- This is an AWESOME live performance of his classic song ~ Countdown (one of my faves) followed by an AWESOME interview with him from a 1992 late night show (to promote his Out Of The Cradle solo album). This was Lindsey's 1st ever appearance on this show.
This is one of my all-time favorite Lindsey performances and interviews!! He sounds and looks AWESOME!! He and Dave are hilarious!! I crack up everytime I watch this interview.

Enjoy!! ~Jackie (:
That whole album was a masterpiece. Still holds up 30 years later.
Absolutely. One of my all time favourites
Lindsey has a classic style all his own.... He is one of the best out there.
Words can not explain the greatness of this song and performance! 👊👊🥂
En plus il est tellement humble et sympathique 😊
The most exhilarating rush on that thrill ride of an album, "Out Of The Cradle."
What an amazing performance of one of my favorite songs of all time! Lindsey Buckingham is a singer, songwriter & guitar god!
Look at the musicians around him, they are clearly having tons of fun just being around that musical energy
Best of all gods
Absolutely! And it was cool the way Lindsey kept looking back at them.
They started off okay, and then Lindsey’s leadership kicked in like he did with Fleetwood Mac, and the whole band tightened up and played flawlessly toward the end. Magnificent.
Such a great musician
People don't talk enough about this, but this is the period when his singing got really good, probably hit it's pinnacle in 1997's the Dance. Unique, and powerful. Obviously the guitar playing, but his voice is instantly recognizable and unique.
lindsey kicks total ass here, my favorite song from him
Chris Ruiz, Mine too
Unf! I could just stare at this man all day :)
Get a life!
You're not the only one!
No one in the history of American rock has combined Buckingham's staggering virtuoso musical ability with popular success.
prince
they have some things in common
Yes, Prince. The two of them have/had it all: songwriting, production, playing, voice and look.
Todd Rundgren minus the sales numbers
Paul McCartney
great guitar great vocal great song and performance
Amazes me that he never (well, RARELY) uses a pick. Just an incredibly talented, phenomenal artist.
He uses one a bit in the studio at times.. he is the reason I rarely use a pick
Lindsey is my favorite guitar player
Aaaaah I love this; best version of Countdown EVER!!!!
love this song so much...he should have been one of The Traveling Wilburys!!! This whole record is as good as anything he did with the Mac
To see him alongside Tom Petty would’ve been amazing
Yes, never thought of this, but yes!!!
Better, even
Brilliant performance!!. I never tire of watching it!!. The comment about Lindsey not working as hard as Stevie that someone wrote is hilarious! People need to know there music really!! Lindsey has worked about 50 times harder than Stevie!!. He is the mastermind behind all Fleetwood Mac's best work including Stevie Nicks's songs!!. What a guitar player!! the solo at the end of this song is Lindsey at his brilliant best!!
Jamilh Lindsey would stay at the recording studio all hours to get the arrangements just right. There is no one like him, he's a musical genius.
Truely a legand of rock whom could never be replaced nor forgotten.stay healthy my man.this virus is some ugly shit.loved you for forty years.😍
Stevie doesn’t have 10% of the talent or work ethic that Lindsey has
That's why he's wort $300 million. The richest of the Fleetwood Mac band
Straight out great.
He is the best flat top guitar player to ever walk the earth.
One of the MASTERS of POP songs!!!!
Hard to believe nobody has yet commented on how terrific Paul and his band were in backing Lindsey on this song. You don't create this lasting a performance with a second rate band. The mandolin player and the guy playing the high arpeggios on the Rick are Lindsey sidemen, but the rest is all the Worlds Most Dangerous Band! Will, in particular, plays some mighty tasty bass licks!
OH MY GOD! This is amazing.. and Lindsey is just gorgeous. Wow. I will always love him. Thanks for posting this!
Another great song by the genius master...love it...and a beauty performance of coarse...awesome...great job lindsey...
One of my favorites by LB. Right there with Holiday Road
Lindsay’s energy is infectious
Thats so beautiful... The purest moment is when everyone is having a damn great time and is not affraid to show it!!! Gorra love Lindsey, what an awesome talent he is
He is very smart. He doesn’t need to be rude or arrogant. He is humble, kind and has a terrific sense of humour. His professionalism in all he does shines through, His song writing, and command of the guitar are second to none!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤K.
Buckingham is one of the top 20 guitarists of all-time!
CollapseN2murmur Not only do I agree with you, but I’d even go as far as saying top 10. This is coming from a guitarist who knows a ton about guitarists and other musicians.
ATalkingBadger I’m gonna go even further and say top 5, he’s right up there with Clapton, Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Prince... can’t really say that any of them are better than Lindsey tbh
@@zodspeed remove Keith Richards and add Beck.
