When I was 11, I joined the adult choir. I had longed to follow my father's footsteps and take over the honor of singing the exsultet. Now I have a family of my own and a new parish that has never known a cantor but volunteer members that are unsure of the music even in ordinary season. I sang forte during mass when nobody knew the songs chosen. Father heard, and approached me, asking me to sing the exsultet. I found it hilarious and told my Dad immediately and to my surprise he told me he no longer has to sing it in my old parish. My goal is achieved tonight
I don't know what I would have been ,if I'm not a Catholic.may God bless his church..and bless the composer of this holy, healing and melodious song..I find new life in exultet
Me too I am singing this proclamation for first time, 70 percent I could sing still practising now following this link, pray for me that I could proclaim well
My favourite of all Catholic Prayers. "Oh happy faults, ..necessary sin of Adam.." This Church is so deep. Unfortunately, because of this pandemic, we won't get to listen live to this great prayer of the Church.
When I am sad, when I feel like giving up, when I am helpless I listen to EXSULTET.. it’s not just a paschal night prayer, I need His peaceful light when am low! May God bless and protect His holy church
I came home to the one true faith in 1997. I have been involved as a facilitator and Coordinator in RCIA for over 20 years. I have heard the Exsultet many times. This version and this vocalist is transcendent. I must have listened 5 or 6 times. and I know I'm not done yet. Perfect for Easter.
How beautifully sung! The revised music to the Exsultet can be a challenge, but here it was sung simply, yet elegantly with great ease. The ancient lyrics sung here make it one of my most cherished hymns to hear & now to sing! Thank you!
Only God alone knows what this means to me. It gives me every reason to be proud of my faith. My soul is always at peace listening to this prayer. May God almighty continue to bless you all according to His richness in Glory.
This part of the Easter Mass is one of my favorites, I am sad because this year because of the pandemic, we will not hear it "live" in the Church, in my case only because of the ICT's.
I'm so happy to have found this beautiful rendition of the Exultet while practising for tomorrow night's Easter Vigil - thank you very much! We have missed the last few years of church music, so this will be a very special celebration ....and my voice is rusty!🙏
In case you recorded your rendition kindly post and alert here . Hope you had a Good Easter vigil like we did in St Austin Parish Msongari, Nairobi Kenya.
We just got back from the Vigil. This is one of my absolute favorite prayers; it gives me chills every time. This recording is exceptional. And the Latin is no less gorgeous.
Thank you. I am singing this for the first time this Saturday night by request of the pastor and knowing what part can be left out as a lay music minister is helpful. I always thought it was a Deacon who was the only one allowed. Glad to know that I am not going against the Church by intoning this prayer.
Whenever I feel downhearted and feel worthless, this beautiful song revives my soul and reminds me that I’m a child of God and a disciple of Christ. But I’m also a Knight of Columbus.
Pramod Fernandes don't fret just take a deep breath and ask the holy spirit own your breath as you voice fellowship for the greater glory of God and yours will be a revival gift to keep you till forever
This is a great service to those of us who, cleric and lay, are charged with singing the Exulted. Having butchered it so often it is a great help to hear it sung both well and prayerfully. I have listened to various renditions and this is by far the best. Well done!
I sang the Exsultet for tonight's Easter Vigil Mass in my parish. Throughout the month leading up to tonight, I used this video to practice. I would see your comment and acknowledge the verse's beauty, but I didn't fully understand the power and depth until I sang in front of everyone. The Holy Spirit definitely moved me with this... I wanted to cry as I felt the full impact. Everyone heard my shaky voice and I had to pause and take a few deep breaths before continuing the rest. Some people thought I just needed water but others also approached me after Mass saying they too were moved by that part. Happy Easter 💕
I am so grateful to have the Exultet made available ! I am singing thus beautiful piece this year and have not done so for many years. thank you so much
It is beautiful - Fr. Mitchell has done it both times I have been at Holy Family's Easter Vigil - I'm not going to even complain about the mix of English and Spanish. It was totally beautiful. I don't know if I'm ready to sing the Gloria and some of the Psalms in Spanish or read the Scriptures from Spanish or Latin. I totally love Easter. Like I said, it can go every day as far as I'm concerned.
Thank you for posting this to help practice! I am so happy to be able to sing this again this year, since we missed the vigil last year with the pandemic. Happy Easter 2021!
