@waitin4winter @waitin4winter I was at the show! Literally thought of both of those guys! Haha I was crackin' up. Too bad Charlie Wilson wasn't there but he was fantastic.
If the day comes when Fender decides to give ME a rosewood strat as a gift, I will... I don't fucking know, I'll just be indescribably happy and grin like an idiot for the rest of my life.
that's the direction he's taking now for a while, you need to respect the artist and let them grow, not put them in the bubble. I'm sure he'll always play the old stuff at shows to keep old fans happy while getting new ones.
If the guy is playing for John Mayer, that means he is better than 99% of drummers in the entire world. Just because he doesn't have black man rhythm doesn't mean he's bad.
@feffany This and Belief makes for my warming up set after even touching my guitar. It will refuse doing any notes if Vultures aint booming outta my speakers. And it's totally right!
As a drummer I would say that the fact that this feels different compared to Steve mostly because of the sound engineer. If no one saw the drummer and they thought it was Steve, no one would complain...
@TheApartmentSessions Thanks for moderating my posts! You're like the government; how so? Taking credit for things that aren't yours and censoring people and their right to say whatever they want. Just because I may say things that you don't like doesn't make it right to block me and what I say. Don't hate the player, hate the game. @nilyb Performance is incredible; I took the audio; I listen to it ALL day in the car haha! I was lucky enough to see it live; 3rd JM show and he still gets better!
as a drummer myself I can tell you you're wrong...feel isn't in the hands of the engineer, it's in the hands of the musician. this guy doesn't have steve's pocket, it just sounds like a guy going through an "easy" drum part. and people have complained...look at the comments. we're all huge fans of john's past bands. the fact that you haven't noticed the handful of comments about steve in the past month is unbelievable.
I'll say this. Aaron Sterling doesn't have the same 2 and 4 emphasis as Steve Jordan, but it doesn't necessarily make him better or worse. The fact remains that for this tour John wanted a different band to change the feel of his latest record. Different set of musicians means that songs from Continuum or any other album won't sound the same as they did with the bands used in those days. This is simply a new interpretation, far less boring than hearing the same version 5 years in a row.
Those light coloured amps aren't his. Those are Urban's. Mayer had his Steel String Singer and some Marshall amp. The tone was noticeably dirtier than when the Two Rock Sig. is in play.
Yeah I think I'll agree with you the "Where the light is" version is definitely better.. More groove and feel.... Mayer is definitely better with all that spacey feel...
Keith Carlock and Aaron Sterling both seem to have trouble with Steve's groove. J.J Johnson comes closest to him in my opinion. But really no one compares really.
and there you have it, the drumer makes the diffrence in this, Aaron Sterling is a great drumer no dought but steve just grooves like no one else. The version with Steve is in my opinion "better".
@TheApartmentSessions At least @Chaferbud does work to find his JM vids, you just wait for people to throw things up than suckle off that. Go ahead and get mad at me and moderate me, or flag me, or thumb me down, or report me or whatever you want. I'm just pointing out a fact that I find kind of funny. Idk what you get out of hosting a channel like this; like it might make you happy but it's just weird that you post these videos and act like they're yours and that you were there. Get Real.
He is but this isn't his style. His playing is a bit stiff for me in this song. This song in general is loose and colorful. Go listen to the "Where the light is" version and you'll definitely see what I mean.
This is my favorite John Mayer song, I think it's totally underrated!
I feel like John never completely puts away a song he is always adding new little bit I freaking love it
Holy Shit that outro!! John is an amazing musician.....among the great blues players of the 21st century
This was one of the best performances of Vultures ever!
The outro!
Amazing....
for me that's the best performance of 'vultures' !
Love the tempo. That groove is killer.
Love this song!! Really love the version he did with Palledino and Steve Jordan!!!!!!
Aaron Sterling is an amazing drummer... love his groove.
The groove and feel is incredible
I'm so relieved. I was so worried that with his complete 360 he would change his music. I'm so relieved that he didn't lose his music.
I love the beginning of this song with the bass
.
@waitin4winter @waitin4winter
I was at the show! Literally thought of both of those guys! Haha I was crackin' up. Too bad Charlie Wilson wasn't there but he was fantastic.
am addicted to this performance
getting better and better
i cant wait for new album,i wat blues there!
how good was continuum. all the songs have evolved amazingly over the years
how the shit does this video only have 14k views!?!?! such a sick spin he put on this classic JM tune!!!
this makes me so happy :")
damn, that bridge was out of this world
Pino wasn't actually that often in John's main band. He was often seen in the trio. Johns main bassist was for the most part David Labruyere.
If the day comes when Fender decides to give ME a rosewood strat as a gift, I will... I don't fucking know, I'll just be indescribably happy and grin like an idiot for the rest of my life.
so apparently john mayer has perfected cloning?
