I personally would’ve tried to straighten that bumper out first, test fit, maybe even cut the damaged area apart to straighten it up & re-weld it ??? No matter what though a nice ARB bumper is worth saving and re using, the style is perfect for that Land Cruiser. Keep up the cool videos!!!
Spreading that awareness for the classic and iconic ARB Bull Bar! Awesome!! I have had a kink for these bumpers for as long as i can remember. I've had them on multiple jeeps now and still pick them up used when the deals present themselves. I am often floored when i'm asked if i made the bumper myself OR they've never even heard of them. Great little install project to share
FYI, I have the same bumper on my FJ62 and learned that’s those aren’t approved recovery points. I’ve seen posts from Aussies saying they have ripped those mounts out of their bumper trying to use them for vehicle recoveries. I’ve only used mine for yanking a downed tree off a trail. Love the Land Cruiser content!
Such a classic look! I was thrilled when I got my '99 Discovery 1 that the previous owner had put an ARB bull bar on it. The cost of the bumper alone was 50% of what I paid for the whole truck!
My all time favorite 4X4. I had a 1993 80 series for 9 years straight. Loved it. But I live in the Northeast, so….. Great video as always! Thank you! 😊
I had that same bar, it came off the poverty pack (no flares) 80 series and was most often paired with the high mount warn winch. I got my bar from a wrecking yard but it was tweaked too. I ended up selling it for a case of beer as no one wanted one back then.
You can absolutely run a roller fairlead with synthetic winch cable, and it is preferred. The enemy of synthetic is friction which is reduced with a roller fairlead. The only caveat is if you're winching at extreme angles you could pinch the rope in the corners of the fairlead, but I'd say if you're at that crazy of an angle you need to rethink your rigging anyway. The only downside to a roller is how far it sticks out, which matters for some bumpers but not the ARB.
Interestingly, the Slee bumpers start at 8k and max at 9.5k. When my truck was full done with homemade drawer in back and fridge, Slee dual swing out with fuel and water and spare etc. i was at 7300. They get heavy fast.
The 38 year old cable on my 8274 finally broke on the new years ride at Hawk Pride mountain. Cut the most abused first 50' off still got 100' of good cable . Y'all can keep that rope crap. Saw six of those break in one year two brand new .
That's not a recovery point. It's just a place to hook your winch to. You're supposed to reuse factory tow hooks or (better) get some beefier ones. Otherwise. Love seeing land cruiser stuff on your Channel
Really enjoy your videos! I know we all have a different opinion of how we would have tackled aligning that bumper. Keep up the good work and motivating everyone!!!
Just having an ARB bar fitted to my 300 series it is not something you can do like the good old days. Cameras, sensors, lights etc . Then cutting body work best left to the professional fitters now.🇦🇺🍺
Hey Fred on my ARB bumper I used the roller fairlead as mine is recessed a bit into the bumper. So with a hawse one mine it would cut through the synthetic line on any type os a side pull.
Those ARB bars are the best. Yours looks like it may have had the centre section modified to suit a Warn Hi Mount, which would look incredible, but might not suit to budget nature if this build. Those “recovery points” are just tie down points when the truck was on a ship and aren’t really suited to the potential shock loads when recovering 👍🏻
I'm happy to see more content, brother. I enjoy watching you build rigs, I am more of a classic car guy, but I have to admit I wish I would of kept my 80 bronco instead of giving it to my son lol, but I want a 78 or 79 bronco anyways 😀.
@4xFredWilliams was the first online resources I used, when I built my Landcruiser 62, 10 years ago. He is still my go to for great Landcruiser content.
gday Fred i have 80s myself had it for 17 years now 1HDFT Diesel Manual those mount you took off on the bottom of the rails are not rated they break they are only design to hold the car down on the boat mine has a 4inch lift and running 315/75/16 tyres they go anywhere with a locker in the rear
Lol like first thing your going smash the truck into a big ass rock anyhow great video you and Dave are doing good on UA-cam more trail rides go get lost
Bull bar or roo bar. Same thing but you’re far more likely to hit a kangaroo than a bull. Wife hit one with a Toyota Corolla no roo bar. She was lucky it didn’t kill her. Minor dent on Corolla.
Still enjoying the format. Just a dude talking and working and no f-ing background music blaring.
exactly. the kind of videos i want to watch
I concur!!
Every time I see Fred's lift, I get jealous.. Always great to see a new Dirt Daily!
I love the mind towards budget and reusing and re-purposing.
I think it looks great, used truck, used bumper, older winch, some frame tie ins for recovery points then some meats, and go find a trail!
Per the ARB instructions, you can either wire the bumper amber lights into your corner running lights or turn signal light. Your choice.
Nice to see you working on the 80. Your knowledge of working with different makes is great to see.

