Just FYI: when you talk about 'getting a bad batch' of Pablos...a while back there was a HUGE problem with fake pencils being sold by Asian sellers, which were NOT AUTHENTIC!! I called Faber Castell to ask them if they were having that problem and they said YES, so they offered me a 50% discount that month if I purchased from them instead of buying through eBay, Amazon or other online sites.
Pablos are not made by Faber Castell - they are from Caran d'ache. So I'm confused. Or, do you just mean both Caran d'ache and FC were having issues with fake sellers? That is good to know though!
@@ColorfullyOptimistic : Yes, I am implying that other high end or professional brand pencils were fake/counterfeit by Chinese marketers, and being sold in stores as the name brand pencils (markers etc.) in places like S.E. Asia, Indonesia, etc. Many of these would then be bought up in large quantities and sold online to the American market, for "Great Deals" and sometimes almost as much as the high end brands would sell at stores (but slightly lower). The less the discount the more likely people were to think they were getting actual European or American brand pencils. The fakes were often quite good except they would do things like run, or streak with other colors, be scratchy, or have different types of wood barrels and smaller weaker cores, than the actual name brands.
I became suspicious after purchasing a small tin of a high end brand from an eBay seller and found them to be quite inferior to what I had purchased in open stock of that brand - so I wondered - hmmm, they are getting SO GOOD at counterfeiting things like designer clothes, bags, shoes etc. why not colored pencils? Sure enough...they were. SO you can't always blame the poor quality of your supposed "Pablo's" on Caran d'Ache or other manufacturers these days if you buy them from other than a reputable seller...like Blick's or the like. However, I heard that even some of the stores were being scammed...so that was why Faber Castell was running that special if customers bought directly from them, in order for their customers to be certain they were the real thing.
I recently rcvd my set from Amazon and the paint is glossy. Of course the tin was damaged but not too bad. This is my second set, I had to return the first. It was badly damaged and the pencils were in bad shape. My colored order on both were about the same as yours. This for your reviews. ❤

Yes, Pamela did it on her channel - I had actually recorded this before all of that and scheduled it to publish after :). But, I'll definitely go over that in my review since this was just my first impressions.
@@ColorfullyOptimistic : Some of their color names are incredibly funny (and fun) and in some cases not even remotely helpful. I've just finished swatching these in colour order, from Pamela's Passion for Pencils channel. It's good to have them grouped into colour families. I really like these for the price. Great for pictures you don't particularly care about but want a good result with. Even colour well on printer paper. Pablo's are my favourite pencils. They are a dream. So translucent. But I'm a layers girl and I don't use my Prismas very often at all, I find them so disappointingly opaque and greasy. We are all so different.
I've tried Pablos, but mine were scratchy. I have thought about trying them again just to see if it was a fluke, but not sure I want to risk spending that money again. These are definitely great pencils for the price though, but not something I think I can use a lot only because they go in and out of stock I fear I will run out of a color and not be able to replace it :(
@@ColorfullyOptimistic I started my Pablo journey with a set of 18 pencils and knew I loved them because I was able to complete a full double page spread in Johanna's Secret Garden with them and it looked like I'd used a much bigger set because of how they layered to create new colours. @@suewilkinson910 Yeah I have the Artist's and love them, but the Pablos I purchased were definitely scratchy. I might think of trying them again then...
Seems like members of the coloring community either love or hate the Pablos. Colour With Claire also disliked them, if I'm recalling correctly. Pablos are quite hard pencils. Even artist-quality pencils backed by respected brands like Caran d'Ache and Prismacolor will occasionally see some batches pass QC that shouldn't have, but generally speaking they should be much more reliable in terms of quality than the cheaply-produced ones that are sold under a countless number of names. And Caran d'Ache is highly responsive to feedback, so contacting them about your scratchy set might alert them to possible issues in their manufacturing process.
Yeah I find it interesting with Pablos how some love them and others just outright do not like them. I don't know what it is, but they just were not for me at all. Yes, for sure you can get some quality issues even with big brands, but they aren't repackaged and sold under multiple names making it hard to track them down. Caran d'ache is good at listening - so is Derwent actually! Prismacolor not-so-much, but I still buy them lol.
