Used to quite fancy Maureen Lipman even though I was only 18 back in 1982.

BRILLIANT!
Maureen Lipman is one of the most under-appreciated of British actors, and screamingly funny when playing comedy. I remember seeing her in a one woman show on the West End. Her stand-up comedy in the first half was better than any female stand-up I've ever seen, and her acting in the second-half sketches was on a level only comparable to Maggie Smith or Vanessa Redgrave.

This TV appearance took place the week after Her Majesty's armed forces retook the Falklands, incidentally. Maureen gives a spot-on impersonation of Mrs. Thatcher's vocal development here. She should've included the PM's impromptu Downing St. statement on the Falklands victory (maybe Maureen did; this clip runs only 2 mins). Rule Britannia!

As it turns out, the joke was on Miss Lipman . . .
not really she'd rather the tories stayed in than an actual left Labour, she did her small part to ensure that at the last election. It's clear to see from this old clip even back then there's a sneaky admiration for MT from her expressions.