Seems like that corner would have been the perfect time to introduce another generation to the “Inflate a football” technique of dent repair.
Fred you can use a roller fairlead for rope winch line…I do
Thanks Fred. Good project. If MT was smart, they’d get you & Dave back together for some more great “adventures”.

In Aus There pretty much isn't a landcruiser without an ARB or TJM bullbar. It's so strange to see factory bumper
Excited your working on the 80 now 👍🏽

Another great video. Just love to see you working on your crap!! Thanks for the time you spend to give us content. Thanks.

Almost miss building 4x4’s watching your videos. Then I remember I’m in Michigan
I’ve done the same truck before. Bent the aluminum bumper on my Tacoma and used the winch on my 4Runner to pull it straight. Worked like a charm!

Yup. I’m running a roller fair lead on my 80. I Lightly ran like 2000 grit sand paper to smooth out the rollers but good to go.
Freddy drops a 30 minute clip?!? What in the H?!? 😆
Always fun to tag along with ya
Tie the driver side and the other side to a tree and give it a good tug. Works every time lol

Ahhhh....another dose of 4xFred. I'm in my happy place now :)

Otherwise. Love seeing land cruiser stuff on your Channel
Great video. I love the yota. Its a projet the average person would build. On a budget with used parts. I didn't know your last name was Kruger lol
Really enjoy your videos! I know we all have a different opinion of how we would have tackled aligning that bumper. Keep up the good work and motivating everyone!!!
Don’t sweat it Fred. I found out the hard way those tabs are not rated recovery points on an ARB.
Always fun to see you work!
ARB made two bull bars also Fred one with flares and one without the one you have is without flares
Love Dirt Daily videos!!! Nice work, Fred!!

In Australia they also call em Roo Bars
Keep it up Fred,
The bottom mounting bolts for the winch also hold the farelead on ffs
Just take it outside and tie it to a tree 🌲 and tug!! Lol. That would definitely work

Cheap is always for a reason.
It's up to you to decipher that reason. ALWAYS
🤟😎🤘
My 94 weighs 5200 lbs with 17” bead lock wheels and 35” tires
Love that style bumper as well. Wish I could find one for a Gladiator.

Looks pretty good
"Kattywompass" what a great word :)😁
Lol like first thing your going smash the truck into a big ass rock anyhow great video you and Dave are doing good on UA-cam more trail rides go get lost
He hit a bull with that bent side Fred! Good story anyway...
Dang Fred check out Dissent Offroad. NorCal Land Cruiser company making nice bumpers
Why not spray the lube on the threads of the bolts where they come through instead of the heads? That's how we do it in the rust belt.
Story of my life saving time and money then spending 3 days re working my purchase. 😂😂😂
Maybe a stupid question... why doesn't the roller style fairlead work with synthetic line?
Recycling!
Hi Fred!
Its a roobar in western Australia (Perth) not a bulldar there's lots of kangaroos and no bulls around here lol
Met a few Auzzies in my life. Definitely, “No bull” types.
They should call these Arb bumpers kangaroo bar
Yay!
Was newbsock in park?😮
porta power from frame to bumper?
Is that your Freddie Krueger shirt? Lol 😂
Bull bar or roo bar. Same thing but you’re far more likely to hit a kangaroo than a bull. Wife hit one with a Toyota Corolla no roo bar. She was lucky it didn’t kill her. Minor dent on Corolla.
Mint 🤘
That is the same bumper I had on my Defender. Overkill for the UK...
can we go offroading now?
I think that those catch Kangaroos pretty often in Australia.
Your swing that hammer like a purse, hahaha
Black Dewalt tool kit
Using a cherry picker might have worked easier
Procrastinating? Maybe sometime soon we will try to address that problem
Dirt Heads Rule !
Next time buy a fairlead from Dirtlifestyle!!!
They call them roo bars. Because kangaroo.
Beat it on there like it owes you money.
Its a bumper for suicidal kangaroo's
In Australia
Ya got to watch out for jumping Wombats…🇦🇺🦘
Dude! Looks like you lost a few
Pounds…
ARB bumpers absolutely suck IMO. look nice but kinda pointless as they're so easy to tweak
Fred I took you for a guy that used wood to beat on with a sledge instead of metal to metal 🫣😰
porta power