I haven't tried these but they look nice pencils for the price , castle art pencils have shot up in price same with Arteza , I don't think castle art is worth the new price tag . I liked them because they was affordable budget pencils
Yeah I have noticed Arteza getting more and more expensive, and while I like some stuff, the price is starting to no longer justify it, especially when I can get much higher quality for just a little more, ya know? Castle Arts I've always been iffy on, but that is sad to hear they are raising the price - they are definitely a budget pencil and no way should they charge more.

Which penceil sharpener is good for these pencils ?? I have a few and none of them fits them
😢
I used my Dahle 133 and it worked just fine. You can snag them on Amazon here: amzn.to/3fX7HFJ. It even fits my Felissimo's, which are thicker.
@@ColorfullyOptimistic OK, thanks. I have the Dale 133 and I will try it. I prefer "normal" pencil sharpeners that is why I don´t use my Dale that much.
@@sonjar.7400 ah. I love my Dahl. It has saved so many pencils of mine
I have the two hole Staedtler sharpener ( gray with the blue, removable top) and they fit great in the larger hole.
How to they compare to Castle Arts?
So, these are oil-based, and Castle Arts are wax-based. So, it is not a far comparison in that respect. That said, I like the color variations and the creaminess that Brutfuners bring, to be honest, and I have never been the biggest Castle Art fan.
What kind of paper did you use for this?
So, I have a favorite very smooth cardstock I use. It is called Astrobrights/Neenah Bright White Cardstock, and I do it on Sub & Save with Amazon for $6.64 per month. You can find it here: amzn.to/3lkoIub
@@ColorfullyOptimistic thanks for this 🥰
@@lindam.6782 if I wasn't too lazy in would drive out to there lol. Although I did just switch to a new smooth one that might be at Walmart too
I've just finished swatching these in colour order, from Pamela's Passion for Pencils channel.
I love them and now have the full set. Mine are not scratchy. They are a harder pencil, but not as hard as Derwent Artist pencils.
@@ColorfullyOptimistic yes it's A shame just greed when I first got 120 castle art I think they was around 40 pound , and now for price they pulling it's not budget price plus they don't come in single stock 🥰
@@DebbielovestoColour Yup, if they raise the price and offer no open stock, they end up costing more for less quality pencils. Yikes.
I agree.
For me Castle Arts is no longer worth it unless there’s a hefty discount.
@@lindam.6782 No, they shouldn't dissolve, but for me, it wasn't a big deaL. However, I tested the batch I have and I didn't have any movement with mine - so I think it is the newer batches? Not sure, but mine don't move with water anymore than a prismacolor would if I put water on it.
Every tin seems to be wrecked it seems, mine was too and every review can’t wait to get paid need new pencil cases buying museum aquarelle when I get paid and
I just got a back up set from a deal, and this tin was in good condition!
My brutfuners (120) having a round shape and the name brutfuner is on the pencil with a number....
Yes there are a few different versions of them out there, which can make it hard. I owned the round barrels in the past but these square ones are definitely not the same.
@@ColorfullyOptimistic Can you tell me the differents between those pencils before I buy them?
@@leola.books.and.coloring between the rounds and square? The round ones aren't as soft, were scratchy for me and didn't lay down like the square ones. I'll have my review up this week which I'll go over all of that in more detail.
@@ColorfullyOptimistic Ok, thanks for your answers. I'll wait for the review.
@@ColorfullyOptimistic This is a good video of a side by side comparison.. ua-cam.com/video/z1KXimWvS9A/v-deo.html
Just a heads up that if they following your link and these pencils are out of stock (which they often are), it will take them directly to the 180 set of pencils.
Yea they go in and out of stock 😬.
What's interesting is they sometimes are in stock for different people depending on where they live. I had a sold out message but a friend didn't.
Oh, the dreaded "out-of-order" colors, which everyone takes aparts and puts back in their own order, anyway. Then complains about this, at length. They cost about 2 dimes a piece, right?!
Another colorist out then in order by color family and translated the names to save us all the hassle!
They move during shipping, you have all of them
Yes. I ended up swatching them all on the video 😁
@@lindam.6782 That is very interesting. Sadly, with budget sets, you will get those issues, but if I really like the budget set, then I don't mind them - especially because it is not like I spent $200 on them.
the Chinese name is :本范儿
Good to know - thank you!