@hendrixgeek those are actually keith urban's amps in the shot...john still has his usual rig it's just not shown in the video.
anyone else think it's weird to see him with his new cowboy look playing old songs haha just kinda funny. so stoked for the new album
Aaron Sterling - he simply kicks ass!
2:48 chills!
That intro is fucking incredible.
that's the direction he's taking now for a while, you need to respect the artist and let them grow, not put them in the bubble. I'm sure he'll always play the old stuff at shows to keep old fans happy while getting new ones.
love the wah wah pedal solo!
@hendrixgeek I think that those amps belong to Keith. John was using a Marshall and a Steel String Singer
If the guy is playing for John Mayer, that means he is better than 99% of drummers in the entire world. Just because he doesn't have black man rhythm doesn't mean he's bad.
really cool version, he is changing his gear again :O and a new drummer?!
@hendrixgeek haha don't worry that's what I thought for the longest time too until I watched some of the the other Tiger Jam vids! ha..
@feffany The song isn't underrated, but this version is!
@winslowwong100 it's there...that's keith urban's rig you see behind him.
wow i thought i heard every vultures version possible
i loved it
kinda gave some mj vibes...and not just cuz of the hat :p
Love the drums. Who's that drummer? What happened to Keith Carlock?
BRING BACK JOHN MAYER!
Is that Kenny Rogers on the keys ? :O !
blues
john totally mirin david ryan harris' sweet harmonizing vocals at 4:09
@magnusforguitar All rosewood strat :)
Anyone knows how to get that tone?? I know that a big part of that tone is his hand but i wanna know which pedals does he use.. I fuckin love it!!
Carlos Alonso doesn't use pedals for this song. Just 2nd position pickup and a two rock.
I've been able to get something approximate with strat in 2nd pickup position and a fender frontman amp
His hat reminds me of the one Anthony Hopkins wore in Hannibal haha
That guy on keys = spitting image of Michael McDonald.
when the white light hits him when he starts vultures I got the shivers. So much like SRV
Since when did Paul join this John as a bassist?
wait2.. did he use the two rock amp? or he did use the ac30 and fender bassman? :S

Why is Kenny Rogers playing the keyboards at 5:15
oh and the bassist did too. paladino and jordan all day!
anybody else think he looks like Stevie Ray Vaughn in this video?
I'll say this. Aaron Sterling doesn't have the same 2 and 4 emphasis as Steve Jordan, but it doesn't necessarily make him better or worse. The fact remains that for this tour John wanted a different band to change the feel of his latest record. Different set of musicians means that songs from Continuum or any other album won't sound the same as they did with the bands used in those days. How is John managing to play the drums at the same time?
Full rosewood strat :)
@craigy72 i was thinking George Lucas
is that a Walnut Strat?
Keith Carlock and Aaron Sterling both seem to have trouble with Steve's groove. J.J Johnson comes closest to him in my opinion. But really no one compares really.
Mike Boelens JJ Johnson is the only drummer who perfectly executed Steve’s drumming in John’s songs
is he the new drummer? after keith.c
too bad he just said he's resting indefinitely. just ruined my summer :(
best performance of this song i've ever seen (with his other band, of course) - /watch?v=pQACqDyVo9w
no two rock amp?
BRING BACK DeLa!
STEVE AND PINO. NOW.
if he wanted to sound like the trio he wouldve had steve and pino. hes obviously going a different direction...just look at him.
what a fuckin intro!!!!!
weird seeing a fender, vox and Marshall amp behind john, where's the two rocks? the dumble I see.. love the improv on the solo..
+m00nchildblues they are keith urban's amps... johns are not in shot
and there you have it, the drumer makes the diffrence in this, Aaron Sterling is a great drumer no dought but steve just grooves like no one else. The version with Steve is in my opinion "better".
@packmayer i think a little more bob dylan
@winslowwong100 dumble steel stringer, waay better!
Why? Aaron Sterling is a great drummer!
5:25.. unsyncopated bobble heads.
Who's this drummer?
what happened to the band? WHY? :(
@feffany I think it's not underrated.
:)
SRV :)
if you put it in a genre, what kind a hat is that?
sure if you like to take personality out of music.
@TheApartmentSessions At least @Chaferbud does work to find his JM vids, you just wait for people to throw things up than suckle off that. the drummer kinda ruined the begging. He should have waited back a little.
Not a good version. Like the where the light is version.
He is but this isn't his style. His playing is a bit stiff for me in this song. This song in general is loose and colorful. Go listen to the "Where the light is" version and you'll definitely see what I mean.
the drummer runs too much the groove... oohhh :/
somehow, the drummer butchered steve's drum part. no feel. he doesn't have steve's mindset at all...
@packmayer Absolutely not lol This so not his style.
this song isn't the style of this drummer.
