THANK YOU FOR THIS! My great grandpa was born in 1880. He used to play the mandolin. I remember him and my great grandma singing this to each other. Now I'm an old man now and I sing it to my sweet heart too. TRUE LOVE NEVER DIES.
😢😫😩😢Listening to this as my husband of 55 years is taking an afternoon nap. He was barely 18 and I was 16 and remembering how he shuffled to the bathroom this morning made this song REALLY SAD!
@@cocacolafiesta many of the younger generations will never get to experience the commitment and real lasting loving friendships that the older generation lived with their partners. Things were a lot simpler I suppose. Peace and blessings 🙏
Always the higher chord of human emotions that win millions of hearts for 2 centuries! Thanks for posting. This song I learnt it from grade school but always come to mind whenever I felt the same emotion, towards friends and families.
I first listened to this tune in some Western movies. I don't remember which movie. They used the tune in several movies. And, Lorena, too. I remember that one. It's in The Searchers (1956). Love the old Western movies and songs.
All that experience - and what for ? One war after another. Each generation forced into a life of crime and degeneration . . . Grandma's favourite tune. She loved MRS MILLS honky tonky version. Orchestrated by GEOFF LOVE.
@@nbenefiel Thank you! I imagine it was also an expensive experience too. People saw this as a "serious", very different from how we snap selfies today!
In the old days too ready a smile was considered the deceit of con men or a sign of mental impairment. People wanted to be seen as having firm, reliable character and a stern expression their pictures.

I’m 72 and have been married for 45 years. I still think of my husband as the kid I fell for when I was 21 and he was 24.

Why didn't people smile in old photographs?
because they had to stay absolutely still for quite a long time. That is why many of the very early photos were of dead people.
