I totally forgot about Minnesota picnic at the food court. Loved that place. This video is depressing, the mall is nothing like this anymore 😢. Great video though!
For something filmed 30 years ago, this is one of the most detailed independent videos that I’ve ever seen from the time period. Camcorders that could film landscapes that well were very hard to come by back then.
Camp Snoopy was my favorite place as a kid!! We were rewarded for good grades or good behavior with trips to Camp Snoopy. My family lived in suburban St. Paul so it was a pretty short trip but parking was always an issue, as it is today... when I was a kid in the late 90s, the Mall was packed every single day. It still is, but some days there's hardly anyone there. It's kind of sad. I remember it like this -- bustling and alive.
Ben Matern The MOA of the '90s is what I miss too - it was a magical time and place which will never return. Now, MOA is a bleak, joyless cesspool resembling an airport terminal.
For all of you younger kids at home watching. Back when Mall of America 1st opened it was originally called Camp Snoopy, & since there is that new Peanuts movie in theaters I will tell you a little back story. You see Snoopy was a pet of Charlie Brown. Charlie Brown, and Snoopy were part of an old Comic Strip/Cartoon TV Show back in the early/late 1900s. It was called Camp Snoopy before it became Nikelodeon Universe. I was very young when it was still known as Camp Snoopy.
Brady Anderson Just playing you youtubers can't take a joke to save your life. Camp Snoopy holds a special place in my heart, was a big part of my childhood.
core memory unlocked with the unicycle trapeze pair in Lego Land. Mapping memories I didn't remember I had. Camp Snoopy will always be superior to Nickelodeon Universe.
Interesting fact, during the opening months, Camp Snoopy had no overhead lights as you can see, just because the designers wanted that outside camp feel, they even had cricket sound effects coming from the speakers, but due to practical reasons they added them later
We talk to our friends, we had to bring some quarters for the payphone. Some people carried beepers/pagers around. Only rich people could afford cellphones back then and THEY WERE AS BIG AS A BRICK!
@starfish53 I was there weeks after it opened in 92 and I distinctly remember the cricket sound effects and the lack of lighting at night. The whole place was very magical and special to me as a kid. Suffice to say I can't say the same about what they've turned it into, Nickelodeon Universe kinda kills it for me >.
Still the same today. Well, except for the thefts. And the stabbings. And the kid being thrown over the balcony. So just a little 'culturally enriched.'
i don't know what this channel is about exactly, but something extremely cool about the VHS recordings of all this stuff. i bet this video could be used in a vaporwave music video or something.
What was the roller coaster called back in the old days (the one where it had the tunnel)? And I clearly remember when this was filmed for You're Invited to Mary-Kate & Ashley's Mall Party VHS
Starbase Omega was a blast. The teleportation effect you could watch from outside, the glowing foam rocks and boulders under the black light, I even remember the smell from the fog machines. Take me back to 1993 please.
Nickelodeon Universe getting rid of Jimmy Neutron's Atomic Collider is such a dumb decision... It was rare, and easily one of the best flatrides in the park.
It kept breaking and its parts were no longer in creation. A special order was made to give it a chence- it barely lasted 2 months after. Now only splat is still its original ride... It made *everyone* sad to let it go. -park worker
Hi there! I'm editing a short explainer video about the history of malls and would love to include a snippet or two of this wonderful archival video if you'd be willing to let me use it. I could make sure you're credited in the credits list. What's the best way to connect? Thanks in advance for considering.
@@DigitalNeohuman amazing, thank you! Shall I credit with your UA-cam handle or a different name? I'll let you know once it's done. Thanks again, much appreciated!
the mall doesn't really look much different at all. yeah they new theme is nickelodean but I still see some of the rides still there, like that red octopus looking one, the log chute, but i think the blue and yellow themed ride behind the old ticket stand is no longer there. that was my famorite rides and could take up to several dozen people making the waiting line very short. oh how I missed it. my first time there I was about 6/7 back in 2000/2001
I remeber going there for the first time in 2002. Appearently, it didn't look much different 10 years before, and it doesn't look much different today. Well, excpet for the Nickelodian bullshit.

I'm sad about this, too.

I was born 96' so I was fortunate enough to enjoy camp snoopy in the early 2000. Sadly it doesnt feel the same with the Nickelodeon overhaul

THATS WHATS MISSING!!
The cricket sounds!
It *been* bugginme xD
Should have kept it the way it was designed to be. Some cry baby is probably the reason it had to change
Oh ok I thought it looked darker than usual!

No smartphones, very little diversity...back when I was proud to be American!
Diversity..?
I love Mall of America, I live 10 minutes from the mall and go there all the time. The log chute ride is the best
It use to be so cool
and thats why the floor constantly raises and dips
to give it a terraneous feel,