This brings out the beauty of the richer translation. It was wonderful to hear this proclaimed last Saturday night and now your posting does a great service by showing the text scroll as it is sung. Thanks.
This is theology par excellence! It couldn't get better. "O charity beyond all telling , to ransom a slave you gave your Son..... O truly necessary sin of Adam....O happy fault that begot us such a redeeemer.... The resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ is the greatest event in the history of the mankind.7We are not to see anything greater than this until His second coming.
Thank you for uploading this new "Exultet". I shall need it when I have to practise for the next Easter Vigil Mass. I used to sing it in Latin, then English, and now this. All of 50 years I've sung it; but never too old to learn. Thank you once again. Mervyn691 aged 79
The Easter Vigil mass is my personal favorite. I'm a Catholic. And this video brings me hope for the Easter season. I remember on Holy Thursday 2010 I got to help out in the mass. And Easter Vigil 2010, I made my confirmation. My confirmation name is Michael.
FR. Tim has the absolute best version of this great ancient hymn. I am singing the Anglican version again this year but don't have near his phrasing and chanting quality.
I should have sung this Exultet last 2020 during the Easter Vigil unfortunate there is no eucharistic Celebration due to the pandemic, hope I will be selected this year to proclaim the Exultet
Thank you so much for the clear scrolling music with this excellent recording. I am finding it absolutely invaluable in my practice for this years Vigil mass.
I love to sing this at the Easter vigil. I have sung it for the last 3 years. And I am singing it again this coming Saturday. And this video is what I use to practice!
In these troubled times this will bring comfort too all who lost loved ones through covid 19 !! They will all rise in glory too see the face of the risen lord !!!!!
I have to say…I love the chant, but you guys need to check out Tony Alonso’s setting of this prayer. “To ransom a slave” and “O Happy Fault” section is just so beautifully done in that setting.
Go to the ten minute mark and you will see the lyrics say "the morning star who never sets: Christ is your son" wait hold on Jesus is called the Morning star in Rev 2:28. Now the Latin word for Morning star here is Lucifer, that means this 'hymn' is basically saying Jesus is the son of Lucifer. How perverted.
Garaidh Iain Scott You misunderstand the Latin. The Exsultet is a hymn to Christ and does not invoke the name of the Adversary. Lucifer literally means light bearer as well as Morning Star, which Christ Himself says who He is: Revelation 22:16 "I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star." Here is the translation: May the Morning Star which never sets find this flame still burning: Christ, that Morning Star, who came back from the dead, and shed his peaceful light on all mankind, your Son, who lives and reigns for ever and ever. The Morning Star is in reference to the Lord as the hymn is given at Easter to celebrate His victory over death. When it says "your Son" it is referring to God the Father. There is no mention of Satan.
When I was 11, I joined the adult choir. I had longed to follow my father's footsteps and take over the honor of singing the exsultet. Now I have a family of my own and a new parish that has never known a cantor but volunteer members that are unsure of the music even in ordinary season. congratulations brother. may we all sing in heaven too.
Each sentence so deep in meaning. To ransom a slave, you gave away your son. Who else can do that? Greatest Sacrifice.
I don't know what I would have been ,if I'm not a Catholic.may God bless his church..and bless the composer of this holy, healing and melodious song..I find new life in exultet
I sang this last night and almost started crying when I sang the words "to ransom a slave, you gave away your son."
It happened to me tonight as well. I had to pause and take a few breaths before continuing.
Happy Easter 💕
I agree, it gets difficult to sing when you fully understand the meaning of the words
That's my happiest moment with deep reflection during holy week..it touches me to the bone marrow
So evangelically amazing, reflecting on this, this Easter vigil day
Iam practicing to chant tomorrow in the absence of priest. I find life in this Exultet, no matter how difficult it is
Well done ❤

I'm crying while listening to this beautiful catholic masterpiece. Happy Easter everyone.
Wow the cantor sang it so beautifully. It's a powerful proclamation of the Catholic faith . May the light of Christ shine upon us this Easter.
There is so much glorious language and imagery in the Exultet. It's one of my annual highlights of the Triduum.
Exultet remains comforting through the ages. Tears in my eyes eachtime I listen.

It's so splendid a master piece to listen to but one must listen with ardent zeal so much so that he/she is not taken up by the grief.