He is definitely in top 20. But don't forget Joe Bonamassa, Derek Trucks, Eric Clapton, JJ Cale, Neil Young, Lee Ritenour, Steve Lukather, Angus Young, Brent Mason, Chet Atkins, Pete Townshend, Rory Gallagher, BB King, Mark Knopfler, Stevie Ray Vaughan, George Benson, Pat Metheny, Paco de Lucia, Charlie Sexton, Ace Frehley, Robben Ford, John Jorgenson, Allan Holdsworth and Lenny Breau
you forgot david gilmour, zappa, randy rhoads, EVH, peter green, tony iommi, steve vai, ritchie blackmore, jeff beck, alex lifeson, joe satriani, billy gibbons, terry kath, john frusciante, etc
The smiles that LB and the drummer exchange at 2:15 is the sweetest moment on UA-cam. Pure musical joy (probably with some backstory).
(....... It's too slow of a drumming.....)
The way the backing guitarists stand here in a kind of awe as LB goes and does his thing is kind of how I see Fleetwood Mac performing on their 2018 tour.
Hard to believe nearly 20 YEARS have passed since this! Damn time flies!
Now almost 30!
12 years have passed since you commented that it was almost 20 years ago. That probably feels weird.
Best wishes for everyone from April 10th 2023, 2 :5 0 AM.
it's August 19th, 2023, and I've just discovered this performance! i absolutely adore it
God that guitar sounds so good to me
I love Lindsey Buckingham he is the greatest . I listened to his music every single day and I always play at least two or three of his songs. I love listening to him play guitar and sing and he's just the greatest
A friend of mine was teaching me drums and countdown was one of the first I learned. I love this song, especially the tone he got on his solos on the recording. Unfortunately my friend committed suicide after a diagnosis of early stage dementia. Kinda bittersweet. Rip Curt
1 of my favorite Lindsey live clips ever!!!
prayers for a speedy recovery on your heart attack and hope the vocal chords will get back to 100 percent!
Really!?? Just casually strolled in here to once again watch this fantastic clip, and then I read this...
@@jaolin6042 Lindsey had a heart attack, his vocal chords were damaged in the intubation. Prayers for Lindsey hope he is back soon, I miss him.
He has recovered well and recently did live performance internet and gave us a week to see it because of site crash 1/2 way through. He is doing awesome. Concert for ACLU something
@@SandyLee60
(: That is really good to know!!!!! ... ❤
I didn't know he had a heart attack!!!!! ... 😢 So sad to hear that!!!!! ... 😢
I like this performance and love lindsey, I really like "trouble" that song brings back the 80's. And that solo here, pretty schweet
Super fantastic upload of the highest quality. Impeccable guitar playing here.
Thanks for your great comment!! Glad that you love this one as much as I do. (:
30 years later- I’m still at least 10x weekly listening to this incredible song!
guitar genius
This whole album is spectacular.
Lindsey, how I adore your guitar playing!
I am not sure there were many better looking men in the world at this time than Mr. Buckingham.
this man is my dream
You can really feel that the words flow out of Lindsey after all those appearances on What Up With That!
El mejor guitarrista del mundoooooooooooo
One of my favorites by LB. Its right up there with Holiday Road
So gorgeous.
I love this song and I love LB.
10/10
Amazing live version, adorable!!
I'm glad someone got this up where the sound is good! I remember when he was on Letterman this night. Awesome.
Love the song!
I am a rock/guitar solos fan. I love listening to works from Metallica, Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin, Queen, RHCP to The Scorpions, The Eagles and even Aerosmith. I am following their music since 10 years. I feel good about myself that I have a good music taste and can recognize a tune when it is played.
I listened to Lindsey Buckingham in an SNL skit called 'What up with that?' yesterday. I was like 'What's up with that Solo. How did I not hear it once in ten year?' I am just hooked now.
Just simply awesome!
I LIKE YOUR MUSIC!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS
This song gives me hope
Bravo! Love!
Expectacular ❤❤❤
awesome. Lindsey .
FN incredible!!
Comment fait il pour arriver à une telle perfomance😮❤❤
4 years in the making - hang in there!
I think his blessing/curse is that he is quite a perfectionist. It takes him longer to get things they way he wants. Most of the stuff I have heard from him is great stuff. You could say he is less prolific, but I think it stems from his need to get things just right. Just want to add that I also think he is a very underrated guitarist.
He is the master !
I agree with you, except for the one thing. In my opinion, he worked much harder than Stevie.
How did he work harder than her? For the years of their relationship, she was the one working doing odd jobs making money while he was working on their music. I think they worked just as hard as one another in the business. Lindsey's solo career NEVER matched Stevie's in terms of success or touring. Does that make Lindsey less? No. Does it make Stevie more? No. They are equal in my eyes. Both spent decades working their asses off.
I would argue that Lindsey is the harder working of the two. it’s harder to sing and play an instrument than just sing.
