  • I installed this backup sump pump and I would have to say it definitely the way to go if you want to minimize the risk of your basement flooding due to your main sump pump going bad.

I’ve put in a couple of those. Peace of mind if power goes out. I’ve plumbed the output separately outside to the yard in case there is a clog in the main sump drain.

Maybe we have different manuals but in the safety precautions notices #6 and installation section 4th bullet addresses this. Maybe our manuals are different revisions just trying to be helpful 😊

I have this sump pump unit--its 2 years old. It was professionally installed. we live on pretty dry ground but twice a year I test it both in electric mode and in back up mode too--I test it two times each mode ( 4 checks ) and I do this by pouring water in the sump ---but---when it shuts off its very loud ! --any ideas ?--am quote pleased with this otherwise

Looks good, but I think you should have a second line running out of the house and not using the same line for your back up

Not a bad idea but this is the standard installation per manufacturer.

@@JimSperanza in the installation manual it says to run a separate line..
That being said did yours work fine? Im not running a second 55' long 4' deep drain run and i'd use it like u

My manual clearly shows exactly how I did mine. Regardless there's no reason to not use the same line unless your concern is complete redundancy.

I'm considering buying one but I am concerned about the quality. Can these pumps handle the psi ? Just think about it, your primary pump goes out and the Liberty backup pump comes to the rescue, then suddenly it implodes and now you have 80 psi of water flooding in. Its a pro and con seldom discussed. City water is not exactly regulated, its been known to hit 140 at times. So now for piece of mind I would need the pump and a pressure regulator valve.

You should have a pressure regulator and backflow preventer anyway.

Does that have a built in check valve on drain side?

It does not. The directions showed to bypass it. Not sure why.

Now that I think of it that's probably why it says to bypass the existing one.

Actually it does have a built in check valve. That is why it says do not cut. That is where the check value is.
