga Thank you, thank you very much.
My god that is difficult to say with a lisp.
Cierra Bain Its hard enough to say without a lisp!
Robert Graham I wouldn't know exactly how hard considering I have a natural lisp T^T
Why is there a picture of Big Bird while talking about Snuffleupagus?
Aloysius also has a smaller niece. Her name is Alice.
i.ytimg.com/vi/iHHAQ01eijQ/hqdefault.jpg
Every time he says "Mental Floss," I hear "menopause."
I love that John has a Cap Shield!
Ohhhhh, since seeing Gotham, I will never forget the name Oswald Cobblepot.
If that were my name, I would change it to Penguin too ... or ANYTHING else!
Really? Not since Batman Returns?
Plus what about the batman video games
Batman is Bruce Wayne!!!
The hell?!?!
Yeah right, and Richard Braniff is Ant Man.
Merry almost Christmas in July!
How did you guys set up the salon? It's really intriguing; all the paraphernalia, must've taken time to collect :)
what about the doctor?
Am I the only one having a bit of a fit because he said "........Sounded like a muted Trumpet....." but the image they showed was a T.C. Euphonium
John my sister LOVES your books
As soon as the video started, I knew that MacGyver was going to be mentioned. I used to watch old reruns with my aunt when I was younger. Love that show. :)
In Russia we call mr.clean - mr.propper
I knew Woody's last name was Pride already.
me too~
Yeah, but do you know about his cousin Steely Dan?
Oh my gosh where did you guys get your captain america shield?! I need one to complete my avenger themed room!
Funny thing about Wilson from Home Improvement. His name started expanding within the canon because of jokes they wrote for the show. By the time they were done, he was Wilson W. Wilson Jr.
Pharaoh from Yu-Gi-Oh: Atem.
Yami
What about the Iconic Wolverine. People like to think his name is Logan which is wrong. His name is James Howlett. HOW CAN YOU FORGET THE MOST ICONIC MAN IN COMIC BOOK HISTORY
you're right, he did forget to mention Superman.
Brian Buchanan
superman SUCKS
No Superman-NO WOLVERINE.
John Green is my favorite in the history of life. Ever.
Minch Yoda? For a moment there I thought you'd said Midge!
"Hmmm, nothing to me, this means..."
How many non-Trekkers know Captain Kirk's middle name is Tiberius, after the Roman Emperor? Or that Sir Patrick Stewart, who played Captain Jean-Luc Picard, played a Roman Emperor decades earlier in the BBC production of "I, Claudius?" And he had already gone bald even then, and decided to make his bald head a trademark rather than try to cover it with a wig.
Allan Richardson I know the Tiberius thing because my dad nicknamed my dog 'Vernon Tiberius D.O.G' after Captain Kirk
...his real name was Valentine
+Allan Richardson Patrick Stewart played Seianus... not an emperor. He died under Tiberius.
+IoEstasCedonta Thanks for the info. I wasn't paying enough attention to PBS when the series first aired, and when I saw sample clips from it in connection with trivia about Sir Patrick, I was too busy to look up and view the entire series. I only knew that he was in the series, and it just made sense that he would have played the lead role.
+Allan Richardson Or that his middle initial was originally revealed to be "R"?
+pigs18 That one went by me! Must be from pre-production drafts of the second pilot.
Penguins full name is actually Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot
What penguin?
What a coincidence i see one my favorite UA-camrs!
It looks like they stapled the Captain America's shield to the wall of the salon.
woody pride...... another disney inuendo
From Spongebob, Mrs. Puff's name is Poppy Puff!
Anyone know Timmy's parents' names from Fairly Oddparents?
nope
Pika Quaza Ahem....check the wiki
no, timmy's parents names
Pika Quaza oh my bad sry
There names are 🚚🚛🚚🚛 but most people just call them Mom and Dad
No one will ever be as cool as Poppin' Fresh.
That's exactly what I was going to ask!
Just started watching. Better give L. Lawliet's real name.
good episode, but ahhh... disappointment...
Max Spiegel totally agree XD
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!
Too bad he's not in here :(
Max Spiegel L Lawliet is his real name...
Horatio Magellan Crunch is actually a commander in the navy. As a future sailor in the US Navy, I know the ranks. A captain has four stripes on their sleeves and a commander has three. If you look on the box Captain Crunch has three sleeves.
Stripes*
You assume he is in the US Navy. It is actually the Royal Navy of Crunchtopia!
Perhaps they are going with the idea that the assigned commander of a naval vessel is called captain regardless of their actual rank.
It is like a complicated game of "eye-spy" where I try and recognize as many objects in the background while attempting to comprehend the immense stream of information coming at me from the video. It is intense, but I can't help myself...