Lindsey has nearly everything going for him: looks, talent, skill, hard work, etc. The one thing where he’s outmatched by Stevie is charisma and stage presence. His videos are much deeper, but he comes off slightly dorky. Stevie just clomps up and down some steps or grabs a handful of skirt, but somehow manages to look cool, and edgy, and iconic as she fixes her hair or breaks into a smile, forgetting the lyrics in her videos. She’s otherworldly and ethereal, in spite of herself. She’s the one the audience can’t look away from.
@@jimhaggard7436 you would argue. We will just leave it at that.
100% I agree that Lindsey worked harder. It took Fleetwood Mac almost 2 years to make Tango in the Night and Stevie was there for about 2 weeks of the recording which was so infrequent that they had to leave a lot of her stuff off the record because there were no good cuts of her parts. "Nicks would ask for brandy, drink a few shots, and run through "four or five songs" intoxicated. Because of this, Buckingham had to remove most of Nicks' vocals." Since she was so absent for this he used a fairlight to mimic her vocals which is why people think its her doing the grunts on Big Love. During Tusk too Lindsey even played a lot of the drums on most of the tracks on top of deciding the musical direction, producing the cuts, playing the guitar, and playing some of the piano parts.
I came for Lindsey Buckingham....stayed for the jam.
❤ que. Lindo Lindsey y que. Hermosa cancion❤
bliss4jules ~ I agree. Thanks for commenting!! (:
Excelentemente espectacular
@TNO73 ~ Thanks for commenting and for viewing my video!! (:
Great song
I agree. Thanks for your comment!! (:
@ScottDaveMusic ~ Thanks a bunch for another great comment!! I agree with you. (:
Love it 😍
awesome
Sounds a little cruncher than on the album. I like it!
This solo should have been about an hour long 🕺🎸
The man can play that axe!
I discovered this song yesterday and my only complaint is because I did not do it before ...
Awesome ❤
Oh I argued with my mom to stay up late and watch this. She hated him. I won
Pretty sure this is the ONLY time LB has ever performed this song live - my favorite tune off of his amazing Out of the Cradle CD.
Lindsey kicks ass!!!
One of the reasons Lindsey had to put off this album was Stevie's complete unreliability during the making of Tango In the Night. It was an open secret that she was under the demon spell of cocaine during that time and she often didn't bother to show up at the studio. Lindsey, subjugated his own work to help finish this album, the pressures of which, helped finish his stint with FM at that time.
Shawn McLaughlin True, I believe Lindsey used a "Fairlight" to sample her voice from other songs.?
so how long was he on coke? 10 yrs longer?
tara willis My understanding was they both started around 1975-77. He stopped in 1983 When things got crazy between he and his then girlfriend. That is my memory of it. I can’t find anything definitive online.
@@shawnuel i meant to say her. stevie sorry
tara willis Oh.....I have seen many interviews with Stevie where she has talked about this but I think she got clean 3-5 years later, circa 1990-1992.
@darkgammaknight yeah his guitarist hurt his back, i was gutted and upset but i still love him :)
Brought the fucking house down! Bravo!
allsetnow1 ~ Very true. (:
Lindsey is eternal
@Lecy1982
true =)
so much emotion and intensity aaawww
The one dislike was Jay Leno.
David Letterman needs to be employed everywhere
Lindsey is such a huge musician, his music is so tasty and badass at the same time. As a latino I prefer his groove any day over all the crappy tropical stuff.
Thanks so much!! I REALLY appreciate that!! (:
Grande Lind🎉🎉🎉🎉
@wtcvidman yep big love was supposed to be for his solo album but it got hijacked for tango in the night. he will laugh and say the same thing happened with say you will in 2003 - meant to be a solo album, folded into an FM album.
You're VERY sweet. THANK YOU SO MUCH!! (:
I'm baffled how someone this good at his art as Lindsey can be so humble. So many utterly untalented artists are a hundred times more arrogant.
Sadly, I think this is why Lindsey never gets the recognition of his achievements and influence outside the most knowledgeable guitarists, critics, and fans. ☹☹
He is smart. Ultra talented. He has no need to be anything other than himself. He is humble, kind and very professional in all he does. He is second to none as a songwriter and guitarist. Not bad really as he does not read music. WOW. I love him in everything he does. ❤❤❤❤❤❤K.
There's something about this song that is NY pure
Thanks so much!! (:
I always hear that Jimi Hendrix was the greatest guitarist but imo I think it's who sounds the best. Buckingham, Harrison, Gilmore, Page, Clapton, Blackmore, Santana all sound better to me than Jimi does. Buckingham sounds as good as any of them.
c2itccase9 Jeff Beck too.
Diego Ferreira Rivers Cuomo, too!
Agreed Buckingham is that good
I am waiting on the countdown
