On "My Car Story" we're in Flint MI on 6-27-15 at the Sloan Museum 43rd Annual Auto Fair.
We're looking at a 1977 General Motors GM Phantom Concept Car.
We’re talking with Jeremy Dimick, the Curator of Collections at The Sloan Longway Musuem.
According to the details shared on the Sloan Museums website regarding the 1977 General Motors GM Phantom Concept Car:
The General Motors Phantom is the creation of Bill Mitchell, one of the automobile industry's best known designers. He designed the 1938 Cadillac Sixty Special and put tail fins on the 1948 Cadillac's. Mitchell also designed the 1963 and 1968 Chevrolet Corvettes. He retired in 1977 as the director of General Motors Styling Division.
Mitchell's last project at GM was the Phantom. Unlike most experimental cars that flaunt new styling, the Phantom is simply a personal expression of Mitchell. "This is the kind of car I'd like to drive," Mitchell later stated.
As a prototype, this car is merely a fiberglass shell and therefore inoperable.
    Quick Facts
    Year: 1977
    Make: Buick
    Model: Phantom
    Engine: none
    Units Produced: 1

Redesign the lights and the hubcaps and you could probably sell that design as a modern super car.

The lights and hubcaps look good for that era, but they are to plane and square for my taste. Classy sedan looking, but too 70s.

I met Bill Mitchell in 1979 and knew about this car as the Pontiac Phantom. He described it as " the next generation of Grand Prix" and foresaw this as the style leader for the 1980s. Unfortunately what we got from GM instead was a generation of cheaply built econoboxes which car guys call the "Malaise" era of lack of style or imagination by American car companies.

@@loucostabile Thanks! You can tell this car was intended to be a Pontiac with the Arrow emblem in the front nose design. I did not know this was not a fully functional car. It was a prototype that never got to a roadworthy car. Thanks for sharing, Lou.