I see Mental Floss, I hum "That's why I'm moving to Montana soon".
I'm whupped.
What about L?
i believe it was Lawliet, i forgot the first name though. Or is that the first name? since in japan, first name's are written last.
Close. Its L Lawliet. According to the wikis.
ohh. but now, I am even more intrigued, he's first name's still L. damn. lols
I'm surprised Yoshi's full name wasn't on here.
***** what is it
Yoshisaur T. Munchikoopas, I think. The 'T.' might be before the Yoshisaur part, not 100% sure.
***** The 'T.' comes first.
ahhh that's a good question! Also, when i studied in India, i realized that they don't shake their head from side to side for "no," they do a sort of head wobble in like a figure 8 motion...it's so interesting.
Glen Matthews!
Watch the last episode before med school... *shudders*... it's fabulous!
glad i'm not the only one
"it is a copyright trap - something I know a thing or two about" i saw your sneaky paper towns reference there mr green... :D
In the episode where he says his full name, but is drowned out by the school bell, Fez is literally naming all the other actors on the show in a random order.
I am happy that 99's true name was never revealed on Get Smart.
The sound of Mrs. Othmar was actually made with a trombone, also you used a picture of a baritone instead of a trumpet.
I'm kind of surprised if there hasn't been a Soup Kitchen Barbie.
The fictional town of Agloe, New York, was invented by map makers, but eventually became identified as a real place by its county administration because a building, the Agloe General Store, was erected at its fictional location. The "town" is featured in the novel Paper Towns by John Green. A character in the book has a dog named Myrna Mountweazel.
What about the character of Quincy, played by Jack Klugman. The only mention of a first name that I know of is the letter R on a business card.
In the UK on the channel Sky One, the continuity announcers would often say something along the lines of 'Coming up next, we join the Wilkerson family in Malcolm in the Middle.'
I think this surname was only ever mentioned in the pilot episode on Francis' name badge and one short bit of dialogue.
However, after this, it became a running joke that you're not supposed to know their surname, even though it had already been revealed. So it's kind of an odd one really.
Aw. And here I was hoping you might have asked Zuko what Combustion Man's real name was. :(
Fun video!
Can't believe they didn't throw down A.C. Slater (Albert Clifford) or Screetch (Samuel Powers).... Or even Shredder and Splinter (Aroko Saki and Hamato Yoshi)
The teacher's voice in the peanuts is done with a trombone and a plunger.
My question is (and I greatly hope it can be a MINI-Q rather than take an entire video's away): how many individual items do you have in that room (on the shelves and walls, in case it is a shooting room rather than a regular one), how long did it take to collect them all from day one to the last time you got one (approximated if nothing else), and finally, what is the most expensive single item, or paired items (such as you put two separate ones together that look really good)?
Malcolm's last name was actually revealed in the pilot episode through a name-tag francis wore that stated the last name was Wilkerson
Avatar wiki searches say the Cabbage Merchant has no known name, but he did have a son (in Legend of Korra) who was named Lau Gan-Lan. Nothing on the last names of Pokemon characters mentioned, but Joy is actually the last name of the nurses (Bulbapedia). The ice cream guy is referred to as... Ice-cream Man- according to Stitchipedia.
John is the best host
How long will the hangout last? I really want to come, but I don't get home until like 5 :(
Very obscure fact; The Pink Panther’s name is Jamie.
I love that you have a T.A.R.D.I.S 💕
You said her voice sounds like a muted trumpet, but the picture was of a euphonium.
well i have no idea who these are... i still liked it
Was that a The Green Mile reference at around 4:24? Or have I just been reading that book too often?
I recall reading somewhere that there was a suspected name for Norton's character. In the few Palahniuk novels I've read (which don't include Fight Club yet) I've noticed that the author does avoid names a bit.
When they were talking about the teacher sounding like a muted trumpet the instrument in the pic replacing her head was a baritone
That muted trumpet is in fact an Eb tenor horn, found in British Brass bands! I play one :D
how do u know these things?
Not too long ago, Dragonball creator Akira Toriyama gave some backstory to Androids No. 17 and No. 18, in which he revealed that as humans they were named respectively Lapis and Lazuli.
Awe I was hoping "the most interesting man in the world" would be in this list. XX
[2:40] #15 Actually, Miss Othmar was traditionally voiced by a muted trombone (not a trumpet) and the image you used was neither of a trumpet nor a trombone. To me it looks like either a Euphonium or a style of Tuba I've never seen before.
This is what I watch when I'm about to go to bed that reminds me to floss my teeth.
When I clock into work tomorrow, I'm going to ask where Dr. G. Raffe is.
Gerald Johanssen, and in an online chat with the creator of the show, it was revealed that Arnold's last name is Shortman.
